SGOTM8 - Wacken

If my memory does not fail me I believe the AI will attack even if we have unpteen defenders move into the location. And I do believe making gpt deals on the turn before a possible AI attack will not change the AI's mind. I guess there is something not taking into account events happening between end of last AI turn and start of it's next turn. So no matter how the odds change the AI will still go ahead with the plans it had last turn. So, by all means make a deal, Rome will probably DoW anyway.

well, that's true if they we're going to attack us. Vikings went right for that spot as well (probably has oil or rubber). They could also be going after the Greeks and thier spices but that's probably less likely.

Washington to JSbach
San Fran to TOE, due in 3.
Vadso to a worker build.
Quite a bit of tile shuffling to optimize cavalry builds.

860ad
Atlanta cavalry -> cavalry
Chicago cavalry -> cavalry

Quite a bit of mining with workers.

870ad
StDman harbour -> cavalry
Eindhoven cavalry ->cavalry
New Orleans market -> barracks

We are down to +20gpt, prob as a Greek gpt deal ends.

Ibt Roman MI lands next to Anyang (on Greek island), doesn’t look friendly.

880ad
refining
New York cavalry -> cavalry
Phili cavalry -> cavalry
Seattle cavalry -> cavalry
San Fran TOE -> cavalry
Pick atomic and Electronics!! Combustion due in 4.
Buffalo cavalry ->cavalry

Washington switches to Hoover, due in 5, clearly just over 200 shields to go.

I don’t trust those Romans further than I can throw them. I break for the night and ask the team.

I decide I am not going to give the Romans tech. They are currently giving furs and 90 gpt.

I give Rome coal for 31gpt, 7g and WM, hopefully this will keep them sweet. I don’t know what happened to their coal, and they have some unroaded in their land anyway (near Japanese border).

I try a bit of forestry with workers, fiddle more with micromanagement, and then spacebar, holding my breath about the romans.

Ibt Romans declare the MI relines the lone cavalry in Anyang, but dies. It looks like breaking the bank in gpt for nationalism would have been the thing to do.
Lots of Roman galleons appear and disappear just to north of Anyang.

Japs move 2 galleons next to our gem colony in the south.

890ad

Boston cavalry -> cavalry
New Orleans barracks -> cavalry. The city is starving, I had better address that.

We are down to 6 lux and gpt is now -73.

900ad
Three Roman Galleons are next to Baltimore. We have 23 cavalry, but are still weak compared with them.

Atlanta cavalry -> cavalry
Chicago cavalry ->cavalry

Vikings finally have Invention!

Ibt One vet Roman cavalry lands near Beijing.

910ad
New York cavalry -> cavalry
Phili cavalry ->cavalry
San Fran cavalry ->cavalry
Miami courthouse ->barracks
Houston harbour -> barracks
Eindhoven cavalry -> cavalry

Kill roman cavalry next to Beijing with a cavalry.

910ad
Combustion -> flight, due in 5 at 100%.
Seattle cavalry ->cavalry
Vadso worker -> harbour

Japs have Nationalism. The price is high WM, coal, gems, 13gpt, indust and electricity. However, mobilization sounds good, and the Japs building railroads also sounds good so I buy it.

920ad
Hoover Dam: Golden Age.
Boston cavalry ->cavalry
Atlanta cavalry -> cavalry
Chicago cavalry ->cavalry
San Fran cavalry ->cavalry
Miami barracks ->cavalry
Buffalo cavalry ->cavalry
New Orleans cavalry -> cavalry
Flight due in 3 now we are in Golden Age (ie 4 in total).

Washington can make a cavalry every turn now, and 9 cities can make one in 2 turns.
Some of these have horrid overruns and I switch SF, Phili and NY to banks.

940ad
More cavalry ->cavalry builds. We have 37 now, still weak compared with Rome.
Houston starts a factory.

Science rate down to 80%. Flight still due in 2.

950ad
Rome MI land next to Beijing on hill, killed by cavalry who promotes to elite.
More worryingly a Roman longbow lands next to our English base, Vadso. The worker there runs away, hopefully he can still make an airstrip when we get flight next turn.

For some reason I need 90% science again to get flight next turn.

I haven’t mobilised, as we are still building a few potentially useful factories, and are likely to switch to bombers next turn which won’t get a bonus. I don’t think mobilisation will get many/any more cities to 80 spt anyway.

