SGOTM 09 - Smurkz

To say the truth, I'm very reticent to start making SS parts without Labs. It is a HUGE waste of hammers. that is my main point against going Rocketry fast.

And there is another issue: we can't trade for MC now and only heaven knows when another AI will think on teching it with the techs they have open.

Wha? :crazyeye: It's probably foolhardy for me to comment on the tech path without opening the save and seeing how the non-standard tech start has messed with things, but what are the "costs" of getting Astro?
The cost of getting Astro is the beaker cost of Compass + Optics + Astro. Since we already have SciMeth and Physics to start with, Astro is a dead end for us. Sure it comes with Observatories that are needed for Labs, I keep forgetting that. But I'm still not convinced we wouldn't be better off waiting for it to appear on the tech trade scene. I honestly doubt we'll get much help from the AIs with research of later techs, so giving Astro around to increase their research rate isn't going to do much. We'd get more help simply by trading for Astro in the first place.

And BL, thanks for doing that analysis. I don't really agree that Rocketry is an immediate priority, I would much rather use Lib for Genetics due to the higher cost. But I think the case for not Lib'ing for Bio is well made, and pretty much as I had expected.

We should ensure that all AI have Paper fairly soon, so they can research PP for us. It's not that we need the tech itself (we don't), but it blocks our bulbing path.

Very nice analysis, BL! And good discussion all around. OK, I buy that the 3000 beakers we'd need to invest to get Astro aren't worth it (although we must get observatories and labs at some point). In that case, how about if we get MC right now (450 piddling little beakers) and start on forges and the Colossus. BLville might be a good place for the latter, since it could use the culture (to hold its western territory against Hammy and expand onto that forest by the lake that we need to farm).

The delay in getting Bio if we research manually grieves me. Getting Genetics (7000) instead would indeed be great, but we need Medicine (4500) first, and that requires getting Compass (400) and Optics (600). Can we really be confident the AI won't beat us to Lib'ism? If we get scared, though, we could grab Medicine, which isn't bad in itself.

We just burned 1 Great Artist to start a GA, but remember that we have another! We're going to get another GP in 9 turns. As long as it isn't another Artist we could start another GA, which would shave quite a few turns off getting Bio, and thus let us reap all the rewards that come with that. We need an awful lot of beakers to set up to get Genetics from Lib'ism, and getting those 12 extra scientists earlier (and faster city development allowed by Bio) would help a lot.

[Edit: Nobody commented on revolting to slavery for the GA. I haven't checked that we'll have the pop in Greenland, Panama, and BLville to make it worthwhile, but it might speed up the lib/uni construction in Greenland a lot (remember that we have the 100% production bonus for those), which would mean a faster Oxford and more desperately needed beakers.]

So we're missing out on 12 scientists for 17 turns if we do not take Bio with Liberalism. That translates to 9 beakers per scientist * 12 specialists * 17 turns = 1836 total beakers lost and 1088 GPP points.

Zaki has a library and uni, so that's an extra 918 beakers (2754 total) we're missing. And if we still get 3 GPP/turn with specialists in a quick game (?), that's 12sci*17turn*3GPP/turn*3 where the last 3 is from being Philo and running Pacifism, which gives 1836 lost GPPs, not 1088.

That makes Bio look better. I'm just sayin'.

A couple of small points:

We have medicine already; we don't need to research anything in order to Lib genetics; we could do it now.

BL's point about the Hindu missionary is very interesting and shouldn't get lost in the shuffle. We're planning a GA switch to OR anyway to spread confucianism and it's not like we'd have a shrine, so the only lost cost in doing Hindu missionaries instead is the matter of where Hinduism winds up versus where confucianism is, and the temporary loss of state religion benefits whereever Hinduism isn't. Whether it's worth it may have a lot to do with where the missionary goes, so can we agree that rolo will stop once it finds its home so we can do a little thinking?

What is generally the limiting factor in a space race like this? Hammers, or beakers? And how does our current/planned city setup impact that analysis? I'm not experienced enough to tell. Because if, for example, we're going to be spending so long building spaceship parts that the research time to genetics becomes irrelevant -- well, then it's irrelevant if we get it now or later, right?

I have to say I don't see the benefit of rocketry, either. Astronomy I do (need those labs up *before* the spaceship push kicks in); what realistically are our odds of trading for it?

As for trade routes, though -- what about an airport? That allows overseas trade even without astronomy, doesn't it? If we don't know, can we check? I don't know if we'd need an airport at the other end, though -- do settlers airlift?

We have medicine already; we don't need to research anything in order to Lib genetics; we could do it now.

Dagnabbit! How'd I miss that? Well, uh, yes, that would make Genetics even more attractive. It still might be worth running another Golden Age to get Bio quicker, though. If we're going to use Lib for Genetics, though, is there any reason not to just grab it now and relax? Will it boost our power rating to dissuade trouble-makers?

Agreed on possible switching to Hinduism.

What is generally the limiting factor in a space race like this? Hammers, or beakers? And how does our current/planned city setup impact that analysis?

