SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

I mean is it not possible to JUST gift the missionary? The caravel will still be ours.

No the missionary will not be able to get of the boat without OB.

I'd also like to suggest turning tile yields on whilst exploring the ocean :) It'll point us to land!

I admit I can't play the game without tile yields turned on, it tells you so much, what tiles are you currently working, what tiles are best improved, what tiles the AI are using.

I agree with keeping borders closed until we know Astronomy and the political situation over there.
We cannot sail our caravels into their cities without open borders.
I think priority is contact and not circumnavigation, so one caravel sh explore north and the other south.

Agreed, circumnavigation can wait.

Thoughts on save, continued

Production,
If we assign the forest to the FP Village, Production grows in 1 turn, not 2. Growth assigned to a engineer
Commerce has 2 cottages it isn't working anyway, so I think this would be optimal.

GP Farm, whip Trireme, make sure the whipped pop come from the mines, and not the specialists.

Barb City, whip the courthouse next turn, it is working 2 unimproved tiles and will grow in 2 turns.

Zhou, whip the courthouse this turn, all the chop and overflow hammers will flow into Maoi (which gets an extra 50% hammer bonus).
Zhou should also take the PHF from East Fish.

East Fish, whip the Harbor, for 25 hammer overflow into Courthouse.

Clams, change to CH

Paris, after monastery, build lots of Confused mishies, edit: but only after a buddhist one for Zhou.

Spy should move inland in SB's territory

Have you guys seen the graphs, PR played another turnset and their power has exploded.

edit: and can I encourage players not to queue builds, one is OK, but some cities have 4-5 builds queued.

My main reason is that situations change, but build queues quite often do not

Interesting. I suppose they are planning to war or perhaps they discovered a tech that gives them military points.

Interesting. I suppose they are planning to war or perhaps they discovered a tech that gives them military points.

Their power has jumped 60 in 4 turns. The most a tech gives is 12.

They have whipped an army for sure.

Ah I see. An interesting turn of events I suppose  I don't see how they could've gotten Optics as early as we have and still be able to war so an early war is very interesting. Fingers cross Brennus declared on them

They did settle inland, and not coastal, so they might have gone for a Cuir bulb strategy, just like they did in SGOTM 14.

So they might be miles from Optics, and concentrating on conquering the continent first.

How do you know they settled inland? :)

Also, you're right, that is very well possible. The turns do seem to co-incide after all! Let's hope that what they are doing is a mistake and we are doing it right :p

You can tell by their culture graph, they had 40 culture on t10, so they must have settled t0, which means they settled inland.

edit: it also explains their culture graph, more libraries earlier to pop the GS' required.

But their score didn't go down as it might for massive population decrease.

Their score trajectory was matching ours, and it has now dipped below, and we have been whipping quite freely as well, though admittedly not as freely as you need to do to get an army.

The SGOTM 14 map was also super generous (I know because I made it :p) and they had stone & marble to chop the 'mids and other wonders out easily. Not so in this game.

If the map was super generous, surely the Cuir date would be a lot later, no? :)

Unless they are going for a treb war?

You can also skip the whole fishing-sailing-calendar-compass-optics line to bulb MT with GS', as long as you skip fishing.

They kind of did a hybrid in SGOTM 14

edit: or a treb war indeed.

Very interesting if they ignored fishing! Although it seems to just be sub optimal play on this sort of map...Never know considering how much Mylene loves using Cuirs

Another interesting game to compare to is OSS from SGOTM 13.

AT 175ad, they have already bulbed Astro, as well as having CS.
But they did it purely with great people, having tech traded with almost everyone and having every single city getting international trade routes I'm sure helped.
Again, they had Stone and built the 'mids.

And it was epic, which plays a bit slower obviously.

edit: and our strat is about to come into its own, if we OB will all 4 AI (which I think we probably will, at least in the beginning) and they have an average of 8 cities each, our raw commerce will increase by 60. Due to bonuses, our sustainable tech rate will go from 100bpt to 150bpt, without even factoring for the courthouses.

That's a 50% increase in commerce! :) Pretty pleased actually. :)

However, we should start rushing out our last few cities (for now) so that we can quickly switch over to caste and generate our GS's quickly to get us up to date onto our Lib route. Plus, the fastr we get OU, the better it will benefit us :)

As for bur, we will need to calculate how long it will be good for us because it conflicts with free speech. That, I'll start doing once we get to Bur though. :)

No, I don't want any more cities. There are no sites left that are attractive enough at the moment, except fro Brennus' cities, they look yummy.

I agree that we should whip the smaller food rich cities like crazy, is that what you meant?

edit: Current city maintenance is 93 gpt, so there is a very large amount of gold to be saved with those courthouses.

Oh okay, that's fine then. Wasn't actually sure if we planned to settle any.

In that case, we should switch over to Caste and Bur as soon as we research CS. We should make sure GP farm is at it's ideal size by then and is no longer whipped and has all the necessary infra.

As for whipping smaller food rich cities, yes, we should whip them like crazy to get the infra in because afterwards, we won't have the chance once we get into Caste. So double fish needs to grow as soon as possible AND get the infra in! That's going to be our secondary GP farm I assume so we want a granary, lighthouse, CH and library in it at the very minimum. :)

We could probably get that down to 50 or so once the courthouses are in so our research slider should be able to go up by a good 20% hopefully! :)
