SGOTM 16 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

City No 6. Where to settle???
Do we want to Settle any more cities before we get Alphabet? Our Science rate is pretty low right now; we can only maintain 20% Science. We could build Settlers and have them in place ready to go once we get Alphabet, but that adds to the unit maintenance cost. :dunno:

If we do settle a 6th city, I think there are 2 options. For a Blocking City, I'd say it's either the Pigs/Gems/Clams site (formally known as 5, but I guess we should call that 6 now), or the Pigs/2 Gems site (6A?). I'd prefer 6A based on future potential, but acknowledge, as most have pointed out, that it would be virtually useless until we get Iron Working. So I won't scream too loud if everyone wanted to go we site 6.

If we wanted a 6th City that could be more productive right away, I'd say put it on the forested grass hill 2SE + 1S of Paris that claims both the Fish & the Clams (let's call that 6C?). If we go there, we should chop that forest into the Pyramids before founding.

Galley from Orleans I would prefer a tireme or wb for exploring. Tireme more likely to survive against barb galleys.
Agree. Do we need to consider some Triremes to protect our fishing nets?

I like 6, get it growing, IW is not that far away now.

I like Trireme for exploring.

On taking Mids from Brennus, yes, but it would totally suck if someone else built them.

Sorry that my weekend absence turned into a whole week. Stupid real life...

My settling vote is pig/clams/gems.

Agree on Trireme for first exploring boat. Note that there is a coast path 3NW of the Orleans island, Id send it there first:

Orleans. Both forest hills are pre mined. Not overkeen on going for the Colossus atm here but if we have nothing better to build?? Saying that an exploring wb from here would be a good idea. The little 1 tile island to the West gives access to another island (could well be an iceball). Plus more lands to the west to explore.

I had mentioned that island/land... ;)

So looks like the pig/clam/gem site seems favourite. Think that will be it for a little while for cities.

As mentioned there are some barb workers in the city so it might be an idea to get a chariot somewhere in the vicinity and see if we can steal one if it comes outside?

Are we planning on raising the Barb city?

We could take the workers when we burn it.;)

Is it worth KEEPING?

Personally I would raise it and re-settle on the wine tile. Luckily its on flat land which makes it easier to take but with only chariots we would probably need 5 or 6 depending on the RNG.

Looking at the game I do think we should aim to target Brennus asap. To late for a HA attack but if we don't have iron a HA/Cat should be easy on Emperor. Saying that cat anything even chariots would work.

For the raze gold from the barb city it might be a good idea to get some barracks -chariots built.

First part of the turnset played.
And stopping with some bad news. So we need to decide on the next bit.

Everything went according to plan, except it was a bit difficult to get the barb warrior to attack.
But then someone built the Pyramids...
So what should we focus on in Paris?
My suggestion is to hire two scientists and build a barrack, and start arming for our war with Brennus.

Looks like Ram built the Mids. So lets find his borders and perhaps he will be a likely target for us instead if he is near enough?

Barracks sounds good in Paris though run scientists and farm some of its grasslands.

Lyons shoud use one of its scientists on a fp cottage instead and when it grows have 2 scientists again. Good idea to cottage another fp as well there.

At least we get some fail gold from the Mids which will help getting alpha. Once alpha in we need a spy (or 2) asap.

Ram also built Temple of Artemis, and completed it same turn as Pyramids!

In Paris, wouldn't we get a bit more failure gold if we moved the citizen working the Corn 2E to the new Plains Hill Mine 2W? It would starve Paris for 1 turn, but might be worth that for a bit more failure gold.

Barracks + 2 Scientists in Paris sounds good to me.

Ramesses built the Mids!

We must find him.;)

I don't believe you get fail gold for the hammers this turn. We should switch the build in Paris immediately IMO.

^plus Hunting (prerequisite for Archery), we don't have that yet. Hopefully we can trade for some of those.

Even though we technically do not need Corn, should we consider trading Fish to Brennus for Corn to get some +Attitude points with him? Could always cancel it after we get our own Corn roaded & see if Brennus has anything we can get via trade.

Must find Ramesses. :ar15:

How do we plan to conduct this war? Swords/catapults (after stealing IW and hoping we have iron) or Horse Archers?? I think the later, we only need HBR and Archery after Alphabet...

With most of Brennus's cities having duns thats why I think we need construction. I think the time we could have gone with HA's alone has gone so to cut our losses def neeed cats. Hopefully we will have iron somewhere. :)

Pyramids are nice but given that Ram isn't close (wherever he is) I'm not convinced going far for war is good idea. I'm really not sure what grand plan should be, maybe I will be more inspired in a day.

Cuman - although I agree that 1S is a better spot, I would be in favor of keeping it since it will be at least size 4 when we capture.

Played the last part of my turnset.

Started barracks in Paris, and moved workers to do other work instead of prechopping.

Alphabet is in, and there are some tech trades available, and Brennus has Iron Working, so let's get a spy down there :-)

No more barbs showed up, and we found Ramesses a good way away.

Tech is set to Mathematics, with no beakers invested.

And we got our first goal, Blazing :-)

Handing it over to Grifftavian.

Brilliant stuff.

Not only did Ramesses found Confucianism, he also produced a GProphet that same turn and built the Kong Miao.

I believe it is absolutely inevitable that we will go to war with Ram at some point, so we might as well do it soon while he has fewer cities. Tech Maths > Construction while stealing IW should do the trick. Though it would be interesting to investigate how quickly we could tech Archery > HBR and have an army of HAs at his door. HAs save over 10 turns in travel time alone, probably another 10 turns by way of cheaper tech.
Consider 2 scenarios: 10 Horse Archers on T125 or 5 swords/5 cats on T145?

Tech trades - I suggest we trade out writing to Ram for something. Poly is higher value but Hunting is a tech that we desire to build deer camps.

OB with Ram right now should get our chariot through to meet AI on the other side. Do we have a second exploring chariot nearby that could map out Ram's lands for us?

PS - I'm back from holiday.
