SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Once we popped gold in paris, i doubted we would ever move the cap, but the jury is still deliberating.

Paris at the moment still has more raw coins than Commerce

Paris is indeed a solid capital with the gold now but I think Commerce is better. The only question is if whether building the palace in commerce will offset the time taken to build it which I think it will. Obviously, it's open to discussion so would like lots of opinions on it!

Stay safe SH! The destruction on the New Jersey coast is just incredible.

Oh yeah, just noticed the New Jersey location.

Sincerely hope you haven't lost anything or anyone.
Thanks for the thoughts.

NJ home, which I am not at now, is w/o power, but otherwise ok. Town has lots of downed trees, which have wiped out electric, phone and internet. Not sure on cell coverage. Other parts of Jersey closer to shore much much worse.

Nothing for me to do atm. I am planning to head back tomorrow or friday.

I am eager to play a turnset, but if at any point, 24 hours passes w/o hearing from me, someone else can takeover. Tonight I review all posts and will clean up and post a final PPP for review.

PPP still says open borders with new AI. We don't want to do that, do we? Worst enemy potential.
Curious do we need open borders to send in a Missionary and infect. I am pretty sure we do.
How about a compromise, if we find a civ with No Religion and not in Theocracy, then we open borders and send in the missionary. Rational, it would be nice to share a religion with someone over on the new land and delaying it might matter. And second, if they don't have a religion, they are less likely to be a worst enemy of anyone.

I am okay waiting on the rest until Astro (TRs).

I would keep Spy1 back for counter espionage.

Trouble with this is where to station him? Any ideas - wheat? I was think in Tolosa we could try to steal treasury before attacking.

Speaking of spies. I assume we drop him on the first AI land we see and have him scout - yes?

I think all OB decisions should be " stop and discuss with team."

Stealing treasury is not desired. We would rather be able to see what Brennus is researching.

Not sure where to put counter-e spy.

Exploring spy should explore :-)

And we would need to factor in a GS for an Academy. But in the end this is a research game, so if ((Commerce (With Palace + Academy)) + Paris (without Palace)) gives more beakers than (Commerce (as is) + Paris (as is)) factoring in GS and cost of Palace, we should do it.

Ok - on OB discuss.

We will not see Brennus research for a long time w/o increasing ept significantly.

Agree with all that.

Yes I agree with that, for sure. We will have to keep an eye on it.

Paris has the coastal TR's, so will benefit from trades with other hemisphere more than Commerce.

Commerce has more cottages (and can take 2 more from Paris if it had enough pop).

edit:
Spy1 - to stay in Wheat for counter-esp.
this is a good idea.

Green from me!

Good idea to start preparing for Brennus from now! :)

By the way, our attitude towards Brennus: (Yeah, I'm bored  )
-We care for our brothers and sisters of the same faith +3
-Years of peace have strengthened our relations +1
-Our open borders have brought our people closer together +1
-You declared war on our friend -1
-(Base, -1)
-(He is weaker than us, +1)
So I can justify declaring on him :D

Green.

Should we explore Humbaba's Haven on the way? Is there any danger? Meeting AIs and finding other continent is the priority.

I agree that finding other AI's is the priority for now.

We still don't know what Humbaba himself is, so I think we should avoid going too near the area for now.

While we are at it, we should also say that do not end the Caravels movement in a coastal tile, as we would then be potentially vulnerable to barb galleys. Paranoid I know, but we have to make sure we meet AI's asap.
For all we know, we might need both Caravels to survive to meet them all.

Congrats! :goodjob: Are you playing for Pallasgreen, Brian?

Yep, we're the biggest shower of b******s around! As regards the game I've nothing to add at the moment.

One thing I really like this time around is that we are the head of the pack in terms of turns played. If we finish early, we get to watch the other teams finish their games.

I don't want to sacrifice anything in the quest to finish early, but if we can do it, the spectator sport of watching other teams for the final month can be quite exciting!

Teams that haven't finished can tell who has finished by seeing the finished teams posting in each others threads.

The final save date is hidden by the system. Only the penultimate save is displayed. Final saves are revealed after the entire game is over and awards are handed out.

one clarification made to the above
when we finish, Alan says congrats and reminds us of the above [can look at all, post in finishers]
We've usually been slow and I've never had the free time to read much in other threads. But yes, watching the others finish is fun.

edit: Chris' version didn't need correcting. "in each others threads" oops
