SGOTM 22 - TTfkapr

And its a rebuilding year for the bears. Rough year incoming.

Year... Maybe more. We are still in quarterback hell. At least for a few years we didn't realize it Cutler. On Fantasy, I picked up Packers defense for this week cuz I know it's gonna be ugly. The packers are in great shape if Rogers is healthy for 2/3 of the season.

I think we should be careful not to make too many assumptions. Speculation is okay, but plans and tests should be based on only what we know. For now that means PH for AI. What else they have can be anything from extra settlers/workers/units to all ancient techs. We'll find out soon enough.

We don't have a worker, right? So opening AH+worker seems quite clear. What's the timing for AH? How many turns?

Edited!!!

No worker for us. 12 turns for AH assuming we meet no other AI in first 5 turns.

It's a modified Pangea. So in theory conquest via land could be possible. Pending how many ocean canals and mountain blocks have been added. My suggestion would be that a pure land conquest may be possible.

@ Shulec - Had a reply from DS - He is busy with real life. He would not enter a game unless he knew he had the time.

One opening strategy would be AH, myst, poly or med, PH. We can then build a monument? followed by oracle. By this time we could have 4-5 mines. Downside here is you are waiting for writing to get a decent tech from oracle. (Alphabet?) Unless you are happy with MC and a shot at a GE? I don't think we can whip the settler as we would need BW and then need archers or chariots.

To get a second building would otherwise require wheel/pottery/writing or a wonder. With 4 mines we would have 14 hammers a turn. So a settler in 5 turns without a whip or chop. Of course BW means for 2nd/3rd city you need chariots or archers. Hmmm.

I see little point in masonry if we don't want the GW. Up to 2600bc and no one has touched monarchy yet. Although the reality is on live game I suspect they will have 1-2 worked resources and maybe a worker. So hard to draw any conclusions.

Whoever starts from us should add pictures for all the demo screens for first 10 turns. These can be invaluable at times. Especially for spotting high early production or food.

In other news I had a strange dream last night about hoardes of Zulus invading. That mixed in with a phone call from work. Can't remember the dream too well but I kept replaying this game and it kept ending badly. Oh dear!!! Shall we quit now. lol

No idea about the bears!! All I know is they only move 1MP. haha.

I officially have no BTS access for 4 days. So make sure to post pictures when live save is up. Remember to check every screen in case we miss something. E.G barbs with religions. Wonders already assigned. Combat logs etc. Same for corps already set up. That and presettled Ai cities.

Back Monday. Not sure what time. I will be on my mobile so i can still post.

Welcome aboard Soundjata. You are most welcome. This is very much an evolving team. Is the live save up yet.

Welcome aboard Soundjata.
Second that.

Anyway... No tech trading or brokering! (Great call BSPollux! Great Spies just became much more valuable. Should be interesting. No pre-built wonders/religions/corps.

Spoiler :

The health bars on the warriors are not tiny, so there are no AI super units.

It seems the perfect announcement post is something I will never be able to do...

It was missing another tiny detail again:

No tech trading or brokering

This will be posted in each team thread now.

AI soldier count is not that high. They can't have been given many extra units or any military techs at all.

What is the landtile count for the map (hover over our score on scoreboard and it says land 0/xxx)?

Yea soldier count is not that hight but they have some additional untis maybe 1 or 2 archers, witch meens oracle can be a gamble.
When i was checking what ais prducing at beggining with PH technology is something like archer-worker-archer-settler de Gaulle went for oracle after this i manage to be faster but if he would have additional archers allrdy he could change hes producion path and go for it ealier.
I dont know doest it works like this or does ai's "think" like this just assuming.

It also depends on their production. A couple of games back the mapmaker had Huayna start on marble plains hill with masonry and PH, which in most games made him go straight for the oracle. We will know more from demos next turn.

Hello all, checking in :)

I can't commit yet to play any turns because I need to make buffy work first. I'll see what I can achieve applying Gkey's procedure.

Nevertheless I am happy to join TTfkapr and participate to a glorious victory as I'm used to

Conquest victory looks obvious but we can't expect stopping our research at Iron Working + Construction. Otherwise BSPollux would have failed horribly his design.
Therefore research will have to be emphasized through either cottages or representation specialists.

With raging barbs and limited cities, The Great wall looks seducing. Adding no tech trade, Espionage Economy will be good with a nicely set up spy city (Mansa are you around ?)

Anyways let's focus on the early turns and try to gather as much map intelligence as possible. With 4 warriors we should be able to unfog a lot of space in 12 turns! Let-s try not losing our initial units.

BTW, won't we have to pay taxes to support 4 units with a level 1 city ? SIP is ok for me.

I think at this stage plan warrior moves and settle capital. Then we can get x, y coordinates of capital. I suspect start has been planned so we see everything. Then we can do a proper test game.
Unless we want to send settler on a mini tour.

No tech trading puts the monarchy trade on hold. I suspect the ai will tech slowly this game anyway.

Edited pangea should mean we can skip astronomy. I assume we can get techs from peace treaties?

Who would like to start us off?

I still like early chariots. Agg ai can be a pain.

I ran a quick test.
Animals show up on T6.
Barbs show up on T44 in one game and T50 in another.

We should be able to get up a library, a second city and the Great Wall by T55 (1800 BC).

The most useful information here at this point is that our warriors can scout pretty liberally. We have to just stay on high defense tiles and avoid bears and panthers.

First turnset - 12 turns:
Settle in place.
Research and finish AH.
Build a worker. 3 turns left.
Scout locally with all four warriors.

Is there definately no value in moving? I guess pangea will mean we meet the ai soon enough. Worker stealing would be good. Deselect ah each first 5 turns.

Things will pick up here when others return Monday.

Modified pangaea was the description of Sgotm 20 also iirc. There 2 AI were on another landmass and astro was required to beat special requirements.

If we name our warriors 12 - 3 - 6 - 9 clockwise,

  • 6 can go SW-SW-SE and reveal if some land exist south of the Peaks
  • 9 can go W-W-W-SW and zig-zag along the coast. We might be able to create a foreign coastal trade route this direction.
  • 12 can go NW-NW-NW...
  • 3 can go NE-NE-NE-SE

City #2 will certainly not be north (jungle) but could be east or on the coast.

4 warriors regroup and aim at sniping a city together :crazyeye:

Spoiler :
In any case, encounters with any unit should be a stopping point for the initial player

Shulec, are you taking the first turnset ? :)

I can do the first turnset. Your scouting plan sounds good. I will wait for additional feedback for 24 hrs, then finalize the plan and play 4 turns 24 hours after that.

On the coast sunds nice becouse we start with fishing but in other hand we dont want to get bw i belive befor we settle 3th city so bulidng workboat without bw takes forever and taht city dont realy help us out at begining.
I think 2nd city spot should be depended on resources well lets c what maps brings.

Scouting plan sounds great.

Btw how many turns we are palying ? i meen each of us ?
