SGOTM 16 - Maple Sporks

Agree with pigswill to send warrior 1N before we settle. Use Paris for construction.

Here's a test save updated with the moves. In the test save Hammurabi is an AI, should I try to swap him out for someone else?
Wait till I do the end of turn and the warrior move later tonight. From the settling of the AI we (not me) might be able to infer some more clever info about our opponents.

Preliminary Pre Play Plan for turnset 1:
play until: turn 20/BW is in/something unexpected happens?
  • Settle Paris where the settler is now
  • 1st build worker, 2nd build warrior
  • 1st tech mining, 2nd tech BW, unless settling reveals livestock in BFC, then AH first
  • Warrior scouts anti-clockwise with a relatively wide circle around Paris, taking into account the quick creative first border extension
  • Keep warrior alive: scout cautiously, choosing forest cover over undefended visibility
  • Make note of appearance of animals and human barbs
  • make note of direction of AI exploring units
  • Set EP to +1 for first civ we meet

please comment

Sounds good. Maybe play up to BW unless something really interesting happens before then.

Demo's look nice. Seems liek there is only one civ with a coastal capital so we have a great shot at GLH...
85% approval means there is a CHAR leader out there.
GNP looks confusing...maybe Sengir can derive some data from it?
Please post a T3 demo's screen so we can estimate the number of CRE civs.
Other than that I'm fine with your PPP.

Question 1: If our warrior gains experience, which promotions do we choose? I'd say woodsman line for extra survivability + eventually double movement in forest.
Which reminds me...

Question 2: Do we want to steal a worker if we run into someone's border? I presume not, but it's a possibility.

I'd settle where we are now as well. I'll try to do some more calculations later today/tonight, don't have time for it right now.

I'd prefer you to play until the Worker is in, so that we can determine the order of improvements. Other then that, I agree with the plan.

On Ororo's questions:
1) I'd go for Woodsman
2) No worker steal.

A good point from Sengir about pausing and posting after worker.

Re worker steal: it depends which AI it is (in the unlikely event that the opportunity comes up this early). This would definitely be an occasion to pause and post before action.

So, we already knew this:
A)
2 AI's with the Wheel
3 AI's with Mining
1 AI with nothing

or B)
3 AI's with the Wheel
1 AI with mining
2 AI's with nothing.

And now we know there's either 1 or 2 Charismatic leaders (no more otherwise the average would be 84%, it's always rounded down, that's why 2 Cha leaders is possible)

Life expectancy (Exp) is too bit harder to calculate, as there are outside influences: FP's, Forests and fresh water. Here are the rules however

Base health is 2
Base unhealth is 1
Fresh water is +2 health;
Exp is +2 health;
Forest is +.5 health
FP is +.4 unhealth
Jungle is +.25 unhealth (but not in effect because of starting sites)
The whole BFC is counted so there's 21 tiles to calculate with.
Formula is: Health / (Health+Unhealth) * 100 (round down)

Next up: starting locations:
2AI's have 7 landtiles/2water tiles; the others have 9 landtiles.
That doesn't mean those 2 are coastal though, as they can have two lake tiles instead, but it is very likely they are coastal. The other four are landlocked.

Base GNP is 16 (1 default beaker; 1 city tile; 14 palace). At least 1 AI is not working commerce tiles; at least 1 AI has 20 commerce, while the other four have an average of 16 (meaning they can all have 18 commerce, or 2 have 20 and 2 have 16, or whatever combination you like).
For the 20 there's 1 possibility IIRC: a creative leader (+2 for the culture) + a 2 commerce tile (so not Fin, otherwise he couldn't have a 2 commerce tile). The 2 commerce tile is either a lake/coastal tile or a riverside resource.
The 16 means no commerce at all, about the others it is hard to tell. The average of 18 does suggest some Cre/Fin, otherwise all four should have a two commerce tile (therefor no Fin, and all a riverside resource/lake/coastal)

Now, the interesting part is the MFG: there's no AI that's working a tile with a hammer. They are all working a 2 or 3 food tile though (1 is working 2f; 1 is working 3, the rest either 2 or 3)

The no-commerce dude is likely to be working a three food tile; the rest is too hard to tell.

That's all for now; I might crack my head on the life-expectancy later if I feel so inclined, though I doubt it will matter a lot.

Technically we could have 5 landlocked AIs (2 with a lake in inner circle which ain't that rare) and 1 coastal (3*9 +2*8 + 1*7). Time will tell.

Yeah, that's right, I missed that.

New version (changed in Italics), I hope to play the first part tonight if that's all right

Preliminary Pre Play Plan for turnset 1:
play until: BW, with intermediary stop at worker finished
  • Settle Paris where the settler is now
  • Work floodplain for 3F1C, even after border expansion
  • 1st build worker, 2nd build warrior
  • 1st tech mining, 2nd tech BW, unless settling reveals livestock in BFC, then AH first

  • Make note of appearance of animals and human barbs
  • make note of direction of AI exploring units
  • Set EP to +1 for first civ we meet
  • post a T3 demographics screen

Looks good to me.

Looks great. Good luck and report with a Copper in our BFC :D

Plan sounds good, but if you are going to tech AH before BW, perhaps stop after teching AH?

I could bet there is none ^^
never thrust a mapmaker they say :p

and if we don't have copper, horses will become so important if we have to wait until iron to have armies...

but first (if there is no animal in the BFC) BW in needed to cut some trees...
