SGOTM 09 - Team CFR

We need AH for new cities growth, while we would hardly build any cottages. And instead of granary I'd expect to build antibarb warriors. So I'd go for AH-Wri - hope for trading neighbour. Oracle I propose to risk after Alpha.

Up to me we have to exlore region better to find place for the 2nd city. I see several good spots and I think that 2nd culture expansion of the capital will give a few more information to think about. May be we'd better skip AH for now.

I dont think that barbarians can be aggresive because they dont usually build galleys but recieve them for free.

We can delay the decision while building 2nd worker before settler and researching Wheel while our scout reveals the land.

Here a test map resembling the tiles revealed for now. Per your request, naaasty barbs with galleys and AI_CITY_ATTACK_LEMMING :) Edit: However, I think you need to get them onboard first, and that require making barbs playable, board, get back, unplayable again, and I'm not doing this.

Note that overflow from military units with Police State to non-military units or buildings has error rounding so we will lost 1 hammer in the cases when we build military units with low hammer output. Really +25% doesn't work during Warrior producing, but overflow will be decreased in any case... :(

Variant 1 for next session:

7-10: Researching The Wheel, continue Worker, Scout go NW.
11: Worker starts Farm on the nearest Corn, Building Warrior, Citizen still works on Corn.
13: The Wheel, Researching Pottery.
14: Farm is ready, Borders expand.
15: Worker starts second Farm, Capital grows to size 2, second citizen works on Forest 2/1 for sync growth and Warrior without hammer overflow.
18: Second Farm is ready, Capital grows to size 3, produces Warrior, Starts Settler/Worker 12 hammers per turn. Pottery in 1 turn.

If we will research Animal Husbandry we will get it on turn 14, so Writing starts 5 turns earlier. But no Roads and Granary before Alpha (may be later).

We can also grow Capital to size 4 (delay Warrior or start Granary if use Pottery way) on turn 20. In this case we will build Settler in 5 turns so delay will be 1 turn vs previous variant.

Growing to size 5 from 4 costs 1 turn only. If we will build Worker instead of Settler it's better (3 turns vs 4 turns).

Warrior after worker and growing to size 3 is fine with me. After that we can decide whether we want a second worker or a settler. Choosing the tech path is a much more difficult question, but I think both AH and wheel->pottery will work fine for us and there won't be much difference in the end. If it were my solo game, I would have chosen AH and went for the 2nd city near cows/clams, I doubt that the barbs can be as dangerous as you are saying. But if you guys want to play it safe and avoid settling that city untill we have units stronger then warriors, it is fine with me. And in that case there is no clear advantage for going AH.

There was some discussion in the maintenance thread about an exploit that allows to get info on terrain under the fog of war by giving a unit movement orders by shift + right click.

From how the path is drawn you can learn if the movement is up, down or level. That means you can tell for every tile in the fog if it is water, flat, hill or peak.
Sounds like we can get some important info (how big our landmass is, where are other landmasses located, etc), but it requires some rather tedious work to be done. Our rivals may be using it, so perhaps we should also.

In my test from Lexad's test save Barbarians went to the south with Galley and took Musa's city...
Holy elephants! No coastal cities in the south before BW, then. Gyathaar could do something like this easily
Warrior after worker and growing to size 3 is fine with me.
+1

I don't think he could do something that evil. That will be too unbalancing IMO.

Hmm, I didn't know about Relief Revealing Exploit, described by AlanH and Klarius. It can be used safely at the end of turn, when all units already have moved. It's strong help for players, sorry it can't be controlled by staff so AlanH allows us to use it.
Really we can't look at the whole World before Stonehedge or Calendar, but I looked around.
Our continent looks like North Amerika. We are in East Canada, Land on East is "Grenland", Barbarian city is placed on single-tile island "The Bermuda Triangle". Width of our contintnt is around 20 tiles on the same latitude as our capital. It is narrow to the south and 5 tiles under our Scout there are 2 necks of land and second continent to the south, I can't scroll more... East neck is "Cuba" I think... West side of our continent contains many of peaks - "Cordilleras".

So it looks like we have 2-3 neghbours: 1 on the west and 1-2 on south continent. Of course, may be all AI are placed far away...

If I right understand the type of our world our Continent is mostly Forest Tundra, Plains with Forest and Mountains on the west. South continent may be contains Jungles...

Researching Wheel.
Turn 10, met Babylon.

There goes phalanx rush, and Obormot so much wanted one... :(

Some new tiles revealed. We have Marble near the Capital. May be it's place for second city.

So far we're going to settle 2nd city north at fish to get fast GS for Academy and 3rd - on top of marble for Oracle. The choice is between growing to 3 and growing to 2 before settler, and tomorrow I'll update test map for more thorough testing.

I have stopped here because we should test variants of our development.

Turn 11, 3340BC, Worker ready, starts Irrigating Corn.

Now we have enough info for starting development testing except we don't know how many AI exists on our landmass. So we start testing and comparing our results. May be we need 2 fast Settler for Fish and Marble Cities (and several Workers) before Capital extra growth. We need the big Capital for commerce and hammers, we need fast GS for Academy and we need the Oracle.
Our tech way also isn't clear. I think we should go to the Alpha but what way? AH is required for Marble city and, may be, it reveals Horses. Pottery gives Granaries but may be we don't need it so fast and will trade or research it after Alpha.
