t86: Frederick demands we cancel deals with Mehmed II; I plan to ignore his demand.

Uploaded after playing 2 turns:

Turn 86 is complete except for trades. We can get Monotheism + 30W from Mehmed II for Alphabet. There are many sales of small technologies for small lump sums of wealth we may want to do to maintain our research and potential espionage slider rates.

I will continue my turn set Wed. morning.

I decided that an Axeman and Spearman for stack defense was more important that 2 Spies, besides it was only practical to built the Spies in our two cities with Barracks which would be a minor waste.

Trades sound good to me. The cash will be useful, and helping open the way to Theology (and later Gunpowder) will be good for later. Plus helping the AIs a bit will increase the overall tech pace, which should help us long term. (As long as we don't fall behind, of course.)

I also like the spear/axe for stack defense. We might even want to consider an archer or two, just for simple defense, although that is lower priority unless we do get attacked. But if we need a garrison unit to free up horse archers then an archer might be a good option.

Good luck, Sun Tzu Wu!

Thank you, haphazard, for your suggestions. I will try to get as much wealth (gold) for the small technologies as possible.

I am resuming my turn set now.

t86: Mehmed II: Monotheism + 30W for Alphabet. He would have traded Monotheism + 25W for Mathematics, but I decided to with the Alphabet trade. The AIs will trade Alphabet more freely than most other technologies of similar size, so we met as well get good value for our early Alphabet while we can.

t86: Stalin: 50W for Meditation. I will wait until an AI has at least 50W to trade, before I will sell him z small technology.

t87: Moving our Spy towards Berlin; he will be in Berlin next turn.

t88: We have completed construction. All four cities are starting Catapult builds.

t88: Our research rate at 100% is 75 Bpt (without building research). At this rate, we will complete Theology in 9t and Paper in 12t. Assuming we build up Espionage for 2t against someone. This will align well with generateing a 2nd GS in Paris in 23t.

t88: Our espionage rate at 100% is only 59 Ept, and Support City Revolt in Paris will cost 702 base espionage, our religions are the same, so stationary spy is our only significant espionage discount. Thus, it will likely cost us 350E which would take 6t to accumulate, which is too long in my opinion. We should put all our espionage on Hatshepsut to steal technologies from her.

t88: Switching espionage (4 Ept) to Hatshepsut now.

t88: We should use the Spy to explore, since the espionage to Support City Revolt is too high to be practical at the moment.

t88: Two turns to complete Stone Quarry and 2 more turns to connect it. We should start building The Hanging Gardens after our Catapults are completed and Stone is connected. We should also settle two more cities and captured many more by the time it is completed.

t89: Islam spread in Orleans.

t89: three Catapults have been whipped. Orleans grows too slowly to whip; I will try to build one. catapult organically, but I will whip the second one built there.

t89:We are 1 turn into Theology now; 8t left.

t90: Darius I will trade Silver, but he will not talk to us yet. after we broke diplomatic relations to comply with Stalin's demands.

t91: Stone is connected. We have 4 Catapults (2 with 3 XPs and 2 with 0 XPs).

t91: Moving Spy to Hatshepsut.

t92: We have 2 more Catapults, making a total of six. I plan to build at least 4 more; with 10 Catapults, we can bombard Berlin's Walls Defence of 50% down to 10-14% in a single turn. Our stack will also include 10 HAs, 1 Axe and 1 Spear. Berlin is going down in 2t of march and 2t of siege!

t92: Our power is 2.1x Hatshepsut's. At 3x we could peace vassal her without being a land target (8 plots of her border adjacent to our border). We need Feudalism for that too, but Hatshepsut will probably research that fifty us too!

t92: Mehmed II has had a raised fist for several turns now, but with only 2 cities, he is hardly a threat.

t92: Traded Stalin remainder of Writing for 25W.

t92: Traded Mao Mysticism for 30W.

t93:Joao II adopted Organized Religion.

t93: Hatshepsut adopted Universal Suffrage.

t93: We have 7 Catapults.

