SGOTM8 - Durkz

Didn't realize I was up already.
You weren't, but I don't have the time. So you get the honors instead. :)

One suggestion: before finishing the current turn move the 3 tanks right next to Caesarea. They have one move left this turn and if they start right next to Caesarea they will be able to blitz if necessary.
Two of them have two moves left and could attack this turn even. I don't really see a reason not to, what's the point of peace anyway?

EDIT: and how could I forget!?! Our great leader is sitting in Romanum. Might as well rush a tank with him in case we need it against the Roman capital.
Good idea, that's probably the only thing that could help us at this point.

Methos, bring us home.

"What's so funny bout peace, love and understanding?"

On the other hand, it might just be that because of the changed starting location for Ragnar the powers that be will decide to yet again award separate laurels for PTW and Classic, which means racing against Xteam is rather pointless... but fun. :D

I think they'll have to award seperately because of the different AI starts. That could make it a very different game. But I'm hoping they do award seperately because Klarius and Wacken's finish dates have EVERYONE beat. Their last uploads are something insane like 1060 and 1100AD. That's pretty amazing.

Well, I'm not all that impressed. (well ok, maybe a little, but anyway ;))
Why not? Their scientists generate 3 beakers instead of one, which means their research potential is significantly higher than ours, especially on this map where scientists played a big role. Their minimum research is 3 turns (not that I think we could have managed that ever). Also they have the Republic slingshot (which Wacken missed though, judging from their QSC stats), they don't have to research Radio (removed in C3C), and they don't need Electronics for MotTrans which means tanks come a lot faster.

I'm not saying we would have beat them, oh god no. But neither do I think their end dates are insane. After all, 1100 AD is only 25 turns before us (not counting the fact that they won't have finished in 1100 AD but some time after). 25 turns, that's not much...right? ;) :crazyeye:

I don't really see what that has to do with separate awards though, the C3C teams are already in a division of their own.

More powerful armies helps too. That being said, both teams are very good and I'm happy we're in another competition :).

So, the big question at this point: will you guys stay around for another round, SGOTM9? Or is it cIV from now on?
I won't go get it until around X-mas, I simply won't have enough time until then to play, so another Civ III SGOTM seems like a great time for me to pass time. :)

Besides, we'll have a reputation to keep.

So what do you say?

... after conquest reached of course. :D

I don't remember whose sig line I just hijacked, but thanks anyway... and to mister Costello. :D

I'll be around for SGOTM9, too. It will be at least a couple weeks before I get Civ4, and I enjoy the succession games a great deal.

Count me in. No civ4 for me yet, my comp can hardly handle civ3 :). Perhaps around Xmas as well, but even then I might play interesting civ3 variants.

1295 AD (0): Re-base four bombers from New Orleans to Tacoma. Lee rushes a tank. For the heck of it I do a few bombing runs on both Caesarea and Jerusalem. I don’t wound any of the units but I do remove the barracks from both cities.
Caesarea: Declare on Rome and move three tanks adjacent to the city. Only get two free attacks which defeat two riflemen. Only one of the tanks took damage (3/5).
IT: A Roman longbowmen attacks a tank and forces it to retreat. The longbowmen was unhurt.

1300 AD (1):
Falun: Had only the single spearmen, falls in a single attack. Both tanks head toward DaveMcWorgborg.
Caesarea: First tank takes out two riflemen. Second tank takes out one riflemen, leaving only a galley to defend. Raze it obviously.
Matsuyama: Send a bomber their way wounding the spearmen. When the second bomber does his run notice the 1 hp spearmen as the main defender. Follow up with a single cav and raze the city.
Jerusalem: A couple bombers swing in to visit bringing the elite riflemen down to 3 hp. An elite tank finishes him off and auto-razes the town.
Hippo Regius: An elite tank approaches the city and notices its defended by a warrior. One attack (losing a hp from a warrior!) and raze the city.
Nicomedia: An elite tank finishes off the lone spear and razes the city. Oh yeah, and we get this:

SGOTM8_Rome.JPG

Lund: Two spears defending her but she falls.
DaveMcWorgborg: After all the bombing runs I bring the city down to size 1 and the final bomber brings the defending spear to 1 hp. The one tank who is able to attack this round takes the city. And we get this:

Well, I believe this is over but boy do I hate to skip to the next turn. Nothing in F4 or the espionage screen, so here goes…

SGOTM8_Victory.JPG

We are remembered in history as Lincoln the Magnificent!

For those of you who are interested here's the save pre-victory, and here's the save post victory.

WAHOOOOOOOO!!!

That was a great game. Well played, everyone!!

How come the SGOTM Results page doesn't show our final save? Kind of has me worried.

They do that on purpose so that other teams cannot know our exact finish date. After everyone has finished the final dates will be shown. Good job, Methos. How'd you like rolling that warrior with a tank? :p

That was both fun and nervous. I was worried I just wasted a perfectly good tank versus a warrior would he could have attack the other city. Oh well, was still a blast!:D

BTW, that warrior must have one heck of an axe to have wounded the tank. I wonder if there's ever been a tank that was defeated by a warrior?:D

Hmm, I already have CivIV but this game has been extremely fun. I may be interested in playing another. That is if you all will have me? My experience isn’t even close to what the rest of you are.

Edit: So does this mean we can now read the other teams threads?

Yes, we can read the other teams threads... as far as I know. At least I hope so! I was just checking Xteams thread. Man, I've been dying to do that for days! We really thought they were going to be trouble when in fact they are some ways from finishing still.

We can also read the final spoiler thread.

EDIT: It's probably a very big no-no to post in the thread of any team that is not finished. I haven't seen that written anywhere but it would make sense. You probably guessed as much already but just thought I'd say it.

Congrats all! Great play, and it seems we've won the 1st prize! Did we?

Viks were the last one standing, as predicted by Niklas -creepy .

EDIT: warrior vs tank - these are old-fashioned, WW2 style tanks. So I guess with a good axe you could damage the threads :mischief:.

And Methos - I would definitely like to have you on the team for the next round. Never change a winning team, right? ;)

:woohoo:  :goodjob:

Way to go Methos! I'm so glad you did it in one turn, that means my 15 turns held... well, ok, we didn't actually win until 1305 AD, but whatever. :p
Of course we want you on the team! After all, you scored a solid second position in the most important competition of all: http://forums.civfanatics.com/misc.php?do=whoposted&t=125347. And quit that stuff about being inexperienced, your doing just fine. You should go read my spoiler from my first GotM here (38), then you'll see about inexperienced. Besides, what are these games for if not learning?

Off to read other threads! :D
