SGOTM 16 - Fifth Element

Finally a useful WW. So we can switch civics at wish.
About the war, i think that take Nippur is almost mandatory or we'll suffer and probably lose Babylon. Then if Hammu won't capitulate we must aim at Akkad, but it will not be easy with all those cannons.

I think that the right moment to raise the culture slider is now. Flight is due in 1 anyway.

Why do we have all those scientists hired? Science bombs? :)

Those are very good news.
After Flight is ready, we should count turns, and find out whether MM or Industrialism should come next. We should also start building our bombers and at least 5 airports so we have the infra and the air support ready for the tanks. Airports should go in cities that produce the tanks later (at 1 tank/turn) because otherwise we would lose a turn when moving the tank to the airport city.

Getting some settlers out if we go for MM first is also a good idea.

BTW did we get the broadcast towers from Eiffel, or we only get them after MM?

Good news!
After re-MMing the cities (mostly firing scientists, pressing the culture slider), and pressing enter, Hammy will capitulate. No need to capture further cities from him.

I don't see a reason not to take it - Babylon and Dur-K can't flip back (although they can have individual revolts), and we automatically get the city radius taking precedence over Hammy's tiles, and we could use the happiness and corporate resources.

Yes, we get the broadcast towers, even without MM. I'll stop and count the turns, after I accept Hammy's capitulation and micro- our cities.

Yes, the time to build bombers, etc. is now.

Here's the latest save:

There are 111416 beakers left to research, including Mass Media.

we make a little under 4k visible beakers/turn, while we actually build stuff. That will go up when we're not. I think we can assume we've got about 21 or 22 turns of research left. (there's a 1.2* multiplier on our beakers)

I'd better formally plan out the micromanagement for the great person farming now.

Mass Media vs Industrialism:
We have enough useful stuff to build at the moment, other than tanks (Airports, Bombers, Settlers, etc).
I'd prefer to get the happiness of Hollywood sooner, instead of obsoleting Ivory.
(MM is a 1 turn tech; Industrialism 2 turns).

Well played so far!

I'm convinced, MM should come first.

Hammu has a rice, we should trade for it.

In China, we should hold on to Xian and Chengdu for
-ease of bombardment
-2 sushi resources
-keep Babylonian culture at bay (IIRC vassal land counts for 1/2 tiles, right?)

Some other chinese cities should also be kept so we don't need that many settlers, but we need to make sure to stay under Dom limit.

In the beginning of chinese war, we could use 3 set (3*4) bombers, except first turn, where we can only bombard from Mari and Sippar.

I'm happy to see that culture situation looks much better. The new sushi resources help a lot. (I forgot them in my calculations...)

Is it possible we may save a turn by having Hammurabi tech something for us?

I guess the choice would be superconductor or Mass media. If he would be able to tech mass media in four turns I think we should make him.

Definitely not Mass Media. The last thing we want is him building the UN.
The other techs are probably too expensive, but I'll have a look at it anyway.

Yes, him building the UN would be horrible. But will we not allways have one turn before he starts building it? Or do we just want to avoid the chance that he pops a great engineer and finishes it before us.

About vassals: IIRC our cities will have their full BFC. Correct?
Then, i remember that long time ago i asked a vassal to research a tech. He did, but after that it was in red because it was a monopoly.

War with China will be fought in 2 sets or will be just a final rush?

Here's the GPP plan (spreadsheet attached).
We will pop 10 great people, all high-odds to be an artist (two of them 100% certain, the rest in the 90s).
The cities are in their GP-pop order. That is, if two or more cities go over the threshold on the same turn, the leftmost one will pop its GP, and the others will keep going.
The GA column indicates whether there is a golden age going on - I intend to start it on turn 251.

Yes, we get the full BFC when our vassal would otherwise own the tile.

We need all our sushi trades up to turn 254 or so.
We're free to invade China in the 10 or so turns after that before the end.

Good! It looks like we won't even need to starve our cities badly.

Green light from me. (Don't forget the rice trade!)

Last I looked we would loose a resource or risk that Babylon denies us. I would rather not take that risk.

Stone, of course. That is a great trade.

That is really good work on the excel sheet.

Did you manually enter all those number? Ouch.

What would be the difference if you build a cathedral in Gergovia. It seems to be the last city to get a GP anyway so it can be delayed a turn. But if our mind is set at 265 we should go for it.

Would UN +1 trade route make any difference to our tech rate?

Well, the GPP each turn are calculated automatically, but the rest I had to enter.

Gergovia won't be delayed by inserting a Cathedral in front of the supermarket. That city hardly needs to starve at all.

I'll want to hold on to the stone, and trade ~10gpt for the rice instead, to speed up cathedrals in the two legendary cities.

Any news? I would love for us to finish a bit sooner so I can go and read other team's threads... :eekdance:

But of course take your time, there is no rush. Having better finish date is more important ;)

I'll play it in the morning - I'm just fiddling with where I want to leave the galleons and frigates.

Let us insert the cathedral then. It might help against bad luck with GPs.
