save attached (not uploaded yet) for better fog gazing.

So what's next? Settler 1NW I presume?

That's an awful lot of forest near our start. And there's been some editing near the start as well, given the river. I'll leave the foggazing for Ororo, he's got a better eye for that then me, but for some reason I've got some doubts about moving the settler (probably the editing of the starting position has something to do with it). I'm going to sleep on it for a night.

It does indeed look like flood plain to SW. If we're not going to SIP I'd move settler W to keep corn in potential BFC.

Sorry for the delay - I didn't feel too well (some sort of stomachache) but it's better now. Gonna do some serious foggazing now.

Two types of forest near the start also might indicate some alterations by the mapmaker... Im leaning towards SIP right now, as the east is so bleak... Did we consider moving SE with the settler, to grab the fish and corn in the BFC? There doesnt seem to be much of interest to the east to warrant a fish city lateron.

I'm seriously tempted to SIP.
in fact, land seem horible at this place. The best thing we have is forests. well, lets try to keep them and gain 1 turn.

P = plains
G = grassland
C = coast
PF = plains forest
FP = flood plain
PFH = plains forest hill

That's a lot of brown tiles in the fog.

Anyway, here's what I would do:
Move settler 1W, next turn move warrior 1 NE

The tiles at SIP are not stellar. There might be something useful in the fog to the West, but we don't know until we move or settle. If we move 1W we can either settle there next turn, move back or move W or NW (the latter two options freeing the corn for the fish city if the warrior doesn't find anything else for the fish city).
Also, moving West gives us 1FP in the first nine tiles, meaning we can work a 3F/1C tile from the start.

I'm not in favor of moving east, as we lack fishing.

Bwgh, I always reroll these kinds of starts. I guess that's not an option here. I guess I'd go for 1W, though the whole area seems sub-par.

My exact thinking. Which is the reason why I don't like SiP. Moving Settler 1W is our best bet. At worst, we lose 1 turn. At best, we gain 2 floodplains + resource. It's a shame I can't distinquish the tile marked by "?" it would help a lot.

As for warrior move next turn, I would personally move him 1N, to se what we are moving away from (the tile 1N of Corn). We won't skip any coastal tile if we then move 1NE.

First just move Settler 1W...

Also...can I change my Field of View or is that counted as the "flying camera trick"?

Ok, first settler

I'm 99,9% sure you can just alter your field of view with the slider top-right. The forbidden flying camera exploit needs a change in the .ini file I believe.

Cool, thanks. I obviously don't want to do anything illegal even if it's done unintentionally...

Here you go. Settle where we are now? Very nice amount of riverside tiles! Some PH for production. I think moving the settler onto a PH for an accelerated production start is too much of a gamble without seeing any food there...

For the sake of completeness moving warrior N to see what's north of corn is worth doing before we decide where to settle. Unless something tasty turns up there I'd settle where settler is now.
