SGOTM21 Lurker's Thread

In case someones interested, here are some results from early game tests. It's really difficult to force the AI to do the same each time you replay the game.

Spoiler :

The dates for people are the time they met the player (the player founded its first city and did nothing at all). 'Avaiable' means the player had access to a religion at all early on. the 'c65' numbers is the AIs city count.

Hah! Lazy lurkers! Where are constantly updated comparisons??

Fantastic scenario, but Isa/MM workboat sailing to Greece or not is a gamebreaker (or if it would be clear stated fe. in direction clue that all are available by sailing only - we wont buy it anyway, but reduces randomness level)

Lots of fun, thx, prepare next wooden spoon to our collection

And we want a brand new pacifist award. It was only a rushing mistake of losing residency, otherwise we will not declare any single war of conquest!

Thanks for the feedback.

The passage wasn't really hidden, it was right before your doorstep. I think anyone who wanted to scout would have found it. If I say "wants to scout" I mean "is willing to invest in scouting units early on".

Yes, but nobody went there unless Isa//MM were known

Technically, we did go there, but our WB died before it got past the first island in the chain. If PD sailed that passage with a WB, they must've been awfully damn lucky. We had trouble with 4 different barb galleys coming out of there over the course of the game.

Yes that is right. Noone will go there early with the workboat.
Later in the game - if a team knows, there are for sure civ accesable by sail, they go there. If no contact for dozens of turns, you dont try any more

PD did.

I like that scouting is rewarded. But in this case, most teams were rewarded by AI scouting, not their own. Maybe the idea would have worked better with Toku in Mansa's location, with a capital that blocks workboat access to the passage for other civs. Toku could still have found you early, but that's not as big a deal as being found by Mansa. And to meet the other civs early you would have had to explore the passage yourself and do something to get open borders with Toku.

And congrats on completing the game! :goodjob: It was indeed a fun one!

In any case, knowing that TSR and PD are always beyond, we finish in the middle of 3 teams (dont count Xteam yet, but they are beyond our reach too). Great progress thanks to new players. Team thread was finally alive, I learned gazillion new things and I am really really proud!

If PR hadn't fallen apart, I think there would've been no question who would win the laurels. Only the order of them would be in question. As it was, I was really hoping for a repeat of Bronze + Spoons. Alas, JAE seems to have edged us out for bronze.

But the Wooden Spoons! They are ours once again!

Well, in theory you still have a shot at Bronze. All it takes is for PD to tie with TSR and Xteam to tie with us. ;)
Spoiler :
Not gonna happen, I don't think Xteam can have a t203 vote. :(

Interested to see if Xteam will really pull this off in the final hour. They say 17 turns to victory, but they've got fewer hours than that to play.

Hmm... maybe 19 hours. I can't believe it's only 10 am here, it feels like I've been at work for half a day already. :(

They seem remarkably unstressed considering how many turns there are left. Maybe there is not much warring to go and there will be a few turns of just hitting enter and waiting for AP election.

So PD is done too. Incredible that both PD and TSR get the win on the same turn after so many tasks and events. Congrats guys! :hatsoff:

ReaLLy? I guess that means I can sleep tonight knowing JAE will get some laurels even if Xteam beats us (as they seem likely to do).:viking:

Scouting is only one priority among many.

Looks like we can congratulate Shawshank Redemption with the victory. I don't see how the other teams can compete against a 30% science boost + an extra happy face.

We'll see. They are a strong team anyway, I would have preferred if this happened to a weaker team. But the game is far from over and lots of things can happen.

That's why you should put hidden resources on hills around the capital at least. Like Aluminium or Uranium... something of little impact.

I think I just read in Xteam's thread that they are researching Industrialism before Railroad.

Was our team wrong about needing Combustion to be able to build tanks? I don't think we were. A fort on an oil patch only provides oil after Combustion, right?

Can anybody look at their latest save and determine whether they actually have oil to build their tanks?

Snipped from a recent Dhoom post:

"T187 Learn Combustion and start to build Tanks
T188 Whip Tanks"

So seems he knows they need Combustion :)

Wouldn't have worked in THIS scenario.
