SGOTM 20 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

Can we see what units Suli has in Rheims? It can't be all that many. Though it is annoying that he will have copper access to build Spears there. We will not be able to cut it off, nor can we block his trade routes. An axe is a worthwhile build. Do we have any nearby to go in the galley already?

I didn't notice that Istanbul already has a galley waiting. I guess a second one is in fact not required. Our bottleneck is available units, including an axe.

CS builds HAs. Try to set up a three pop library whip, at pop 8.
I would not whip a Library in CS. This is basically a production city with a silver bonus amd not a commerce city imo. I would continue to build units here.

- Axeman towards Bursa, stack to stand on Silver, as it's the best tile.
That current Axe is/was destined for the galley and Rheims with an HA to pillage away. We kind of want to ignore Bursa imo and hope those troops move out into the open so we can kill them.

Agree with Ronnie's remarks. How many turns are you gonna play? Maybe if you go full throttle on maths, a good intermediate stopping point is when we get that (5-6 turns)?

I would also like to give a thought to capturing the barb city of Ghuzz after capturing Ankara. 4 (!) food resources and some hills, will make for an excellent city. Could even be a future NE city if it weren't for Marble Arch... Flat land too, so I'd actually make it an intermediate priority.

Also, where did the barb triremes go? Maybe we can contemplate a workboat at MA/HF just to see how long and whether a fishing net survives? :hmm:

Barb naval units can "see" targets from 8 tiles away, if I am recalling correctly. So the little sea around the barb island city is not big enough for them to not react to a work boat. It might be possible to get them to chase a work boat out the passage south and away from our area. If we could lead both triremes away then we might be able to start improving our seafood.

Bursa. I think if we move the chariot/archer combo away a couple of archers will move out. Especially if we are threatening another city.

2 axes west of Edirne. Need to be careful of those as most/all of the units in Edirne are wounded.

PPP seems good. Def like to see more HA's though rather than libraries as Ronnie1 mentioned. :)

Things went pretty well.
We got Ankara, and have the first troops on land at Rheims. Defense is atm 2 archers.
Three units moved out of Bursa, the two axes and an archer. We have them surrounded atm. We can kill them next turn, but it'll be costly.

I plan to play the last 5 turns in about 24 hours from now.
 
A Great General. Do we want a Chariot super medic? Consider building a fresh chariot in a city that has a Stable for the purpose.

How many troops ready for Rheims? My guess is we should attack with twice as many units as there are defenders. If it stays at 2 archers then I'm hopeful that 3 HAs + axe are enough.

By capturing Ankara, I'm guessing Bursa is now cut off from copper. Good thing.

We should send some more workers down to former Suli lands. Edirne has lots of Jungle to clear. Perhaps Edirne's first build should be a monument, not granary. Get those gems connected ASAP. (It's unclear if capturing Rheims will claim the gems, with French culture encroaching Napoleon's capital currently has only 3 rings - gems should be fine)
 
Looking quite good.

Two things:
- Get fur for deer from Peter now! Extra happy is huge.
- Work that wheat in HF at all times. Growing into unhappy is not a reason not to work it. With an extra fur less so.

Still would like to get Ghuzz pretty much asap. Should be easy and looks great.

I might be tempted to capture Rheims and just extort Poly and Med from Sulei.

Edirne probably should get Istanbul's cow and the latter work farms.

I'd still be tempted for a workboat if McA hasn't spotted barb triremes recently. Those might've perished by now to multiple french galleys. Note even Sulei has a galley. If we could build fish nets while we don't we're missing out on huge piles of food. At least worth a try imo.

I think Louis may have killed off the barb Triremes. I think we should build at least 1 WB ASAP in MA.

If there is no spear in Rheims next turn, I would consider attacking with the HA and the Axe. The HA will get decent odds after a CII promo, and they Axe may also after that. You can land 2 more HA's that turn and at least 1 the next.

What are we researching after Math?

I would chop the jungles off the Elephants at Edrine asap!

A Sentry promo unit standing on the pigs at Rheims should give visibility of the barb island city.

About the situation at CS and the GG. Those units may attack IBT, our HA with the shock promo will get good odds against the first axe for sure. I think it more likely that they heal and don't move. I would let those units attack CS and then kill what is left. If they move to one of the improved hills then I would kill them there.

Great General.. Super Medic seems best for the first one. I guess we are planning more wars shortly.. :D

Istanbul. Load the HA's onto the galley this turn then we can unload next turn by Rheims.

If the triremes have gone which seems reasonable. Getting some workboats out seems a good idea now Suly has basically gone.

I guess as already mentioned all the religions are in barb cities with the island city and one to the West having at least 1 religion each.

No prizes for guessing the missing AI is Liz (guess that's already been mentioned as well. :)).

I guess I am up next...I will try to find time to give the save a detailed look later today, and post a draft PPP. What are our top priorities? Do we want to declare on another AI? If so, who? Or do we want to concentrate on barbs for a bit, maybe take that island city and get some religion? We could of course do some of both, maybe going after the barb city while accumulating some additional forces as prep for DOWing another AI?

Where to from here?

I think that we should keep pressing our Horse Archer advantage while we have it. Prepare an attack on Peter.

Meanwhile, we should step up our exploration activities. We need to find the remaining AI and also find the locations of the other holy shrines. Once we have absorbed Suli's and Peter's lands into our empire we might be done for expansion; at which point we will need to turn our attention to winning the game.

The barb holy island would be a great thing to have. Overseas trade routes alone are hugely valuable for a large empire. Is it a one tile island or more? If more, then we might not need an extra galley.
 
Indeed looks fine.

We should start farming a scientist asap and most likely get CoL after currency. Therefore right now poly to Julius for PH and 40 cash looks ideal (@haph, that's a good example of a guaranteed fair deal which should give no WE diplo negatives with Augustus ;)). We'll run out of cash soon, so we probably should build some research and then wealth while going to CoL.

Next target: I must say the more I think of it the more I fancy Louis. His land looks very resource rich, it looks like some 8 happies we'll reap (!!! gold, gem, wine, fur, 4 calendar) and other goodies like stone, pigs etc. He has copper under the city of Chartres which may be knocked out on the 1st or 2nd turn of war if we invade with some galleys (supposing the water is indeed safe now). We have 13 HAs now, should be nice to make a good dent with some more chopped units. We might also ship over units to Rheims and invade from Napoleon's ground, our scout should uncover some unknown territory also in Louis' land (near his 5th city) before declaring.

Should also try to get the hindu city, but is a bit of a side show imo, in the sense that getting more AI territory sooner is more urgent.
 
I think I like going after the French next. I like having my back to the sea in the long run. ;) It isolates us on the end of the continent and would seem to give us access to 3 Holy cities.

I would prefer to wait on the barb holy city for Cats/Elephants. Hilled archers behind Castle Walls, ouch. We could obviously take it with enough HA's, but they would be better used against the French imo.

We could settle the 1 city site SW with the copper and wheat securing a decent chunk of land.
