The only sale I'm wondering about is Madrid's market. Will it maintain happiness?

As Beorn said have that extra unit is a pretty big deal. My assumption is The Zoo can crank it out pretty quick and we don't need an enormous amount of new units.
 
I would really build the pentagon in the Zoo, it's very fast and 4 cav armies are so much better against rifles, when we fight Arabia.
I wonder why you wouldn't want to build it.
Zimbabwe doesn't have much defenders inside I assume since they came out with plenty of units before

I wouldn't sell libraries or markets, they cost nothing much. Wait until we have the 2 Zulu cities to judge unit support as well
 
Its turn 5 - 1200 AD and we have combustion. Replaceable parts nowhere to be found so we can't start mass production. I plan to start flight. I'll finish up tomorrow morning - thought I would pause for your thoughts and get some sleep.
We are at 750 beakers and can finish flight in 10 or repl parts in 8.

Zulu are dead. Made peace with Russia and signed ROP. Landing units in Russian territory will allow a quick take of a couple Arab cities from a fairly defendable position - wish I had more rifles. Currently 21 units in Russian territory on the border (8 more coming from Zululand) and another army in German territory on the border - this one will be used to cut their supply of saltpeter.

did not sell any of the stuff you guys questioned - Whomp you are probably right about the market. I have disbanded a few med inf replacing them with cavs and joined a few workers.
 
Bummer, these AI's are quite useless. Good move on Russia, IIRC they had a few mountinas near the border, which are probably roaded at this point.

I would go for flight and hope the AI gets Rep Parts by the time we finish it.

So, remember 10 turns flight + around 16-18 turns for the other 2 techs. Don't forget to start a prebuild on time.

By the way, how many shields is the palace now with 2 more cities?
 
It does appear we are up to the 900 shield palace. I think FP is making enough shields we don't need the prebuild yet, especially since we are not getting flight from the AI.

We are going ahead on flight

In turn 5 I decided I could not stand the Ottoman spear and DOW them to clean up the spears and leader fish. It worked as I got another MGL in turn 6.

On the IBT of turn 5 Arabs and Celts signed MPP. I regret not starting the war that turn. I was giving our ships one more turn of unhindered movements and praying they would finish a tech

In turn 6 (1210 AD) I started the diplomatic move against Arabs. I DOW them, then:
- sign in Russia giving industrialization and getting 6 gold
- sign in Greece giving espionage getting 5 gold and 1 gpt
- sign in Babs giving nationalism getting 5 gold
- sign in France giving refining getting 55 gold

Could not sign in Persia into MA vs Arabs "they would never accept such a deal". Same with Celts

On the IBT Persia and Celts both DOW Greece and Russia. A few Arab cavs attack Russia's city. If it should fall our stack would be in Arab territory and the Persians would no doubt DOW us.

Turn 7 1220 AD
Here is where I stop. Persia still will not MA with us vs Arabs. I am not sure what to do. If you want to pass the turn to the next player that is fine but I wanted a consult before signing us up against the Persians at this early point. We only have about 8 units in our Egyptian holdings and I would not want to lose them.

If we choose to go against Persia, I wold build a fortification behind the city (not on coal where rifle is now) and I would put a forest in the tiles on the border to slow their units. and get some units over there. Maybe a rifle army or cav army.

the prebuild is already 900shields, that's great news, I assume 6 Arab cities will be enough.

I would move in to attack Arabia and then just make sure Egypt is safe and go for peace with Persia as soon as we can. Should be ok with all th armies we have. A rifle army or Cav army should do the job. As long as France is actually fighting on our side, everything should be fine.
 
Were you already at war with Arabia when you tried signing? Usually civs are unwilling to negociate when both are at peace, but always will be buyable into a war when you don't start it with the MA. Didn't read that line :shake:

Started the necessary preparations for war with Persia on turn 8

Turn 9 - Start the invasion of Arabs and take Salamanca. It cost a few cavs but it is done. Move the rest of the stack next to Niagara Falls. Pillage Arab saltpeter so they are not making any more cavs.

Turn 10 - Took Niagara Falls.
I took two rifles out of Beijing with a cav army this turn.

Ottomans are ready for peace - I'll leave it to the next player. France, Greece and Russia now have per turn deals avail. The France deal we need since we ended a two lux per turn deal with them last turn. Even with the France deal we are going to face a deficit that will require reducing spending on science after 10-15 turns.

I did not start the palace - I think we can finish it in 20 and we have at least 20 to go. Maybe now is the time to start the prebuild.

I'll need to make pretty quick work of the Arabs too so we can reverse the tables on the Persians.
 
From this point you shouldn't need more than 4 cities, if we already are at 900. Whenever you reach 1000, I suggest suing for peace and play happy puppy for whatever is left of the game - with every civ out there.
 
I don't think we can. We have MA's versus the Arabs.
 
Does reputation hurt our diplo chances? If it's just attitudes, can't we pull it off with a broken rep?
 
Won't we have to buy in our votes? That would mean gpt in some instances I'd think especially with the scientifics that we gift up.
 
lurker's comment: You probably already know this, but if you want to risk MPPs, they really can be the icing on getting the AIs to like you.

I've never noticed this. Does the cost of the palace increase once you actually start building it?

Just crush the Arabs then we can put on our halo until just before the vote. :) With all the culture the Arabs have built up I think the only way we can guarantee keeping the cities is if they are dead - oh and 1 less civ that we betrayed that could vote for Persia.

You have 6-8 slaves to start rail connecting the Arab cities, some rifles that would already be in the cities if the Russians had not filled up the short passages, and you can lead with offense most of the way and should only need defense at the front line city. No cavs attacked on the IBT before turn 10 either. Counting the one cav you can see, I have only seen about 4 cavs total so far. To my surprise the AI has actually been using some naval landings against each other so don't be suprised if the Arabs try to land units near Salamanca.

It will be interesting if an AI can get one of the Arab cities.

The Persians - so far I have knocked out about four cavs there and they are bringing rifles and immortals also. The forest I planted worked great as the cav stack sat undefended one tile away from the city. Not a big stack so far and the fortification will be done next turn. I would expect to take some losses from Persian frigates, at least until we get a couple destroyers.

And in 5 turns we can build a few bombers
 
MPP's are nice for gaining votes, but the longer we hold off for them, the better off we are.

About flips, do check the city tab on your civassist, it could be surprisingly low flip chances you see there. But we can't be too careful with so much to lose right now.

I don't know actually but we have to build it this set.
