SGOTM 12 - T'dr'duzk b'hazg t't

I think we are OK for now. Three things to note:

1) That's De Gaulle of the French. You can tell if you zoom out and look at the culture color.

Spoiler :

2) The warrior discovered whales. They are just outside of Sto-Lat's BFC, but will eventually be nice for the happy.

3) DeGualle can't see us yet - he still doesn't know we exist.

If we don't send the Sto-Helit warrior toward De Gaulle, he may not realize we are there for quite a while. In just 6 turns, we will have bronze working - and De Gaulle still won't know we are there.

Vassal states are off so we will be stuck with DeGaulle as a neighbour for the rest of the game looks like. We probably need to limit him to 1 city (not his capital) and be careful not to accidentally culture flip him out of the game.

Sweet! Just saw that UPS was going to deliver my new computer today!

Sorry for the hijack, and now we return to our regularly scheduled strategic planning...

I'm thinking we should consider producting a Barracks while we put both workers on hooking up the horses. That's a damn good production tile to bring online anyway, and a few chariots will give us some firepower. Building S-L at this moment seems rather rash to me, given the lack of defenses we'll have there. Might also need to put Archery in the build order, at least if we don't have Copper we can quickly hook up?

We could have an axe in Sto-Lat in short order. I think stopping our current, very high priority cow/gold worker actions to hook horses would be rash. I am in favor of going on to turn 42 bronze working using the current plan. Both workers will be "free" with cow/cow/gold complete on turn 42, the ideal time to switch gears for copper or horses as the case may be.

We should TAKE his capital and leave him a crap city.

City flipping from culture is turned OFF. Please read the introductory thread.

Yes I agree we should take his capital (hence why I said leave him with one city not his capital).

I missed the bit about no culture flipping. That's handy then.

It all depends on Copper. We are currently producing our best military unit, and we are working the best tiles. When we learn BW, we are at 3 pop, working 2 Cows & a Gold.

In our tests, no AI units left their own land for a long time. Move the warrior back to the S-L site.

EDIT: ninja's !!!!

I totally agree with this ^^

EDIT: I just noticed that the french founded Buddhism. Sweet!

Here is a new test save. I put De Gaulle in the correct location and moved Mao to the other continent.

Note that, despite the fact that I put De Gaulle there back in 3000 BC and let his borders pop, so he's seen us just as long as he has in the real game, his production decision was "settler" and not "stack of death."

I really don't think he has seen us yet. I'm reasonably sure (but not 100%) that the AI cannot foggaze the edges of visible territory. I think they only see the tiles that are in their actual visible area, so as long as we don't put units in the area he can see, we might be OK.

I edited the micro to change two things.

1) Do not explore warrior2 into tiles that we know De Gaulle can see. Instead, fortify in the forest 2W of Ankh-Morpork, our best defensive tile.

2) Added an order to cancel all worker actions on turn 41, to ensure that both workers are "available" when copper is discovered.

Two things we need to investigate before continuing:

1) Have the French founded a second city?

2) When did they found Buddhism? It's likely their city is actually 1W of the location I put it in the save, and they have had an additional border pop.

drlake, could you please post the BUFFY and CivFanatics logs?

I'd be cautious about settling S-L until we have something other than warriors for defense, because the cultural borders of S-L might be in his viewable area, and definitely will be once they pop.

Should I plan on playing out the turn set to 42 and BW after everyone has had a chance to mull this over, or will the next person (Trystero?) handle it?

I did post the Buffy Log, when I edited my original post to include the save. I'm not sure what other log you are referring to. EDIT: Here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9647767&postcount=431

From Brian's log:

Turn 18 (3280 BC) [21-Sep-2010 17:17:59]
100% Research: 10 per turn
0% Espionage: 4 per turn
0% Gold: 0 per turn, 0 in the bank

After End Turn:
Tech research finished: Animal Husbandry

Other Player Actions:
Buddhism founded in a distant land
Attitude Change: De Gaulle (France) towards Mao Zedong (China), from 'Cautious' to 'Pleased'

Drlake the other log is the one the GOTM submission page gives you when you upload. For me it was two posts long.
I've never played much against DeG so how'll he be as a neighbour if we get him to peace?

drlake, could you please post the CivFanatics log from the web page after you uploaded the file?

All our choices will depend on the location (or not) of copper.

edit - thanks for editing your original post to include the BUFFY log.

I don't have time to do it now, must go to work, so much later tonight I can try to figure out the exact culture of De Gaulle's capital, and also examine the logs and diplomacy screens to see if he has already founded a second city.

We should be able to determine exactly when each of his border pops occurred and the location of his capital.

Chris BW isn't in yet. If you look at the screenie it's 5 turns away.

Yes, I'm well aware of that, it's why Neil and I are advocating sticking to the plan until turn 42, when we have Bronze Working and know where the copper is.

Ok I thought you wanted the current one, sorry bout the crossed wires.
