SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

haha thanks. I am procrastinating so much unfortunately, but don't think I could procrastinate to the extent of testing out variants and creating a ppp based on trial and error!

In the instance I do poorly on my test, my mother will have killed me anyway  So I wouldn't be able to post ;)

Perhaps a good point to talk about some of the long-term plans and stir up some strategic thinking.

I threw out a 1700AD (T250) completion date. Do folks feel this would be about right or too late?

Interesting HOF game.

Emperor, Norm Speed, Big and Small, Khmer, Space Victory, 1685AD
3 Corps, 3 holy cities (1 shrine), 2 turns to Future Tech

How about some proposed date for the required space techs:

Rocketry
Plastics
Computers
Superconductors
Satellites
Robotics
Composites
Laser
Fiber Optics
Fusion
Genetics
Ecology

Revent proposed the following for GPs. How about target dates for each to shoot for?

-GM (Generated)
-GA (Music)
-GS (Academy)
-GS (Found Taoism)
-GS (Bulb Edu)
-GS (Bulb Lib, Might not be possible)
-GM (Economics hopefully for Sushi)
-GS (Physics)
-GSpy (Communism)
-GEngineer (Fusion)

PS. Forgot to mention - Good Turnset Trystero:goodjob:

That's is an interesting game. Built the GLH and Oracle by turn 75, and got CS from the Oracle.

Edit: It was a 2 gold/wet corn start, which probably helped with research just a little.

It also had a maximum 10 opponents, all reachable by galley.
So tech trades and trades routes would have been crazy.

We have to assume kcd has designed us a map that will be interesting into the late game. Maybe Mansa and a bunch of other financial civs are in the other hemisphere, with Gold & Gems galore. HoF games will be hard to compare to. This also means that we should not assume we will even win the Lib race, let alone get all the free great people.

Having said all of that, this is essentially a space race game, which we know how to play. It is all about beakers right up until near the end, where we then need Hammers and/or Culture.

Have alook at the Ducks victory in SGOTM 12, they built GLH and leveraged it to its full extent. More than half their commerce came from trade routes.
Obviously, we have already built it, but we now need to leverage it. We need to meet as many AI as soon as possible. The earlier we have trade routes with the other hemisphere, the earlier we turbo our economy, and can afford to eliminate our initial trading partners.

As we get control of a large amount of cities, maybe even the whole hemisphere, we will be looking to turn the main source of beakers from instead of trade routes to specialists and cottages.

Personally, I think a date later than 1800ad will win this.

Where are we sending that settler by the way?

2S of its current position or 2S1E?

What does it mean by worker move to GHF?

The settler is for the "Clams city" site. I placed a sign in the real save to indicate the relevant tile. (edit: see the 5th screenshot in this post.)

Be careful because of the barb in the area. I am hoping it will follow or try to attack our warrior to the west on the plains hill forest tile.

I've modified the test save to put the settler in the correct position and the warrior in the correct position and added the barb warrior and am carrying on with that!

What are your guys opinions on building the pyramids? We shall have it by turn 101 in the GLH city if we do try for it. If not, I can put it in the queue for fail gold.

Fair enough. I'm trying to figure out things with that barb warrior. If that barb warrior moves 1N, I will have to move our warrior 1NE. But if the barb warrior kills our warrior, we are screwed and I'll have to emergency whip a chariot in the capital which can jeopardise our oracle plans. The last thing we want is RNG screwing us over and getting a worker killed or even commerce razed.

All the moves for turn 72 have been completed at this point. As long as we are comfortable with the research path and the current builds (which I think we are). You could end the turn, see where the barb moves, and save. Then we could discuss how to proceed before you actually move any units.

indeed.

The barb should be sorted if that happens. The woody 2 warrior can get there and kill it anyway so no rush.

Maybe there are some better mathematicians here than me/people who can read the actual game more, but is it possible to one turn the oracle? I'm trying to optimise all worker improvements around that and in the test game, so far, I can one turn it but for that, there's an overflow from the previous build of I think 20 or 22 and I JUST about one turn it (need to change from food tile to plains just to get 150 hammers). For that, 3 forests got chopped on the same turn, however, I'm trying to figure out how to chop out the 4th forest as well without sacrificing our worker movements they are currently held up with.

Sorry for all the questions, but I've never had to do all this before.

Edit: Also, what would your view be on 3 workers being idle for one turn if it allowed TO to be built in one turn?

EDIT: It's actually one worker idle for 2 turns (you guys can suggest a change providing he is back on the roaded forest by the time we need to chop the oracle) and one worker is idle for one turn.

1. Technologies
Mysticism, Meditation, Priesthood

2. Dealing with AIs
N/A (I think?)

3. City placement and builds - mostly in the beginning
Paris: Lighthouse, Workboat, Chariots*, The Oracle
GP Farm: Finish Worker, Pyramids
Production: Workboat, Granary, Lighthouse
Commerce: Warrior
Settler for Clams site->Found Lyons: Granary

4. General micro
Whip granary in production to get overflow into lighthouse.
Whip chariot into oracle to get max overfow.
PLEASE read spreadsheet for worker movements. They're not particularly simple to follow and took me a lot of trial and error to maximise success of TO.
PF 1= 2W of Paris
PF 2= 1W of Paris
PF 3= 1N2E of Paris

5. Civics and religion
N/A

6.War - if applicable
N/A

7. Bigger picture
Use Oracle to get Metal Casting, try for Colossus in capital OR in GP farm to get merchant out faster.
Settle (or maybe Bulb) with GM
Key target is to get Astro ASAP to make most of GLH coastal TR's. Possibly even more important than Lib.
Spam coastal cities
Workboat at south continue exploring
Workboat newly built in production shall start exploring the west
Chariot(s) shall start exploring south near Brennus.
Post turnset idea: 2 pop whip a forge in capital overflow into worker and let that build while whip unhappiness is sorted.
Commerce needs cottages around it now so extra worker from above would be useful.

Kill everyone on our continent and most of the AI on the other continent, leave one crippled. :)
Voila.

Stop Conditions:
-Meet another AI
-The Oracle is built in a far away land
-Barbs giving noobie me trouble :p

4 at the end of this turnset.
What the woodsman warrior is doing depends on how our barb attractor warrior fares against the barb. If it dies, we kill with woody. Then it explores.

Anyway, Chariots will also be out making it easier to explore and less likely to die :)

What do people think of the Pyramids gambit? I'm still not entirely convinced that it will help us significantly, since we still need to move our capital. Building (or attempting to build) three early wonders - even as an industrial leader - is a significant resource commitment.

Edit - is your primary stop condition "Built the Oracle"? What turn do you plan to stop your turnset?
