SGOTM 16 - Fifth Element

I need some clarification. It says, "You fulfil the requirements for TWO victory conditions, at least one of which is NOT Conquest or Domination. (For example, your spaceship arrives on Alpha Centauri the same turn you get Domination, that’s two. If you achieve domination on the same turn as conquest victory, then you need one more victory condition to fulfil this condition. Understood?"

No, I'm not sure I do understand. And if I've been under a wrong impression, then things might be way different than we think. It say specifically:

1) You fulfill the requirements for TWO victory conditions.
2) One of which is NOT Conquest or Domination.

It does not say they have to be on the same turn. The example implies that, but doesn't make it a rule. AlanH then says, "The objective calls for you to meet the conditions for two VCs by the time you make your final save."

Final save, not winning save. What if we'd beelined an AP win, then dominated the world? Maybe someone did... :(

The final save must be on the turn after the first win. So we have one turn wiggle room. We we see the victory screen we have one turn to settle cities and have enough for a domination.

As for the vote. I think we are on track. You decide what to vote on on turn 263. On turn 264 you cast your vote and on turn 265 you win.

I would like to have some more wiggle room for the vote. You must be below vote requirement on turn 263 and 264. and we can liberate Beijing on turn 263. Because if we vassal him before turn 264 we loose.

We are on track, as Folket said.
Why not go with the original and safe plan? Forget vassaling Qin, just raze some cities and put the settlers in position. Capitulation mechanics are very unreliable, and conquering two cities on turn 264 is a little bit risky too.

Gergovia culture bombs: fine.

Let me clarify what I said.

Once we are announced winner we may not click end turn again.

The problem is that Folket is wrong. You cast your vote right after you choose the option to vote, before you begin your turn on turn 263. Provided is 263. My qestion was: is 263??? i think so, but i need to be sure.
Spoiler :
Assuming is turn 263:
after you hit enter on 262 you wait for the AI to complete 262, then 263 begins with the vote to choose.
As soon as you choose the vote, another pop up appears in the top right corner asking for your vote (yes/no/abstain or in the case of Diplo candidate A/candidate B/abstain)
then you begin your turn with the usual buildings to choose and so on
the following turn, when the AIs are done with the 263 (and in this case cast their votes) you got the result, which can be the victory screen if you've won by Diplo. I'm 100% sure of this, so move on

The problem is that by then we can't have 2 LCs and a 3rd Corp. The best we can have is 1 LC and the 3rd Corp if we use a GA for that.

I must add that planting enough cities to reach the domination will put us over the threshold for the Diplo victory unless we liberate some city or create a new Vassal by giving away all the cities on the other continent. Can be an option, but it lowers the Dom limit by 2%, so we must carefully evaluate this.

I need some clarification.

Usually you submit a save right after the victory screen, doing nothing but click the "play one more turn" and save.

This time, since we're requested to fulfill 2 VCs, you got time to fulfill the 2nd before you hit enter in the same turn you would have usually saved for submission. In other words, instead to click the "play one more turn" and save, you click the "play one more turn", play your game to achieve any objective you have not yet fulfilled and save.

Our problem is that we were pretty well set up for turn 265, but we can be screwed if it's turn 264. We can win with 2 VCs in the same turn, but we can't have 2 LCs and a 3rd Corp. Unless i'm wrong.

The F8 screen lies.
It's a 6 turn cycle 5-4-3-2-1-0, so on t263 it will show "0 turns to next vote" but the vote won't be until t264.

I'll take it for good. Gonna play accordingly in few hours. Just let me revise my plan.

In case you're wrong, England is not too faraway... but probably not even Mars

OK, you was right :goodjob:

The parts in red tell you all you need to know. The strange thing was that Qin did not voted for us, probably because he was just vassalized. I played cat and mouse with his cities and mistakenly took one (used a tank istead of a gunship), but i remedied gifting an useless city to Hammu. FT2 was almost researched and Ger popped a useless GA on the last turn. Here are the saves of the turn before victory and of the 1775 which i submitted but will not show on the server. The Victory Screen was for Diplo, but the alerts tell us that we're the World Dominators too.

Great luck with GAs, despite all your efforts :)

A great job of anyone here!
I must admit i was sceptic in more than one decision.
Congrats to all of us, hoping to team again for next one.

Now off to spy the other threads.

:band::woohoo::hatsoff::clap:

Great Job, Blubmuz, and great job, team!

It was a great experience for me to play in an SGOTM. We might even make it into the first half of teams.

Now I'm too off to spy on the others.

EDIT: @Blub: did you upload the save? I can't see it yet on progress&results. Are you sure it's safe to read other threads?

Yes, i did. You can't see it on the progress&results because the final save is shown only when the game is finished.
That's why i posted it above.

I hope to finish on the podium unless someone invents something :crazyeye:.

We could have won on turn 264, we met all the objectives by then. Hindsight...

Well done, Blubmuz!

So it looks like we are in the middle. 5th place most likely. We are both in the last and first half of the teams :D

Aside PD and US which i know have beaten us, who else?

Well done on the finish guys. Yep you look good for fifth. Every team has so far completed all the objectives from what I have seen.

3rd place was quite close this game. 9 turns less would of got you a laurel. ;) US were only 3 turns off 3rd. (Edit PR got third if kauk finish 2nd.) Visit PD thread for the master class on culture.

After all Fifth place for Fifth element looks good :p

I will try to read all teams that did better than us, maybe the others too, I'm sure there will be many things to learn :bounce:

So we are cleared for reading the other threads now?

Great job everyone.

I had a great time playing and I hope to stay and do better next time.

Congratulations, great game

Damn... i misread something on the PR thread, they finished in 1740. Beaten by PR... shame :)

Don't worry Gumbolt, i dont' hate you for that.
