BTW the end save's population spread shows Arabs only equal 3rd of the AI in pop

Perhaps the reason for the Arabs not being highest in pop despite your gifting is the gifted cities had no defence, so in feudalism they whipped.
Anyway, commiserations as you were on track for a decent date.