I don't have a lot space race experience either, but both beakers and hammers are vital; mostly beakers early and then hammers later, I think. The nice thing with Genetics is we must have it eventually and getting it with Lib'ism frees up a lot of beakers for other things. Plus, we could start building one of the big parts (stasis chamber?) as soon as we get Apollo. But your point about our city setup affecting whether or not that's worthwhile is well taken. I don't know for sure, but I think that getting an early start will save us time since we're not going to have an overabundance of high production cities.

Even if we can't trade for Astro by the time we need it we certainly ought to be able to trade for one or both of its prereqs. I'd probably err on the side of trying to get it early to boost our beaker production, but it'll probably come down to an unclear judgement call if the AIs turn out to be slackers.

Yeah, I thought about an airport, which also lets us get units to hot spots in case the barbs get ugly down south, for instance. And no, you don't need a receiving airport on the other end. Hadn't thought about shipping settlers, etc. overseas to establish new cities [edit: or conquer barbs]--very clever. :) I think we'd only want to do it if there's a primo production site somewhere, though. The marginal beaker benefit will be minor. Zaki could crank out an airport pretty quickly and get the most trade route benefit (with the 50% gold Bureau bonus). Probably not worth it anywhere else, though. Yes, I believe all land units airlift--we used it on a Prophet in SGOTM8.

I normally find that the big limiting factor in space races is the production. Like a poster that I can't remember the name said, space races are a tech race for most of the game followed by production race in the end ( and in BtS, a third phase where you are praying to everything to go Ok :p )

About the Astro issue: we will surely need those labs up, so we need Astro :p OTOH we don't have huge prod sites for now, so the labs would take forever to build without forges and powered factories in place .... :/ I think the main benefit of having astro would be the management of Atlantis and the overseas trade routes, both of them not minor issues.

I would also be more than happy to lib bio. Ok, it is not flashy, but IMHO having nat park and 4 F grass farms makes up for the diference before the game ending.

Ah yes, they joy of number crunching half-asleep. I did forget to add in Zaki's library and university modifiers and as for the great people points, I'm not really sure how I got that number since I did that part last. I could have sworn I had taken Pac and Philo into account, but it would seem I didn't (EDIT: ah yes, found how I made the error. Definitely a sleepiness error  ). The correct GP generation table now:

Taking Bio w/ Liberalism:

GP 1: 119
GP 2: 125
GP 3: 129
GP 4: 134
GP 5: 139
GP 6: 145
GP 7: 152

No Bio / Liberalism

GP 1: 119
GP 2: 132
GP 3: 142
GP 4: 148
GP 5: 154
GP 6: 161
GP 7: 169

So we fall behind two GP then as opposed to one. Beaker-wise, Genetics is still a better deal, and I'd even argue that having the free +3 health before we hit the Industrial Age is going to help us quite a bit. Opening up Factories as well as other polluting buildings for 'free' with regards to health is going to be plus. GP-wise, I think we're in agreement we want them late anyway for GA fuel SS part builds so there's no urgency to get them now.

As for slavery in the GA, well I'm not sure if we could use it well. I'll give you that Caste is useless to us right now, but the cities that need the whip are at pop 1 or 2. I suppose it wouldn't do us much harm to flip into it, but I'm not convinced we get anything great out of it at this point.

I agree trading for Astro is a better deal than teching it ourselves. It's a long ways off, and if we don't go the rocketry route with Lib than Labs are a long ways off too. In fact as far as Lib goes, I say we hold off in it for as long as possible and see how expensive a tech we can get with it. Genetics will always be there as a 'fall-back' if the AI get close to Lib themselves. I don't recall if any of the civs we face have Free Religion as their favorite civic, but if not then we have even more time to delay.

It's hard to balance all the tradeoffs, but let me take a shot and argue for Lib'ing Bio again. We gain 2754 beakers plus the value of 2 GPs plus a 17-turn headstart on getting extra farm food. What are the 2 GPs worth? If all the GPs we got in BL's list (above) were settled, and we assume we have Oxford (giving a beaker mod of 2.5 in Zaki) then we get an additional 1845 beakers. Alternatively, what do 2 Great Scientists yield if bulbed? Maybe something like 3000 beakers? Surely it's at least 2000. So that puts us at least 4700 beakers ahead. On the downside, Bio costs 3600 vs 7000 beakers for Genetics, but we're still at least 1300 beakers ahead.

Now what's the value of getting that extra food sooner? Bonanza and Ouzo will especially benefit, but I'm not sure how to quantify it. As a rough guess, say they each get 2 extra citizens working for 17 turns, each yielding something like 2 commerce and 2 hammers per turn, or 136 commerce and 136 hammers. My gut says the net benefits of being able to build multiplier buildings earlier will significantly magnify those benefits.

Panama needs lots of food to be a GP farm. Say we get an extra food for 17 extra turns, and then probably another extra food from a second tile for 8 turns--that's 25 food, enough to give it probably 2 extra pop relative to where it would be if we delayed Bio. (I'm waving my hands a bit here, so please correct me if I'm wrong.) On the margin that gives us something like 2 extra specialists for 17 turns, or 204 GPPs (even without Nat'l Epic) and roughly 500 extra beakers. The extra GPPs may have no value, or they might give us one extra GP (for at least 1000 beakers).

