SGOTM 9 - jeffelammar

Are there any units defending the nearby cities? Once we have all of the SS techs, evacuate the troops from the city and hope Gandhi will spot it.

I thought we had one or two spaceship techs to go, but I may have lost track. Aren't we short superconductor or something?

If we have no spaceship techs left, it is elevator time.

I'd dial tech back to a 10-12 turn research time and go Genetics -> Recycling -> Smart Weapons -> Integrated Defense. Then loop back to pick up the other missing techs from the middle ages and Industrial. (IIRC nobody has printing press, democracy, Free Artistry) yet.

If we have all spaceship techs, we should elevator Ghandi right away. Gift all non-optional techs to Osman and then clear out of Channel City and put single guards in all other nearby cities.

If Ghandi is about to start knocking down our cities, then we should start to take them from Brennus.

I'm pretty sure that superconductor was our last spaceship tech. (And it's been 12 turns since we said 12 turns to the elevator, so we should be set. ;) )

How long do you suppose it will take for Ghandi to get up the nerve to take Channel City?

I don't know. Is it Odense that is right on his border? Maybe that would be appealing to him first. I think the best strategy is laid out already: defend the ones we want to keep awhile, and abandon the rest now. Ghandi we can't control so much...

Off topic: I switched to Firefox recently, noticed it downloads everything to my desktop. It doesn't give a choice. That's probably why I had my little error during my turnset. Does anyone know how to change this?

Does anyone know how to change this?
lurker's comment: I'm sure the's a way. Firefox for Mac has a Preference under the Downloads tab. You can select "Ask me where to save every file" or "Save files to folder:" and a pop-up where you select the download folder

1475(0): minor MM here and there
looks like 3 turns for robotics, 5 turns for superconductor
sell military tradition to Ottomans for WM, 3gpt, 16g; I'll keep watching for Celtic deals
science to 20% to get more interest from Wall Street (will be 100% next two turns)

1480(1): science to 100%

1485(2): zzz

IBT: learn robotics, start on superconductor

1490(3): switch some cities to manufacturing plants
science to 0% to get more interest from Wall Street

IBT:  New Karistad flips to Celts

1495(4): science to 90%

1500(5): price of electronics is now quite low, so sell it to Celts for wines, WM, 29g, worker
science to 80%

1510(7): zzz

IBT: learn superconductor

1515(8): empty Channel City
give Ottomans what India needs
I'll gather money at 0% science a little, genetics currently in 14

1520(9): science to 50%

1525(10): zzz

Notes: The ROP with the Celts is expiring (although I think the Celts won't renegogiate on their own)

Here is the save

India is not expansionistic... :(

Now I can imagine why some teams are in the 20xx without Indians in space...

Gandhi behaves like a defiant child - he once launched a curragh, lost it and never tried again. He twice sent an archer, was hurt, never tried again. Chicken!

Next time I want an aggressive, sea and exp or mil civ to guide to space. :crazyeye: Even stupid Mongols are more useful to conquer space than these ascetic monks... :wallbash: :gripe:

Okay, now I'm feeling (slightly) better... :smug:

This is turning out to be a little more "hurry up and wait" than I had anticipated. I guess there is nothing to do but wait, now. At least we should have plenty of time to build modern age wonders for Ghandi.

So do we start on the Celts now or wait until India starts expanding so we can keep the Celtic cities?

BTW: Nice work to the last couple of players. We've executed the plan about as well as possible. Now it's up to Gandhi to do his part.

I'm hoping the last 2 little tricks we've got are something that the other teams didn't think of. (WE GA & Manhattan bait & switch)

My opinions
#1 - Kill the Celts NOW. We should already be in position. Keep 5-6 cities. (Should keep us under the Limit) Raze the rest. Replace them with settlers built out of our cities that won't be taken for a while.
#2 - Move all troops away from Ghandi. If we don't have troops there, he can't do stupid attacks. The only city to defend right now is Trondheim. We need to protect it until we have things set up in Celtic Lands for our palace jump.
#3 - Looks like a long period of Waiting coming up.
#4 - I think Deny was right way back when he suggested wiping out the Ottomans and keeping Brennus around to use as a trading intermediary.

Other than that, it looks like we are in cross our fingers mode.

got it.

Will analyze today, play tomorrow.

Next player be ready for tomorrow night... :mischief:

Any objections to starting war immediately?
We are strong compared to Celts.
Our forces:
7 armies
7 Bombers
68 MA
3 Mech Infs
21 tanks
20 Infs

I investigated Entremont. It has 13 Infs. It also has Magellan's, Leonardo's, Bach's, US, MM, ToA. It is certainly labeled "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO...`:crazyeye:
It also has Iron Works  and Intelligence Agency.
I'm not sure if we try to keep it or raze it. After we finished the Celts we won't need those wonders anymore, will we?

Richborough is an invitation. Just 3 Infs guarding... :D
Same in Augustodurum and Washington.

Let's get ready to rumble.... :hammer:

Man, I'm starting to feel bad I didn't shell that wandering archer. But who knew?
I'm sure we can take on the celts. Obvious stuff: keep a close eye on the dom limit, and make sure the smell of curry wafting out of Channel City is especially strong.

I have no objection to immediate war. In fact, Paul, if you could finish the Celtic war during your turns so I have nothing to do but wait on Ghandi, that'd be okay with me. ;) (It's been a long week; a few turns of pushing enter sounds better than orchestrating a big war effort right now.)

I would keep Entremont just because it is too cool of a city not to. Will it help accelerate the win, no, but that is just a sick city in terms of production and power.

I would also jump our palace to Entremont instead of Richborough. Richborough would be a better long term location, but putting it in Entremont eliminates any possibility of a flip there.

As a Capitol or First ring city Enteremont's massive tourism bonuses will help us rebuild our economy!

We all did not know, so don't blame yourself. I redlined his first but we did not quite find out what he was about to do...

We all could have made some more trials about what Gandhi was about to do. But we thought the other parts of our plan where the more critical ones and those were carried out pretty well I think.

In my test game (Cotm9) the Hittites (?) were expanding quite fast in my core but Gandhi is less aggressive it seems. :( In my previous games I always liked him as a reliable partner. That's how you can be deceived... :crazyeye:

I played to turn 2 (1535 AD). Celtic continent is ours!
Killing record is like 160-20.

MA-Armies are unbelievable! Each made like 10 kills without resting!

3 leaders generated.
Entremont is our new capital. New Caristad has Intelligence Agency.
No flips yet.
I kept Entremont, Alesia, New York, Washington, Richborough. Rather razed two towns in Spain, the captured Cities have good improvements.

No action to report from Gandhi. :(

After ~5 hours, I need a break. Will submit tomorrow. Sorry.

Detailed report to follow... too late... must

Sounds like you got to have some real fun there! I wish that I had gotten the honor of having Brennus for lunch. That would have been a blast.

No need to appologize. 5 Hours is an impressive amount of time for two turns. Hope you enjoyed them.

If we have a spare leader left, I'd save it for rushing the Forbidden Palace once Ghandi takes that one from us.

Two turns, wow, you just demolished him! A bit of a mismatch, but where AI is concerned, my philosophy is there's no such thing as overkill :goodjob:
