SGOTM 10 - Team Liz

Well done, Mark. I see in the statistics we caught up with that other German (klarius). Don't have the time right now to investigate and say something stupid or smart. See you guys in a few hours.

Here are my recommendations for our present cities. I'd say: read it, keep the good ideas and throw away the bad ones :D

London: goes fine

York:
Maybe a granary-prebuild for a harbour would be in order. With a harbour and mined hills York could become a powerfull navy-base.

Nottingham:
Present: horseman in 3 turns. After 3 turns we can do 10 shields (after corruption) by working sheep, goatmountain, forest(SW), forest(NNE) and unimproved plain(SE). Goatmountain is mined in 3 turns and happiness problem will be solved by the capture of Cuzco. The worked tiles should be roaded as it is nearly uncorrupted commerce, but thats only needed when we start researching again.

Hastings:
Going fine, on his way to assist in the wareffort.

Canterbury:
Switch working the unimproved hill (1F1S1C) to the unimproved riverbank (2F1C). Switch production 1 turn to archer and second turn back to worker. Canterbury will then be aligned for 3-turn worker production .

Coventry:
Switch working the fish to the bg now being mined, as the mine is due in 1 turn. Second turn switch working the forest to the fish to optimise growth.

Warwick:
More corrupt then I hoped for, but it is doing fine.

Newcastle:
Doing fine.

Oxford:
I suppose corruption will still be kind to Oxford, so perhaps switch to a granary-prebuild for a harbour. There going to come some chops near Oxford. The AI values Map Making high, so I expect it to come available soon.

Liverpool:
Has to have a harbour. 2 Fish, on a river and grassland nearby it will become a very fine place to live for science-specialists.

Cuzco:
At start new turn: investigate city. If still 1 spear defending and still Cuzco at size 6 I propose we move in for the kill. When there are more defenders or it grows to size 7 maybe we should pause and discuss.
If going for the kill I would recomment: move the 2 archers 2E. The horseman can go E, S (grab the worker) and E. And of course @Paul: Hals und Beinbruch ;)

Edit:
btw I see that we have 1 archer and 2 horsies, not the other way around. Doesn't really changes my recommendation though.

@ mark
nicely done - you've brought our score up from 5 behind klarius to level pegging :goodjob:

I have a query about diplomacy - when did MM and poly get shared around? It seems everone knows these techs except us and Sumerians

@ Redbad - good suggestion re Canterbury - I was envisioning all sorts of convoluted manouvering

Re war effort
I suggest sending all archers to Incan front ASAP (perhaps leave one in NW to take out barbs). There are sev mp's not required which can be shifted to cover for departing archers. Even if have to temp raise lux, its worth it since there are 2 luxes on offer here to keep the rate down in future. Of course all horses should join as produced. I would see a wave of strike, then heal, then strike again getting rid of Incans within next turnset. The important thing is to focus the troops in a stack
Oracle should build soon (? on next interturn or one after on my calculations)
Cuzco is size 6 - hopefully wont go size 7 before we attack.
Sorry Paul, but it looks like your wish for a last minute oracle build by barb nation so Cuzco switches to pyramids is unlikely (I agree it would have been nice though)

Oops, got new task for Newcastle:
Switch production to wealth and citizen to science specialist. Set research slider to 0%. It will raise our gpt from 22(edited) to 25.

Certainly, but it's only about 1 archer. ;)

Needless to say we rather not want to do gpt-business with Pachacuti ;)

Re trading
both poly and MM are valued at 16gpt by all 4 AI who have knowledge
I suggest buying from 2 with mixture of mainly gpt nad topped up with cash (we only have 22gpt avail). This will boost their research over the next 20 turns (we still have 33 turns till rep). I am certain maths will come in well before the 33 turns are up, possibly lit ??? construction.

Looking through the cities
London has an uneccessary mp (only needs 1 at size 6 - he can go to Nott to release the archer there)
York - harbour build sounds good
Nott- I like Redbad's plan - 3 turn horsies will ensure our campaign doesnt run out of steam
Hastings should pick up steam soon - it will shortly need a mp
Warwick has a wealth of BGs around it - ot will also be a good military producer
Newcastle - I would keep on worker duty
Oxford - should get a harbour (completing current warrior to mp Hastings would be useful), but perhaps draw a worker out first?
Liverpool - worker firsty then harbour would be my bet - doesnt need a warrior as already has a mp

Settlers should come on turns 1, 5 and 9 next turnset
Settler on way to one of the NW sites (? orange dot - grass tile on west coast)
My suggestions for following 3
1) Black dot 3SE of Warwick
2) Yellow dot 4NW of Cuzco - will bring FP and olives into use
3) Purple dot (but in Redbad's suggested site 1N (ie S,SE of Coventry bringing gold hill into use and avoiding being adjacent the volcano)

If we want to do lone scientist, why not use our most corrupt town - curently I would give the vote to Liverpool, but the new town about to be settled in the NW might take that title. Either way they could be prebuilding a harbour

In principle you're right, but Liverpool has a sensible goal (the harbour) and I thought that we could do a pop-rush somewhere in between.