With these new numbers, I'm switching sides. The whole argument in favor of Genetics (or anything else really) was the higher beaker gains we would make. But as Xcal shows, with the new numbers we actually gain more beakers by using Lib for Bio, so I see no reason not to do that.

I still don't want MC or Astro though. Lib for Bio, then go for Electricity.

I think we're agreed on the tech path.

Regarding the temporary switch to OrgRel and perhaps Slavery: As BL says, "the cities that need the whip are at pop 1 or 2," but I think Greenland may be more promising. If we can finish the library soon then I suspect we'll have enough pop to whip out the university with slavery during the GA, which would set us up to build Oxford right away (assuming Ouzo also finishes in time). Even if Zaki can't get to Oxford until it finishes the Nat'l Park, I think it would still be worthwhile to whip the Greenland uni because of the +100% Philosophical leader bonus. And there isn't any downside to dropping Caste for awhile that I can see. Ah, but there is the chance of a slave revolt. Worth it or not? If we can finish the library and university with regular builds before Zaki finishes the Nat'l Park then probably not.

And remember that we want to pause after Hammy's missionary lands somewhere.

[Edit: So what's up with the Power graphs on the Progress page, with so many teams showing a big jump around now? I wouldn't expect Bio/National Park/Oxford to do that, but what do I know? Maybe they're all going for Rifling??]

Awsome discussion here.

I think we are settling for Lib->Bio, and I looks good. I really doubt AIs will give us Astro though, but this will be for later :-p

The main concern with slavery are really revolts. Especially during a GA, this would be really bad. Unless the net gain is huge, I'd stick to caste. But of course, we can also live on the edge :-)

rolo, go go go !

Random events are off so there's no risk for revolts.

I intend to play some turns in a few hours ( when the temperature is below 30ºC ) .... so something like:

- Chem->Lib->Bio for starters in tech terms
- Go to slavery ( some other civic change? ) and whip something :D
- kill barbs and watch out for babylonian missionaries

Are we all agreed on this?

Yea, roll with that plan rolo :D

Revolt to OrgRel so we get the 25% building bonus and can build missionaries (Conf and/or Hammy's if we switch to that).

Push for 6 universities (I think only Ouzo and Greenland are left?) so we can build Oxford. Although keep in mind that we need to finish Notre Dame and Nat'l Park first.

When deciding when to use slavery, keep in mind that we get +100% on lib's and uni's (anything else?).

Use the workers efficiently. We want that last forest preserve in time for Nat'l Park. Start irrigating toward Bonanza and Ouzo when you think best, balancing against the needs of BLville and Panama. You'll have to chop the forest W of Athens--maybe there's a particularly good time for that?

Sell our maps and trade techs. Use the gold to speed up teching.

Zaki will probably be too busy, but consider building an airport to gain trade and airlift units overseas (to settle or capture new cities if there are really good production spots).

[Edit: And of course, revolt back to Pac/Caste before the GA ends!]

Ok, I played until the end of chemistry and lib start/end today ( I really have to log in in a pitboss now.... ). we still have 4 turns of GA to play with.

We traded compass and optics with wang , revolted to slavery/org Rel, killed some barbies and we'll be able to start both Oxford and nat park next turn. Surprisingly HG is still undone, so we decided to give it a dent ( could had noticed that earlier :hammer2: )

no prob, i'm still looking at the city screens
still 28ºC in the shadow, but it is bearable

Ricardo diz (21:19):
Well, I was seeing the thread and definitely seems that the other teams had all gone to rifling ( probably for paratroopers )
Niklas Broberg diz (21:19):
from power graphs?
Ricardo diz (21:20):
yes
it is not such a bad idea after all
so, can we start this, mr niklas ?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:20):
why are you waiting for me?
Ricardo diz (21:21):
Niklas Broberg diz (21:10):
hello, I'll be with you in a short while

Niklas Broberg diz (21:21):
that doesn't mean you can't start playing, does it?
Ricardo diz (21:21):
I just wanted to ask some 2 or 3 things before pressing the enter
Ricardo diz (21:22):
we have 9 turns of GA now... do we revolt to slavery and OrgRel now?
Renata diz (21:22):
yes, right?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:23):
with 9 turns left it means we only get two more revolts, so I believe we must
Ricardo diz (21:23):
2)we have chemistry in 6 @ 60% +4gpt.... obviously we want to bank one or 2 more turns and then run 100%
-95 @ 100
Ricardo diz (21:24):
+152 @ 0
265 in bank
chem in 4 at 100
Ricardo diz (21:25):
ok, one turn @ 100 is enough
*@ 0
Niklas Broberg diz (21:25):
yup
Ricardo diz (21:25):
3) greenland: food or hammers?
Ricardo diz (21:26):
4 pop, grows on 2, lib on 4
as it is OFC
Niklas Broberg diz (21:26):
food for a uni whip
Ricardo diz (21:27):
uni is a 3 pop whip even with our traits, right?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:27):
134 hammers, each whip gives 20*2.25
45
Niklas Broberg diz (21:28):
so yes, a 3-pop whip
Ricardo diz (21:28):
the city is making 14 F now and there is no way it will make more than 16 with pop 5
Niklas Broberg diz (21:29):
when will ouzo finish its uni?
Ricardo diz (21:30):
4 turns, proably less with barracks overflow
Niklas Broberg diz (21:30):
ok, so we just want that greenland uni asap then
can we get lib in 3 and grow to size 6 in 3 as well?
Ricardo diz (21:31):
size 5, you mean?
Ricardo diz (21:32):
in greenland, right?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:32):
yes, greenland
I mean size 6 for a 3-pop whip
Ricardo diz (21:32):
we are still in pop 4 in greenland

