SGOTM 08 - Geezers

I'm fine with you carrying on although I'll leave it to Mark to confirm this. You did the bulk of the play testing and we put you in as you're the expert on the permutations. I agree that we should bulb Maths and head for Wheel after CoL.

I may be wrong but I think CoL will be founded in Hari as I believe the algorithm selects smaller cities in preference to larger ones.

BTW, can you confirm the forest chop-value thing post-Maths?

I don't remember explicitly checking it but I'm sure this would have been picked up ages ago if Maths didn't increase the chop value.

I'll test it :)

Edited to add: I mean I'll test the chopping thing. Cross-post with Sam_Yeagar so it looks a bit confusing. I'm sure you're right and Confucianism, if we get there first, will be founded in Hari.

OK, so far:

For bulbing: Misotu, Sam_Yeager, erikthecelt
Neutral: The-Hawk
Against: None so far

For me carrying on a little: Me, erikthecelt, The-Hawk, Sam_Yeager
Against: None so far

Work boat exploring marble: The-Hawk, Misotu, erikthecelt
Work boat going north: None so far
Work boat going south: None so far

Vote early, vote often :)

Silence is consent ;)

Given the endorsement you have already received and everyone's desire to celebrate the successful sling, you probably don't have to wait for Mark - he's generally a very agreeable person.

:) I'm desperate to know whether we're going to make it ... the tension is killing me :faint:

IIRC you were keen to explore marble with the work boat so I'll put you down for that unless you object.

I tested the forest thing quickly - a 30-hammer chop consistently becomes 44 hammers  after maths. Not quite the 50% but close. So the answer is not to cut it too fine on the hammers ...

I'm very tempted, but I don't really like to do it - maybe if a couple of the others check in and are happy with the plan? It's the bulbing thing really - it'd be nice to know that everyone is ok with it. Mark might be in a severe mood for all I know ...
:spank: :gripe:

Still ...

So tempting ...

:mischief:

No. I'll wait a bit more :D

Nor mine ... maybe a couple of the others will check in and give us the go-ahead. We could sort of go for a democratic consensus then ... :)

HB is asleep, Thrallia hasn't been heard from in a while, so that leaves Aged-One - so even if he votes against, it's 3 to 1 for you to play on :mischief:

I hope you're a big guy.

I may need a human shield :mischief:

OK. You talked me into it. Watch this space.

Just logged in too late to give a thumbs up. I'm sure mark won't object. Here hoping all goes according to plan. :please:

Hi. Just checking back in after the weekend to find !!!! Everything.
Oh. You want a vote from me (latecomer as always).
(And you want someone to find markh... hmm can't help with that one)

Yes for bulbing el mathematico
Yes for Misotu satisfying all our curiosities with the continuation of the slingshot saga! :D

"Fear, and panic in the air
I want to be free
From desolation and despair"

:twitch: That was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most nerve-wracking 8 turns of any game I've ever played in my life :faint:

Anyway, I have good news and I have not so good news. Here goes:

64: We found Confucianism in Hari. I send missionary off to Yas, for want of any better ideas. A barb warrior appears out of the FoW a couple of squares away from our warrior fortified at the choke point. Oh great. He can reach Hari in 6 turns, get lucky on a one-on-one with our MP and then I get :splat: from experienced mongerer team-mates. Panic. Switch from barracks to warrior in Hari, for want of more inspiration.
66: Barb warrior disappears back into FoW. :hmm: He is toying with me. I am not fooled. We discover wheel. Hoorah! No wait, boo! I don't know what we're supposed to research next. Horror. Stare mindlessly at list of options. Then am mindful of the new lands discovered to the south. Pick sailing.
67: Maths bulbed. 2 forests chopped by eager serfs poised ready. Capital scientists go to hammer tiles - max hammers now
68: The Oracle builds. My hand trembling, I triple-quadruple check that the mouse is positioned correctly over Civil Service. I select it et ... voila!

In all honesty, I maybe made a couple of bad choices with the warrior and sailing. Sorry if there were better choices. Hari is still building a warrior although that barb has never reappeared. But I guess we can use our new recruit for a garrison on our marble island city. Which we will build ,,,

Key Points:

  • I have not changed civics to bureaucracy. We can choose TWO civic options for 1 turn of anarchy so that means bureaucracy/slavery or bureaucracy/caste system. Either way, whoever is next needs to get that done first thing. Discuss :)
  • There is fish off the south coast of marble island (loud cheers off)
  • There is a larger island further to the south - no good resources as far as I could see, but it does have a hut :)
  • The missionary is still at Yas - didn't know whether we'd want to use him or connect the 2 cities and let religious nature do its work
  • Shaka now has at least 2 cities - and when his borders expand he will have horse (loud boos off)
  • Barracks in Yas will build in 2 (and that's *before* we run bureaucracy)
  • Great scientist in Hari will emerge in 19 (yeah, I know, not so good. But we can live with it :) )
  • Hari's borders have expanded, but the 2 cities are still not trading - however, we have sailing in 2 turns and then they will trade
  • One of the workers has started connecting up the copper/building a road towards Hari - the other is available to help next turn
  • Shaka insists that he will *never* make peace with us. We have to kill him. I will leave that to you guys :p

I'll upload the turn shortly. What a blast :D

PS: NO Aged-One, this is *not* what Victory feels like. This is what the first step on the very very long ladder towards Victory feels like :mischief:

Hooray !!!! :woohoo: Great work. :goodjob:

I am currently 8 hours behind the UK folks. You do not need to wait on roster things btw. I would never object if somebody wants to play on for a few turns to get an objective done. ;)

Sorry, I had no much time to get into the game again. Some vacation things are keeping me busy, but I hope to have some more time for civ in the next few days.

What next ? Pyramids ?

Wow.

I didn't think I was away for more than a day and nothing much happened last time I looked yesterday, but I check back in this morning and everything has happened.

You shouldn't have played on without getting my vote!

Only kidding ;) - you played a blinder! I can safely say that Misotu's approach to the game has added immeasurably to the balance of the Geezer's team play. Well done, Misotu

What is the next objective now? Surely it must be Operation Zulu-icide?