When we complete the Catapults in Orleans and Double Fish plus build and whip a another Catapult in Double Fish, we will have 10 Catapults facing the Walls of Berlin.

We could send both Axemen for defense against Frederick's Spearman, but we would need a new MP for Orleans.

BTW, if you haven't noticed, my turn set just completed. :)

Looking good for our upcoming conquest of Germany. :D Nice work, Sun Tzu Wu!

Mehmed planning war...wonder who his target might be? I agree that with our buildup it should not be us, and even if it is (maybe he started planning when we were weaker?) it should not be a significant problem.

I like the idea of the Hanging Gardens. More pop, more health, and some GE points would be nice. Which city to build it in? Somewhere that will be running specialists so we get those GE points into the gene pool.

Do we want to do anything with a state religion now that we are getting some religious techs and options? Maybe after our war with Germany?

Interesting that Hatshepsut left Representation when she has the Great Library. No way she has many towns at this point in the game, so almost certainly a poor move by the AI.

Yeah, I should be next. I'll take a look at the save tomorrow and post a plan. Actually I have some time.

Probably declare in 4 turns when the 2 pults/HA stack fully arrives in double fish.

Two prong attack as the picture shows. 4 HA's for Frankfurt, rest of the stack for Berlin. The remaining HA's should make to Berlin with some health after the pults have bombarded. The remaining stack will have 7 HA's plus an axe, a spear, and a chariot, so the HA's for Frank might not be needed for Berlin. The HA's could also attack from 1N of the Fe as well, which may be better. I didn't see at first that there's no culture there.

Spoiler :

Workers: Cottages, chop forest 2W of Orleans, pre chop forests N of stone.

Spy will head to Berlin, or will we not have enough EP on Freddy to riot Berlin? The pults will take need 1 turn and then have 8 ready to attack the following turn, so Berlin should fall on turn 4 of the war without the spy.

Cities produce units, mainly HAs/pults. Cu start on Aqueduct for HG.

Research Theology into Paper, saving GS for Education.

Exploring warrior head to India for final AI.

I'll keep an eye on the german spear in our lands, so he isn't knocked in an bad spot.

PS Hatty's favorite civic is OR.

I think we do not have nearly enough EP to revolt any of Frederick's cities. But we have plenty of catapults.

Keep an eye on possible trade opportunities (tech, resources, cash). Something useful might become available, if we are fortunate.

OR makes much more sense as Hatty's fave civic. I am just wondering why she went with Universal Suffrage over Representation when she has the Great Library. Maybe she got a big chunk of cash somehow and wants to rush buy? But giving up the happiness as well as the specialist beakers...what is the AI thinking? :smoke:

I'd move the spy now. We'd probably have to run the slider for a turn or two to get the EP.

Using the Spy for a support city revolt in Berlin will require 6-8t of 100% Espionage. That is why I built 7 Catapults and have Catapults whipped in the two cities nearest Berlin. Double Fish should whip the 10th Catapult; When it completes is the best time to attack Berlin; We can bombard Berlin walls down from 50% to about 12% defense in 1 turn; following turn barrage with Catapults to give our HAs maybe 90% of better odds of winning. We will lose several Catapults, but we should have enough to capture the rest of Frederick's cities.

I sent the spy to Hatshepsut and put our EPs on her for future technology steals. I don't believe putting EPs on Joao II was our best option.

In the near future, we should capture Jerusalem, to have the Christian holy city which provides a -25% holy city Espionage discount. About the only discount we could have gotten is the stationary spy discount which maxes out at -50% after the Spy is stationary for 5 turns.

Our Espionage rate with 100% slider was only about 60 Ept a few turns ago. I estimated we would need 350E for the Support City Revolt mission. Thus, it would require 6 turns of 100% espionage slider to support tthis, assuming we had the spy in position in Berlin 5t before our attack.