Niklas Broberg diz (21:32):
I'm aware, but it has fast growth
Renata diz (21:32):
niklas! no V and no S?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:33):
"an engraved V clearly showing"
Renata diz (21:33):
oh, whre?
whoops
nm
Niklas Broberg diz (21:33):

Renata diz (21:33):
read too fast at th e end haha
Ricardo diz (21:33):
*stares at the screen, clearly not understanding what those two are talking about*
Niklas Broberg diz (21:34):
that's ok rolo, just do your thing
Renata diz (21:35):
lol
Ricardo diz (21:35):
ok, we can't get lib and pop growth both in 3, except if we use some MM that I'm snot in the mood of finding out in this temperature
Niklas Broberg diz (21:36):
ok, just read me the numbers then
we're pop 4 now, working sheep+fish+ what?
Ricardo diz (21:36):
let me send you a screenie
it is faster
Niklas Broberg diz (21:36):
sure
Ricardo diz (21:37):
http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x257/r_rolo1/SGOTM 9/?action=view&current=Civ4ScreenShot0581.jpg
Ricardo diz (21:38):
well, I haven't revolted yet, so no org rel bonus ( no confu either in there )
Niklas Broberg diz (21:39):
ah, no granary either
then I give up immediately
we should work a 2F 2H over the 1F 2H 2C though
Niklas Broberg diz (21:40):
what's the food in the bin and needed for growth now?
Ricardo diz (21:40):
6/18
Ricardo diz (21:41):
we need 32 F to get to pop 6
Niklas Broberg diz (21:41):
4 turns at 8F each
or +8F even
but then we won't complete the library in time
Ricardo diz (21:41):
exactly my point
Ricardo diz (21:42):
maybe pushing the pop until 5 and then hammer it out?
try a pop 2 whip of the univ
can it work?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:42):
well, we can already do a 2-pop whip
Ricardo diz (21:43):
no we can't, because i haven't revolted yet
Niklas Broberg diz (21:43):
so say we work fish plus hill forest plus ice hill forest plus plains hill, that's 2+3+3+3=11 base hammers (grr)
Niklas Broberg diz (21:44):
13 with OR then
library needs what?
Ricardo diz (21:44):
for having OR bonus ther, we need to revolt to Tao
Niklas Broberg diz (21:44):
oh, right, nvm then
11 hpt then
library costs 60, how much in bin?
Ricardo diz (21:44):
10/60
Niklas Broberg diz (21:45):
22 hpt with creative bonus
so after three turns we'd have 76/60 -> 16 into uni

JeromeB diz (21:45):

Niklas Broberg diz (21:45):
lol
Ricardo diz (21:45):

Ricardo diz (21:46):
with so much discussion, we are still making MM math
Niklas Broberg diz (21:46):
so we need another 6 hammers, or 3 base hammers rather
Ricardo diz (21:46):
the riverside hill?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:46):
already working that in this scenario
Niklas Broberg diz (21:47):
working fish plus the three 3-hammer hills
what's our worker doing btw?

JeromeB saiu da conversa.

Ricardo diz (21:47):
1W of city -Nothing
1NW -Nothing
Ricardo diz (21:48):
both ended tasks this turn, I guess
Niklas Broberg diz (21:48):
how many turns for a windmill 1NW?
Ricardo diz (21:49):
it says 5, but the worker is already moved
Niklas Broberg diz (21:49):
right, so 4 turns starting next turn
Ricardo diz (21:49):
so I assume it is 4 worker-turns
yup
Niklas Broberg diz (21:49):
so the fastest we could get it is 3, if we move the other worker there
Ricardo diz (21:49):
yes
Niklas Broberg diz (21:50):
so if we do that, we get +1 base hammer on the 4th turn
and we could work a grass forest over the fish that turn too, starving a bit
but getting to exactly 44 hammers in bin
Ricardo diz (21:51):
it will be a close call
Niklas Broberg diz (21:51):
it will require perfect MMing
Ricardo diz (21:51):
so, you are the person for the job
Niklas Broberg diz (21:52):
I just told you how to do it, didn't I?
Ricardo diz (21:52):
let me see.....
*grabbing pieces of MM scatered in above speech...*
Niklas Broberg diz (21:53):
oh, wait, it won't work

renata, if we had discussed this on the thread instead of the merits of exotic Lib techs, we wouldn't need iot now
Niklas Broberg diz (21:55):
fish + the three 3H tiles for three turns
then switch fish for the new windmill on the 4th
Niklas Broberg diz (21:56):

Ricardo diz (21:57):
no change after 4th turn, niklas?
Niklas Broberg diz (21:57):
then you whip

Niklas Broberg diz (21:57):
and work fish+sheep
Ricardo diz (21:58):
fish + sheep +.......
Niklas Broberg diz (21:58):

Ricardo diz (21:58):
no
or we are going to starve?

Niklas Broberg diz (21:59):
fish + ice hill + plains hill + grass forest hill means 8F at size 4
Ricardo diz (21:59):
ok, forget it
Niklas Broberg diz (21:59):
so you'll be stagnant for 3 turns, and then at -3F on the 4th
Ricardo diz (21:59):
you're right

Niklas Broberg diz (22:07):
we're in Bur, a preserve in the cap is worth a lot more than a preserve in sparta
Ricardo diz (22:08):
I assumed so
Ricardo diz (22:09):
and we chose 2 F or 2 H for sparta now?

Renata saiu da conversa.

Ricardo diz (22:09):
the choices are this: grassland, iced forest and iced hill
Niklas Broberg diz (22:09):
no coast open?
JeromeB diz (22:09):
sorry have another conversation in // for work...
Niklas Broberg diz (22:09):
np unkle
JeromeB diz (22:09):
back in ~ 10 min
Niklas Broberg diz (22:09):
cya
Ricardo diz (22:10):
unless we steal from phising ( IIRC the name, no
and even then it is 1 F 3C
2 , I mean
Niklas Broberg diz (22:10):
we don't have a LH in sparta?
Ricardo diz (22:10):
we have, sorry for the typo
Niklas Broberg diz (22:10):
ok, sure
Niklas Broberg diz (22:11):
so why wouldn't we steal a coast from phishing?
I really should have looked at the game...
Ricardo diz (22:11):
no particular reason

Niklas Broberg diz (22:11):
do that then
Ricardo diz (22:11):
was not seeing the lighthouse
Niklas Broberg diz (22:11):
food > hammers
Ricardo diz (22:11):
MM gives + 5 g
Ricardo diz (22:12):
gpt
Niklas Broberg diz (22:12):
nice
Ricardo diz (22:12):
ok, better push the button before everyone goes to sleep
unless Niklas wants to MM the rest of the cities too, OFC
Niklas Broberg diz (22:13):
don't have time, but gee, surely you can do it yourself?
I'm sure you're just asking me about everything on purpose
Ricardo diz (22:13):
I have a long historial of ppl complaining of my MM
Ricardo diz (22:14):
ask to the people I play SGs with
to say the truth, IMHO the rest of the cities are Okish
Ricardo diz (22:16):
sorry, had to change batteries of the wireless mouse
Ricardo diz (22:17):
ok, next turn
univ in 3 in ouzo
GP for HC and GS for Joao
Ricardo diz (22:18):
slider to 100, chem in 4
Niklas Broberg diz (22:19):
goodie
Ricardo diz (22:19):
160/1802 in the sci
doing 420 bpt
Niklas Broberg diz (22:20):
before prereq mod I suppose?
Ricardo diz (22:20):
reading from the slider numbers
Niklas Broberg diz (22:20):
right
so actually 421*1.2
505 bpt
Ricardo diz (22:20):
should be enough to lib @ 0% , right?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:21):
so we'll have a margin, I don't know how much is left of lib
but we'll have overflow at any rate
Ricardo diz (22:21):
1064/1402 on lib
Niklas Broberg diz (22:22):
hmm, will be tight
but we should get it at 60% easily, which is sustainable rate
Ricardo diz (22:23):
we will have some low cash in pocket in those times......
Niklas Broberg diz (22:23):
sure, but there are no events
Ricardo diz (22:24):
any particular rebasing for the airship?

I suggest shaka south
not that important anyway
Ricardo diz (22:25):
portugal south would be Ok too
Niklas Broberg diz (22:25):
either is fine by me
Ricardo diz (22:25):
portugal south is better... we have a chance of meeting Mr Darwin
Niklas Broberg diz (22:26):
huh?
Ricardo diz (22:27):
the GS that João had this turn
Niklas Broberg diz (22:27):
oh, I see
Ricardo diz (22:27):
better see if he makes a nice academy for us to take
JeromeB diz (22:28):
are we rushed by the AI on Lib ??
back by the way
Ricardo diz (22:28):
not by a shadow
JeromeB diz (22:28):
ok...
Ricardo diz (22:29):
closest AI laks philo and paper
JeromeB diz (22:29):
then I did not understood "will be tight" by Niklas
Ricardo diz (22:29):
getting lib with just overflow from chemistry
Ricardo diz (22:30):
the rest of lib OFC
Niklas Broberg diz (22:31):
yeah, I meant tight to get it with just overflow
Ricardo diz (22:31):
I have a worker lost 1 n of Ouzo ( grass forest) ... preserve?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:32):
sure
Ricardo diz (22:32):
just to blame you after
Ricardo diz (22:33):
hindu missionary in ouzo btw
let's see if he decides to use it there
red button
Ricardo diz (22:35):
shaka wants to exchange maps
bonanza finishes worker... next?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:36):
some useful infrastructure
Ricardo diz (22:36):
Odeon (1) seems ok
Niklas Broberg diz (22:37):
sure
Ricardo diz (22:37):
same for sparta
Ricardo diz (22:38):
courthouse (5) ?
JeromeB diz (22:38):
courthouse is good
JeromeB diz (22:39):
cash being tight as always in a Smurkz game I think
Ricardo diz (22:39):
hammy built SoZ and got a GS
and no hindi in our land
JeromeB diz (22:39):
SoZ
well
Niklas Broberg diz (22:40):
did he fail to spread, or did he not try?
Ricardo diz (22:40):
I think that the hindi missionary is not for us: hammy moved it to 1 n of BLville
it is going south
Ricardo diz (22:41):
and our friends from atlantis are coming again
Niklas Broberg diz (22:41):
you know how to handle them right?
Ricardo diz (22:42):
( i reaally, really want a frigate or two )
JeromeB diz (22:42):
kick their a$$ is a good start

