SGOTM 10 - Xteam

I just use paint for my screen shots. All I do is chop it up and post it. Sometimes I add lines and comments.

Here is a Sid level game where we didn't use anything other than our wits to win. No exploits, no tricks, nothing dishonorable: Sid Vicious

After Action Report:
Well, frustrating turn set. I should have waited and built up some Cats and Trebs before attacking. They are now beginning to appear, so we can attack Sumer. Akshak was a nut I couldn’t crack as I lost everytime I tried to attack there. We remain strong versus Sumeria.

Finally managed to pillage his Iron and then found out he must have another source as he doesn’t want any during the peace neg’s.

Invention is widely available but no one will trade, at the moment. The Maya are annoyed with us and the only thing I can think of is that when we traded them Spices and Iron the trade route was cut by our war with Sumeria as they are not at war with anyone at present.

EDIT - BTW - I didn't think the screenie capture worked, but it did. I'll do better next time. I expected it to ask me a question about where to store it, but it just does it. I found the file after my set. :crazyeye:

@Leif: Thanks for the screenie of us whacking somebody! :hammer:

I was surprised when I found it. Besides, it was the high point of the evening.

He must be in his GA, so he has 10 or 11 turns left. Once 5 or 6 Trebs can be assembled up north, the real push can begin. However, I should have checked more closely on a secure trade route before declaring. I saw the roads head south and assumed they connected us securely to Mayans.

We could also consider making peace and letting the GA shields go into peaceful structures while we continue a military build up. Perhaps there will be some choice tech developed as a result? :mischief:

Leif - when you load screenshot assistant there is a button with three dots on it in the options area that allows you change where the pics are saved. I usually set it to my same folder as the game save files.

Pre-flight – 250 AD – There is a ton of things going on that I didn’t have a clue about. So the first thing we need to do is summarize our situation for everyone.

Here is the northeastern front:

I intend on taking the two armies around Sumer and marching straight to Ur. Then we’ll reevaluate the situation. I will also gather a force at red circle and then march north.

Then we have two other fronts that I didn’t know about. I think if we had some screenshots and folks had shared the tactical situation, we could have planned out a campaign in the west a little better.

Here is the west:

We are in extremis out here. Not sure what the MDI is doing off by his lonesome (red circle) We are going to need to gather a lot more units to even consider doing something here. If our spear survives at Oxford, I will probably just fight a holding action here until we can get our act together.

To be continued…

Thanks Gator. :goodjob: I actually pressed the screenie key a couple of times but only found 1 photo file. Does it automatically sequence the file names so you can take more than 1 screenie per session or do I need to set that somewhere as well? :crazyeye:

Good luck Bugs! ;)

That MDI chased down a Sumerian Sword that was headed for Oxford. I was sending him to Oxford as well to join the party there.

@Bugs: What's our cash position? Any room to rush anything useful?

If you've got slow moving, good attackers, try to draw 'em in and whack 'em back.

Just gimme a messy tactical situation when you'r done. That's what really makes me get up for a game. :D

Take those two MDI south of Akshak and move them towards Oxford.

One army south of Sumer is fortified. Wake that up and attack. Kill two defenders.

Micromanage for a few shillings.

IBT – We go four for five, but lose the most important battle…
SGOTM_-_250_-_Oxford.JPG

260 – Gather forces south of Sumer. Take out an archer south of Lagash. March on Oxford. We have 33% WW. Hopefully recapturing Oxford will help that.

IBT - Things go pretty well until…

Well that will take a bit of recovering from.

270 - @ Oxford – There is a second defender, but…

I decide we need to increase our research a bit. Invention is now due in 13 turns with positive cash flow.

To be continued...

These guys that haven't played with me before are not gonna get this... but

280 – Our trebs take a few hp off the defenders at Sumer so we attack with our armies.

Collect four slaves. That’s a mini-SOD of two MDI and two pikes.

IBT – Gilamesh makes a tactical error and splits his mini-SOD, two MDI headed towards Sumer, two pikes head south.

290 – I bombard and pick off the two MDI. Gathering up some units for a march on Kish. Leave one MDI in Sumer with the surrounding hills full of our units.

IBT – Two units march next to Sumer.

300 – Pick off several stragglers. March on Kish with four MDI.

IBT – A few more stragglers step forward.

310 – Take out the two defenders at Kish and…

We can get a tech and a city for peace at the moment. I realize that my SGOTM resources still are not working.

IBT – Not much from Sumeria. I can see two units.

320 – Gather up a force for the west coast of Sumeria. Healing up the armies for a central push.

330 – The reason Leif had so much trouble at Akshak is that there has been a steady stream of galleys in and out of that place. There’s probably five or six defenders in there.

IBT – We lose our first unit of this set as a LB sorties out of Agade and takes a unit off our West Coast task force.

340 – Bombard some Sumerians. First Blood attacks and Horatio Nelson appears on dry land.

Lord Nelson forms a MDI army. Take out the other two MDIs you see and spot the Sumerian iron.

IBT – Sumerians run for cover. We get the Pentagon message.

350 – March on Ur, Agade and complete gathering a force at Huamanga.

After Action – Make sure you go after Akshak with combined arms. Here is the situation in the Northeast:

Three task forces are ready to go. Scout if you don’t consolidate this peninsula in five turns I’m taking away your birthday.

Here is the northwest:

There are four MDI gathering. I’d leave Zambalam as the only Sumerian city.

I'm away until Saturday. Then I'll probably have to work Sunday and all day Monday to catch up on work before I go on a business trip Monday eve until Wed eve.

Please skip me in both sgotms, at least until Thursday next week.

I'll try to post and share in the discussion from work on Sun-Mon, but won't have time to play :(

Nice Turnset Bugs!

I promise if you quitchergripe'n I will try not to play so late at night and give myself extra time to give you screenies (although it would add an hour to my playtime to give as many as you :p )

seriously... it is nice to have the pics it is much easier to follow the action and make plans.

Thoughts and general ramblings...

We now have 20 cities.

The barbarians have 17 of them visable around the outside of their continent.

I think if we conquere the whole continent we will at best be even in land and cities to them.

I think someone mentioned this before but I will again.

It may be worth saving the remaining AI civ's in one city a piece:
Get a foothold on the Barb continent and gift cities to the AI and then boot them off our continent so their Capitols transfer over to the Barb continent. May not help much but they certainly will be no help to us if they are gone or down to one city.

Can a deal be made with the Mayans or Byz's for Mono? if so can we get it sold to the Nederlands for Invention?

Do we have enough defense in the SE of our continent that we could get a war started with either the Mayans or the BYZ? If we could do that now and buy the other into a war it might soften both of them up for an eventual conquest.
