SGOTM 11 - Who Dat?

Good turnset. Yea, Pyramids.

Not sure what to do about that religious picture. Zara is obviously going for Theo. Justinian + at least one other AI are going to be Hindu.

I'd like to see Delhi finish HG asap, Vinjay spam workboats, and Bombay I'm ok with either whipping granary or going straight into missionaries.

Currency->CS->Lit sounds fine to me.

Agree we should try trading for mono before switching civics.

Unsure what to do with the GS.

Great round Fluro.

We don't want to bulb Philo because we're afraid of accidentally spreading it to others, right? I predict Zara is going to go Christian anyway even if he has a few Taoist cities, so it's probably safe to do so now.

I'd be cautious about spamming Confucian missionaries if Zara founds Christianity and builds AP. We'll want to spread Christianity instead. Let's just do it in the cities that need the OR +25% building bonus.

By the way, when you guys say 'Literature,' you mean 'Aesthetics,' right?

P.S. I've updated the turnset summaries on Page One of this thread.

Literature means Aesthetics first obviously. But Literature is the goal obviously, Aesthetics is merely added cost (and some trade value). Edit: I guess we could build Parthenon, but only if we can find a city that will never generate a GP. Bombay has a lot of prophet points, and Vijay might build GLib.

Agreed on spreading confu too heavily. We want to catch christianity if Zara founds it. Mind you, it is not certain that he will be first..
But we need it in the capital asap.

If we can trade for monotheism, then we can probably bulb philo immediately. Otherwise, we might want to let confu autospread to Delhi first. I was also worried that Justin would catch it, but since he has caught another religion anyway, it does not matter. We probably need to convert a lot of AIs, at least all that have no holy cities, to the eventual dominant religion anyway.

Orb is up next, are you reading?

BTW, beestar, you are missing math in the tech list :) I believe it was finished in 1275BC.

I reckon we finish Currency then re-evaluate the tech situation.

One thing we should pay attention too is to make sure that we settle new cities just before we build HG, rather than just afterwards. This is still quite a few turns off, but it's worthwhile thinking about it. New cities at pop 3 only need to work one decent food square (seafood is quick to establish) and an OK food square, and work an Artist to pop borders. Once they reach size 4 they can 2-pop-whip something (e.g. granary).

Sorry Guys.

I'm having a busy time in the real world at the moment which will prevent me from playing until the 19th....

If someone else is ready then please skip my turn and I can pick up later.

ok, I'm the man with the plan!

The first thing to do is tech trading. I propose to just play one turn, pause, and then play out the rest of the set after that. I plan to play that one turn in around 24 hours.

Tech trade as per Fluro's suggestions: Zara - writing for poly, Justin - medi+PH for fishing+pottery. Then pause, but round 2 should net mono+IW+sailing. We should be able to trade alpha+math+medi+PH to Zara and math to Justin. Do we want to trade maths early to encourage useful teching from the AI? something to consider.

We have 8 warriors - is it safe to trade for Hunting or do we want more warriors just in case?

Tech: Currency

Vijay settler to clams city - begins WB, then Granary, working the cows stolen from Vijay (and marble as appropriate), and begins working clams when we get the WB (other options for buildings are lighthouse, aqueduct and courthouse). This city doesn't need a dedicated worker. The border pop can wait a little bit while we get the first WB out.

Vijay builds WBs, initially for exploring and also for the new cities as required. Vijay worker completes the quarry on the marble and moves to farm FPs. Vijay needs to grow from the current size 3 to around size 7 before we 2-pop whip (because there are 5 nice tiles to work). Vijay could use another worker to farm the FPs and chop/mine the Vijay hill.

Bombay settler to main GP farm site (finished next turn, then 5 turns moving). Need a worker or two there immediately on settling to improve the cows. Needs a road, but that can wait a little while. Artist to pop borders, begin Granary.

Bombay builds granary, and will need a worker to mine the plains hill. Should whip the granary whenever we switch to slavery. If we need to build more warriors they would come from Bombay.

Delhi needs to grow to work cottages. It's slow-building HGardens, to be completed in 37 turns. I think it's still worth working riverside farms to fuel growth up to size 9. Workers to complete the 3 cottages and then some to move off to assist other cities.

I'll stop my set if I meet any other AI.

What have I forgotten?

We have 8 warriors - is it safe to trade for Hunting or do we want more warriors just in case?

Until we settle a city with a camp resource, we will have no reason to get hunting. We should avoid it for now to keep the ability to make warriors for MPing more cities.

Bombay builds granary, and will need a worker to mine the plains hill. Should whip the granary whenever we switch to slavery. If we need to build more warriors they would come from Bombay.
It may be better to build a missionary for Delhi first, to get the 25%OR bonus and ability to build a set of monastary+temple. If there are chops to be made in Delhi (probably the best way to get HG soon enough), it would be nice to have the bonus first. Maybe if we finish granary by whipping first, we could do so with maximum overflow into a missionary. That actually sounds best to me.
Remember that we need caste to run artists for border pops, so we will want it by the turn we settle the GPfarm. Maybe it is best to go slavery now, and whip just before switching back to caste.

What have I forgotten?
The GS in Delhi. Should we bulb Philo immediately or wait for more confu autospread?

Ahh, the GS.

Philo doesn't really have any immediate benefits - not until we start pumping GPP in cities with our state religion. I think we should wait for another turnset for some Confucian autospread.

ok trades done. We have:
Poly
Fishing
Pottery

Potential next trades:
Zara: Alpha for Mono and Sailing
Justin: COL for IW. However this doesn't seem to net us much, and will accelerate Justin's tech rate. I think this trade can wait.

Zara is teching Priesthood, which is perhaps unexpected.

We need to decide if we are trying to slow down the AI tech pace as much as possible, or whether we want them to research specific techs faster. For example we can deliberately trade Zara PH and he'll likely get Theo faster.

[in bombay] finish granary by whipping first, we could do so with maximum overflow into a missionary.

Yep, I'll whip at around 40/90 hammers invested into the granary, but also time it to ensure that we can run an artist in the GP farm ASAP, as it needs a border pop to get grassland Pigs.

We'll need to consider where to put the first Missionary - Delhi isn't our highest hammer producing city (but of course if we are chopping hard then it will be for a few turns).