Ricardo diz (22:44):
ok, red button
Ricardo diz (22:45):
wang is willing to trade compass
Niklas Broberg diz (22:45):
what will he take for it?
JeromeB diz (22:45):
finally
did we got MC somewhere by the way ?
Ricardo diz (22:46):
paper vs compass + WM + 10 g
remember4 he is the worst enemy of stalin
Niklas Broberg diz (22:46):
we care little for stalin anyway
Ricardo diz (22:46):
we are still in turn 113 btw
so, trade?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:47):
sure
we couldn't hope for a better trade
in fact, didn't I say to give paper around to anyone that we might hope will research PP?
Ricardo diz (22:48):
but we are used to your delirious proposals of giving techs to the AI, so no one gave attention
Niklas Broberg diz (22:49):
when this game is over, I'm going to play it from the beginning and give everyone everything all the time
and smoke our date
Ricardo diz (22:49):
shoe polisher
Ricardo diz (22:50):
ok, turn 114
Ricardo diz (22:51):
bonanza finished odeon
any idea?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:51):
courthouse? airport?
Ricardo diz (22:52):
airport (4) ?
Ricardo diz (22:53):
BLville finished WB.....
currently working FP
granary ( 20 )
Ricardo diz (22:54):
or lighthouse ( 20 )
in between this two
will grow in 1 btw
Niklas Broberg diz (22:54):
is the lake its main food source?
Ricardo diz (22:54):
yes
lighthouse then
Niklas Broberg diz (22:54):
then I would go LH first
Ricardo diz (22:55):
hindy missionary continues tracking south
it is not for us
JeromeB diz (22:55):
how many turns before ending the GA ?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:55):
I don't care much
JeromeB diz (22:56):
can we whip something in BLville before ending slqvery ?
Ricardo diz (22:56):
btw, the BLville WB is for panama fish right?
no way
it has pop 1 now
JeromeB diz (22:56):
ok
Ricardo diz (22:57):
will grow next turn, but 1 pop whips ...
JeromeB diz (22:57):
this was supposed to be a production city later, right ?
Niklas Broberg diz (22:57):
yes
JeromeB diz (22:57):
or I am confounding with the other that was settled at that time
Ricardo diz (22:57):
with 1 pop it is hard to be a prod center
Niklas Broberg diz (22:57):
no, you're right
JeromeB diz (22:57):
anyway LH first makes sense
JeromeB diz (22:58):
if we are planning on using the lake there
Ricardo diz (22:58):
btw greenland started univ ( 8 )
JeromeB diz (22:58):
last uni before oxford ?
Ricardo diz (22:58):
yup
ouzo one will be ready next turn
JeromeB diz (22:58):
good
Niklas Broberg diz (22:58):
and it has 8 overflow?
Ricardo diz (22:59):
yes
Niklas Broberg diz (22:59):
and when switching fish to finished windmill you get a total of 44 hpt?
Ricardo diz (23:00):
yes, 44 hpt
Niklas Broberg diz (23:00):
perfect then
Ricardo diz (23:00):
losing 3 f as predicted
Ricardo diz (23:01):
Interesting... discovered some minor islands in the southern ice area
nothing to lose the head for
Niklas Broberg diz (23:01):
cool
Ricardo diz (23:02):
it looks a cool place indeed

Ricardo diz (23:03):
4 medic I CR3 swords landed in athens cows
Ricardo diz (23:04):
now make that 4 dead medic I CR3 swords
Niklas Broberg diz (23:04):

Niklas Broberg diz (23:05):
we'll be cool as long as they don't get maces before we have our rifles
Ricardo diz (23:05):
rifles? paratroopers
Niklas Broberg diz (23:05):
sure, of course
Ricardo diz (23:05):
we only lack rifling to be able to make them
Ricardo diz (23:06):
I have a worker free in greenland
camp in BFC furs ?
Ricardo diz (23:07):
mine in bfc riverside plains hills?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:07):
I'd build a windmill
mines are no good
Ricardo diz (23:07):
preserves somewhere, maybe?
Ricardo diz (23:08):
or simply road the newly done windmill ?
windmill looks ok
Ricardo diz (23:09):
end turn
Ricardo diz (23:10):
Athens ends confu temple....
courthouse (4)
anyone against?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:11):
works for me
Ricardo diz (23:11):
Ouzo finishes univ ( coool ). courhouse too?
3 turns
Niklas Broberg diz (23:11):
works for me
Ricardo diz (23:11):
wang gets a GG
Ricardo diz (23:12):
hammy goes beuaro
wang has optics to sell
JeromeB diz (23:12):
I love courthouse...
we want Optics