But either way I have no strong feelings over which city does it;

I did not check on the techs. :cry: Sorry. I think I play too much AW.:crazyeye:

Don't forget we can build our Forbidden Palace. We can check whether Cuzco would be a good location or will we raze it ?

Why raze it? - Inca has only 4 towns, shortly none so no flip risk :D

Good call on FP - I had considered it too. I would wait till after capture then do some checking with civassist

I see little reason for razing Cuzco. And I don't have any concrete plans about the FP at the moment.:blush:

Alright brothers, to get my spam count up, here are some new thoughts.

Civilizations:

Byzantines
scientific & seafaring
Owners of the Colossus and had in the ambassedors pic already the most beakers.
I rate them as the best research partner we have.
I suggest to buy one of new techs from them for gpt. No hostilities towards them and let them expand.

Inca
expansionistic & seafaring
Probably frontrunner in building the Oracle. Mediocre in beakers in the Cuzco pic.
I don't have strong feelings about their research capabilities, but now their expan trait is over, I rate them mediocre. Because they're nearest, have 2 lux, and are not scientific, I suggest we attack and destroy them.

Maya
agricultural & industrious
Switched their Colossus build to Pyramids and I expect them to build it within say 10 to 15 turns. They will get a Golden Age upon completing the Pyramids.
They had second highest beakers in the Chichen Itza pic.
I suggest we let them build the Pyramids, have them as a research partner during their GA and then plan on taking the Pyramids and destroy them.

Netherlands
agricultural and seafaring
Switched their Colossus build to the Mausoleum and I expect them to build it very soon.
I don't value them high on research. They seem to have dry lands and are lowest on score.
I suggest we destroy them. It could be handy (if Amsterdam builds the Mausoleum) to gift the city to Byzantines. The next wonder Theodora will build will give her then a Golden Age.

Sumeria
scientific & agricultural
Are building the Oracle and will get it if we knock out Cuzco in time.
Though they're scientific I rate them low as research partners. They are the only AI not to have MM and Poly.
They have fine lands and are nearby. I suggest we attack them after Inca, but leave them 1 town as they're scientific.

So I would suggest the following conquest order:
1. Inca (destroy)
2. Sumeria (1 town left)
3. Dutch (destroy) (MoM to Byzantines)
4. Maya, after their GA (destroy)
5. Byzantines, when they start lacking in research (1 town left)

Buy Map Making and Polytheism from Byzantines and Maya for gpt.

Got it (I was looking over the Elbe when a small save shipped by. I could grabbed it and dried it in the Abendsonne :D ).

Will analyse posts, dot maps and my own state of mind (after Hamburg lost to Bremen today in soccer).

Guess I will report here after few turns. Thanks for the nice wishes, Redbad.

best of luck... redbads last post will really help!

I did not even play a single turn... :rolleyes:

On the IBT turn, Sumerian's Ur completed the Oracle :eek: :D
Cuzco hasn't switched yet but I sure want to wait, if it switches to pyramides for us...

So I was wrong, it's not the Pirates to complete Oracle for us...

and in 1200 I take a look at Cuzco...

I guess we will wait another 9 turns, but I wanted to ask the team because it has some strategical weight... :D
EDIT: No need to reply, I couldn't wait any longer... :D

Do you want the pyramides? :hmm:
Do we think someone else might be faster?
I think if we declare war before Cuzco finishes it, it would quickly change to some spear... :ack:
if a scout (or other MP) moves in, it might grow to size 7 before completing it...
But with 2-5 more horses we should risk it, no?

It still needs 9x8=72 shields, it did produce for 3 turns since Oracle was built - it must have been on the same turn, Cuzco going from 299 to 307, Ur completing it first. How did they get >29 shields in 3 turns? It must have been a change in lux rates. :hmm:

Pre flight check

our empire is in great shape :goodjob:

Take off
0) 1250
switched Liverpool to worker, York to granary (harbor prebuild)
change Canterbury to archer as Redbad suggested to tune worker production (stay at size 4)
MM Coventry as suggested.

