SGOTM 09 - Team CFR

Davay!
.

A note from the save - we have much land (1457 tiles) according to score breakdown. Thereware war might not be necessary to get numerous cities for space.

First move, nothing special.

My vote - scout 2s, if nothing extra, settle 1S.

Well, Dynamic says barb can desant from galleys and thus threaten our future coastal cities. Never saw that, personally, although cap claims he did. Wel, not the biggest issue now, but possibly an opportunity to seize extra city

21 GNP might mean smth like Creative leader with 1 commerce from 1st worker (forest spices or such) or Financial leader with oasis or such. Food and hammers also in line, so nothing like pop10 city with flood plains gold mine in 1st radius from Gyathaar... so far.

Also, everyone has Approval Rate 83% - no Charismatic leaders... or everyone is, can't remember for Noble.

First session, lets look and discuss.

Turn 0, 4000 BC: The revolution has begun!!!
Turn 0, 4000 BC: CFR adopts Police State!
Turn 0, 4000 BC: CFR adopts Environmentalism!
Turn 0, 4000 BC: The anarchy is over! Your government is re-established.
Turn 1, 3940 BC: Athens has been founded.
Turn 2, 3880 BC: The borders of Athens have expanded!
Turn 6, 3640 BC: You have discovered Agriculture!
Turn 6, 3640 BC: Buddhism has been founded in a distant land!

Our map... Now we still don't know the west part. 7 turns later our borders will expand and Scout will go by circle to the NW.

I think we shouldn't found cities on south coast before strong defence. Ready Barbarian city could send Galley to us, destroy fish resource and, may be, landing units...

Tomorrow I will post test result for future development. The main decision for now: the way of research.
In any case we will have time to decide, where to found second city.

Dynamic's test game had lots of green land, but the real one has mostly tundra and plains. :)

The continent looks big enough, so we propably have at least one AI on it. Tech trading after Alphabet is likely, but not guaranteed.

We have to choose between going AH->Writing->Alphabet and self-reseaching Wheel, Pottery, Mining & BW. The beaker cost of Alphabet and (Mining+BW+Pottery+Wheel) is roughly the same. But if we get Alphabet we'll also likely be able to trade for sailing, IW, maybe masonry. If we don't get Alphabet ourselves, we'll have to wait untill AI researches it and that may delay sailing & IW significantly. But those techs are not really essential, and if we beeline Alphabet we risk not getting any techs at all. Perhaps we should research AH as the next tech, and then stop for more discussion again.

If we decide to build the Oracle, we may skip AH and go mysticism->meditation->priesthood->writing->alphabet. But we'll likely need AH for our second city, so I don't think it is a good idea.

The barb city looks interesting. Maybe its some kind of a clue that the map designer wanted to give us.

I prefer Wheel-Pottery-Writing for Granary and Library instead of building many Warriors if we will delay expantion. And Roads also will be useful for connecting resources if we will discover its. I think we need a Settler after Worker and Warrior in any case, but if we will not force Warrior we will get Settler 1 turn later but with size 3 Capital for working on the Windmill and we will have a little bit motre time for decision. May be we have some interesting on the west, for example Marble or Stone or some Lux resource.

Even with the poor land we have I would prefer getting a couple of settlers built before granary & library. Granary may come earlier, but thats only if we intend to make the switch to slavery.

Going wheel->pottery basicly means that we are not going for alphabet (because AH will be required for the 2nd city, & mining+BW costs much less then Alphabet). Going for AH next may be a safer option, since it will allow us to use both plans.

Settler at size 3 after a worker & a warrior sounds good.

We still don't know where will be our second city. I'm affraid of founding cities on south coast before Axes or so. Wheel and Pottery will delay Alpha a little bit but we will have a strong center who can supply many other cities without stopping science. Early wxpantion is good if it's safe (I always use it in HOF games), but now we have opposite situation. Lets test our development and compare it with digits. Of course, better test willbe ofter discovering west but because we should choose our tech way we need some tests for now...

Why is it not safe? The barbs are standard, not raging and its monarch difficulty. The city site south near cows & clams looks good, but, of course we may find an even better location.