Niklas Broberg diz (23:13):
we definitely want optics
JeromeB diz (23:13):
is wang getting beaten by Stalin or the other way around ??
Ricardo diz (23:13):
philo vs optics + 85
he should already have beakers on philo to give this excuse of trade
JeromeB diz (23:13):
that would open Lib right ?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:13):
nah
Ricardo diz (23:13):
no, wang lacks edu
Niklas Broberg diz (23:13):
no one has education
JeromeB diz (23:13):
what did we sell him last ?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:13):
and it's not like anyone would beat us anyway
JeromeB diz (23:13):
ah paper....
JeromeB diz (23:14):
agreed
anyway I'd take the deal
Ricardo diz (23:14):
philo then vs optics?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:14):
yep, perfect trade
sure
Ricardo diz (23:14):
wang is being such a nice guy
JeromeB diz (23:14):
with gold
nice guy with gold
Ricardo diz (23:15):
he has more than 85 to give, but he should already have a good part of philo researched
JeromeB diz (23:15):
having wang in the game is really cool
compared to Hammy....
for example
Ricardo diz (23:17):
niklas, give this a look
http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x257/r_rolo1/SGOTM 9/th_Civ4ScreenShot0586.jpg
Niklas Broberg diz (23:17):
um, no way I can see it in that resolution
did you link me to the thumbnail?
Ricardo diz (23:17):
sorry
JeromeB diz (23:18):

Ricardo diz (23:18):
http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x257/r_rolo1/SGOTM 9/?action=view&current=Civ4ScreenShot0586.jpg
that is better
Niklas Broberg diz (23:18):
yes
Ricardo diz (23:18):
that will be a close call .p
Niklas Broberg diz (23:18):
doh
Niklas Broberg diz (23:19):
you should have told me my count was off
Ricardo diz (23:19):
3 F -3 F
Niklas Broberg diz (23:19):
well, the plan was to whip this turn, not next
Ricardo diz (23:19):
not avaliable :/
Niklas Broberg diz (23:19):
but obviously I counted on OR bonus for the whip hammers
Ricardo diz (23:19):

and i failed to notice
Ricardo diz (23:20):
so for me too
Niklas Broberg diz (23:20):
so should we revolt to taoism?
Ricardo diz (23:20):

JeromeB diz (23:20):
whip should be available soon (next turn ?)
Niklas Broberg diz (23:20):
yeah, may as well
JeromeB diz (23:20):
work Fish ?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:20):
fish and sheep, we only need to generate 5 base hammers this turn
Ricardo diz (23:20):
fair enough
Niklas Broberg diz (23:21):
fish, sheep, windmill and grass hill forest presumably
JeromeB diz (23:21):
we'll whip anyway
Niklas Broberg diz (23:21):
next turn yes
JeromeB diz (23:21):
any point in getting overflow ?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:21):
granary, but it's better to just get food
Ricardo diz (23:21):
not really
JeromeB diz (23:21):
ok
Ricardo diz (23:21):
and overflow will be cut out anyaway
JeromeB diz (23:22):
any reason I fear unhapiness ?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:22):
no idea why you would do that
JeromeB diz (23:22):

you got the idea
5-4 after whip, will be what, 4-4 ?
Ricardo diz (23:22):
so remove iced forest and plains forest to fish and sheep?
Ricardo diz (23:23):
with pop 2 that is not a issue
JeromeB diz (23:23):
damn
whip for 2
sorry
Ricardo diz (23:23):

JeromeB diz (23:23):
well deserved
Ricardo diz (23:23):
you need more 2 or 3 martinis
JeromeB diz (23:24):
I guess it's....
Ricardo diz (23:24):
ok, sheep and fish worked
JeromeB diz (23:24):
vodka time them, temperature stil around 25 here, I need something frozen to death
Ricardo diz (23:25):
only 25? lucky bastard
Ricardo diz (23:26):
just checked, 28ºC
me wins
Niklas Broberg diz (23:26):
bah, we have 8
JeromeB diz (23:26):
I leave you that win
Niklas Broberg diz (23:26):
and I need to take the dogs out in those 8, so cya guys in a while
Ricardo diz (23:26):
no prob
JeromeB diz (23:26):
climatically, Niklas is my hereo here, though
Ricardo diz (23:26):
don't freeze

Niklas Broberg saiu da conversa.