IBT
Chasqui scout stepped on mountain 2N of Newcastle :( Remember to leave MP there...
London : settler -> settler
Oxford : warrior -> worker
Sumerians start pyramides
Sumerian'S Ur builds Oracle :eek:
Cuzco still size 6. Decide to wait, if it switches to Pyramides...

1) 1225
lots of MM.
Buy MM from Theodora for 14gpt, 6g. Sell MM to Sumer for 141g (after gifting 100g for nice relationship)
Nottingham leaves Goats Mountain open for Hastings to speed up its barracks.
York gets sheep two of three turns.

IBT
Cusco builds pyramides, 9 turns to go at 8 spt.

2) 1200
Dover founded on orange dot. It has a scientist and builds Granary (prebuild harbor)
Bored horse steps on mountain 2N of Newcastle - sheep and another olives tile! That's where to settle next. NE of yellow dot.
Hastings lost a 2nd (of 7) shield to corruption, needs goat for another turn to complete barracks. Nottingham works forrest.

IBT
Nottingham horse -> horse.
Hastings, Warwick barracks -> horse.
Amsterdam finishes Mausoleum.
Byzanz, Inca get Maths!

3) 1175
Buy Maths from Theodora for 11 gpt, 42g.
Buy Poly from Mayas for Maths, 78g.
Sell Maths to William for 58g (+92 gifted).
We have 246g at 0gpt.
Nottingham can't get 10 spt at size 5 without highering lux rate :( We need one more road on forrest or mountain. Shares Mountain with Hastings (6 spt).
Let Settler march through Inca territory, heavily escorted by warrior and bow :scared:
With a chop going to Coventry soon, Granary will be complete in 4 turns (at 4spt). It will then have 6 food.
Stalling growth by working forrest, iron hill, mountain (4,4,3,3,2 spt) will finish 1 turn later, growth to size 3 2 turns later with 10 food in tin. I decide earlier growth.
Oh had I calculated that last turn :(
Oops. Canterbury will grow the same turn as London and needs the forrest to complete worker. Remember to move tile on London's complete-message!

IBT
Incas tell us to leave. You bastards could be much friendlier. If you were not building something useful... :angry:
Chasqui sneaked into Cuzco. Speeds up build and growth...

4) 1150
Oops, forgot to gift Maths and Poly to Sumeria... sell both for 16g (+124 gifted)

IBT
Byzantine spear steps in, NE of Newcastle.
London : settler -> settler
Ah, completing the settler, London immediately freed forrest again. Hope this is not gold mine exploit, if Canterbury uses it again...
Canterbury : worker -> worker
Barbies start Pyramides :cool:

5) 1125
Tell Thea to leave. She promises to do so.
Found Brighton NE of yellow dot. Start worker.

IBT
Maya warrior steps on our soil NW of Canterbury!
Newcastle: worker -> worker

6) 1100
Advisor talks about barbs near dover. Next horse will investigate.

IBT
Nottingham horse -> horse
Liverpool worker -> harbor

7) 1075
Boot Maya intruder. He leaves.

IBT
Hastings, Warwick: horse -> horse
Canterbury : worker -> worker
Coventry Granary -> worker

8) 1050
Move horses to Necastle.

IBT
Our military plans were stolen (translated from German message :blush: ).

9) 1025
horse takes out barb camp near dover and promotes.

IBT
zzz

10) 1000
founded Norwich (just to get into QSC-Score and to keep pace with Team Klarius) :D

After flight check
Canterbury won't get the forrest from London this turn, that's why I waste a food York would usually get.
It will get plain and the 4th shield on growth.
4 workers are cleaning marsh for Coventry. Ready in 3 turns.
2 workers road forest near Nottingham to cope with happyness issues.
worker near Oxford should support (upcoming) harbor build in Oxford with chop.
4 workers have movement left.

5 horses are ready for Cuzco We might (after investigation) send some to Tiwanaku for the first strike (before it becomes capital.
Oops. Just investigated Cuzco. To late to send horses to Tiwanaku :(
That idea came too late :blush:

Here is the save

Well done Paul :goodjob:

Someone's got egg on their face - so certain Cuzco would build Oracle first :blush: . Looks like I neglected to factor in clowns.

14 workers - much healthier :goodjob:

Moving yellow dot to where you settled Brighton looks good

I've yet to have look at save but I'd say Abegweit gets the pleasure of adding pyramids to our collection and roll through the Incas

Quick query
Where is settler near Warwick headed?