JeromeB diz (23:27):
ok let's start Manhattan now that nobody looks around
Atlantis must be nuked to death

Ricardo diz (23:28):
we only need fission and rocketry
JeromeB diz (23:28):
that's easy
JeromeB diz (23:29):
though you said no to rocketry (to my surprise, since I know your strong nukem all inclination)
Ricardo diz (23:29):
I just said that I'm not a fan of going to rocketry and then take 342534 turns to build anything related to the tech
Ricardo diz (23:30):
btw red button
Ricardo diz (23:31):
now we know how to make the cannons for frigates , but not the frigates themselfes
Notre dame done
JeromeB diz (23:32):
that's cool
Ricardo diz (23:32):
whipping univ in greenland
JeromeB diz (23:34):
sounds good
Ricardo diz (23:34):
we can lib @ 0 % *party*
JeromeB diz (23:34):
whip for 2 right ?
Ricardo diz (23:34):
yes
JeromeB diz (23:34):
lib due next turn at 0% ?
that's cool
Ricardo diz (23:35):
now i need something to do in this turn in the cap, while waiting for Oxford/nat park
JeromeB diz (23:35):
uh
Ricardo diz (23:36):
99 hammers avaliable
JeromeB diz (23:36):
what's still available ?
ahhhh
research ?
gold ?
at least you'll keep overflow, right ?
Ricardo diz (23:36):
yes
good though
Ricardo diz (23:37):
overflow is 18 raw hammers
JeromeB diz (23:38):
then I did not understood the 99 hammers I guess
Ricardo diz (23:38):
18 raw hammers + 39 hammers of base prod
modifier. 50% + 25%
JeromeB diz (23:39):
ok
then probably does not matters so much to keep the overflow
anything useful available fot these 57 hammers ?
Ricardo diz (23:40):
temples, aqueduct, courthouse, jail...
JeromeB diz (23:41):
mmm
well
not convinced I guess
temples maybe
Ricardo diz (23:41):
we have confu and tao temples open there
JeromeB diz (23:41):
not even so sure the hapiness will be an issue soon
will it be ?
Ricardo diz (23:42):
no
JeromeB diz (23:42):
then... jail neither, acqueduct is even less an issue I think
courthouse in cap, bah
Ricardo diz (23:43):
only to open FP faster and even then
JeromeB diz (23:43):
we are not planning huge conquests
at least it does not look to me we are
JeromeB diz (23:44):
if we'd want to take over Joao or Hammy, courthouse could make sense... not really, not now at least
anything else ?
Ricardo diz (23:44):
stable
in one turn, it is it
Ricardo diz (23:45):
wait , HG is still undone
JeromeB diz (23:45):
what ?
WHAT ???
Ricardo diz (23:45):
H....G .... is .... still .... un...done....
JeromeB diz (23:46):
we could use some HG, I think
or the gold that comes with HG when someone else does it
Ricardo diz (23:46):
4 turns, counting with aqueduct... in cap
JeromeB diz (23:47):
if it was my game, I'd try to complete it
Ricardo diz (23:47):
indeed
but it isn't my game
JeromeB diz (23:47):
how many cities ?
~7 ?
8 ?
Ricardo diz (23:47):
9
JeromeB diz (23:48):
+8 pop is huge for us
9 even better
health is less an issue, but instagrowth is way cool
Ricardo diz (23:49):
agreed.... better stop here, no? ask the team and such
JeromeB diz (23:49):
i guess
JeromeB diz (23:50):
of course it would delay NatPark
anywhere else we can try for it ?
Ricardo diz (23:50):
it is a good place to sotp either, lib next turn and such
Ricardo diz (23:51):
btw wang has aesthetics to trade
Ricardo diz (23:53):
wants edu or natio for it ... no way.... i'm not niklas
JeromeB diz (23:53):
yup
JeromeB diz (23:54):
why would we need aesth now ?
Ricardo diz (23:54):
no particular reason
JeromeB diz (23:55):
then...
Ricardo diz (23:55):
but, as i'm going to post this in the thread...
JeromeB diz (23:56):
ah

Niklas Broberg está na conversa.

Ricardo diz (23:57):
wb
how was the 8 ºC walk ?
Niklas Broberg diz (23:58):
nice
did we win yet?
Ricardo diz (23:58):
cool and fresh, I guess
no
I was interrupted by oyzar
and this
Ricardo diz (23:45):
wait , HG is still undone
JeromeB diz (23:45):
what ?
WHAT ???
Ricardo diz (23:45):
H....G .... is .... still .... un...done....

Niklas Broberg diz (23:59):

build!
Ricardo diz (23:59):
that was the smiley i used
JeromeB diz (23:59):
since we are 3 to agree....

Ricardo diz (23:59):
best time is in the cap ( 1 turn for aqueduct + 3 for HG )
Niklas Broberg diz (00:00):
no
the cap should build oxford and np
Ricardo diz (00:01):
then we have 1 turn of gap now in cap
that is exactly why I noticed that HG is undone
Ricardo diz (00:02):
so, besides cap, the best spot is bonanza ( 2 turns for aqueduct + 6 for HG )
Niklas Broberg diz (00:02):
go for it
Ricardo diz (00:03):
and what to do in cap this turn?
we can't start oxford or nat park this turn
Ricardo diz (00:04):
wealth/research to carry overflow, since we don't really need any of the 1 turn buildings?

The only realy discussion now is what to research after lib and some minor MM issues, like what to do in cap this turn, while waiting for Oxford or nat park.

Niklas Broberg diz (22:49):
when this game is over, I'm going to play it from the beginning and give everyone everything all the time
and smoke our date

Don't forget to lose Athens.