The Romans still won’t talk. It will be very irritating if we have to research rep parts ourselves after all this.

We have finally exceeded our unit limit and are paying 20 gpt in support. We have 43 cavalry, weak compared with Rome, and strong compared with all the rest.

The next turnset should be fun with flight. I only hope we can still build an airstrip on the English island.

PS. civ assist wasn't working for me at the end, so it is only now I see there is going to be a 73 beaker overun for flight next turn. If you want you could change some scientists around to avoid this.

Unless we reduce to 5 turn sets, I guess these may be my last turns, so good luck!

Told you it would happen! :crazyeye: And a really big gamble leaving a single Cavalry in Anyang...

We can ony hope the worker is left alone long enough so he can build the airstrip and "call for reinforcements"...

Oh, looks like england is going to DoW next turn.
Shouldn't be a problem to destroy them and we will have to wait until Adv. Flight to get rid of Rome.
Although there is a Roman city on the same island where our Spice colony is.
So i suggest build an airstrip on that island next turn. Capture roman city and i am sure they will talk to us.
Don't know how they homeland looks like if we are super lucky they have pop 1 or 2 city there to give us.

Oh, by the way.... You owe me a bottle of Pepsi Cola. I will accept a check in euro currency. :lol:

Next player (whoever he is, i haven't seen roster in a while and our captain is slacking again)
is going to have some major fun at last.

EDIT: Strange - team Own lost some territory... Can't believe they managed to do it unless it was a sudden berserk attack.

Ok, so we are ready to start fighting, you guys interested in shorter turnsets so that we will all do some fighting ?

Or should gman and I just finish it up? :D

No, it is OK for me to continue with 10 turns, but if anyone feels like playing shorter turn sets I guess they could do that.

Looks to me like we can still make an airport on england even though the romans will take our city there.

I think we don't really need more cavs, so i suggest changing builds to bombers imeadiately on the interturn when we get flight. Except for washington maybe cuz it so nicely makes 80 shields.

Damn, look at Klarius territory :(

Yes, it looks like they have beaten us. I presume the late Ancient Age/early middle Ages was the problem, as otherwise we have done really well.

Clearly missing the slingshot was painful. In addition the Greeks and Chinese built no really useful wonders for us, & we had a long anarchy. I suspect an earlier Golden Age (ie just as entering Middle Ages) would have been much better, and possibly a closer FP?

Anyway, dman, although I don't remember accepting the bet, a gambling debt is a debt of honour so:

pepsi.GIF

all those things, except a closer FP. Our FP is good.

Anyway, they might be just taking the Greek/chinese island or something, so lets not give up and go build those tanks with mobilisation.

btw, grahamiam is up.

So please change builds to the newest units on the interturn when reaching flight / tanks, and use mobilisation with the tanks.

Would also be nice if you could get peace with Romans and get replacable parts from them :)

I suggest we ROP rape england now with our cavs. Probably best to make ROPS with everyone else before doing the rape on england. I think we will make enuogh money to do some city checks.

Looking at that graph, they passed our territory 35 turns before us. They really cannot have flight yet there. Either it is just the spice island, or they found someway for earlier conquest that we did not think off.
Still, it is frightening, i can't immagine them spending their perfectly good cash on rushbuilding units to capture that island. What could it be that we did not think of for early conquest ?

Actually, England is going to do RoP rape with us. Have you forgotten Wacken, there is a english longbow next to our city and 99% guarantee they will declare and raze that city next turn. that was the reason Offa sent refugee worker outside of city borders so we can build an airstrip.

I wouldn't worry about Klarius team at the moment. In past SGOTM team Smackster twice was way ahead of others as far as graphs show and we were beaten both times. So graphs alone don't mean anything.
Lets just play our best game. We are the best team here after all. :thanx:

Bombers!!! I found a really old save of mines. So i loaded and tried bombers. It was somewhat not effective. In average only one bomber out of 3 would hit the target. But even then it is not necessary city defender but either civilian population of city improvement that would be hit. So i had to use 20+ bombers just to get a little dent on a single city. One thing that perhaps is going to be different with our game in my game AI had civil defences built. I am not even sure advance in what technology allows to build civil defence. But I found AIs really love build civil defences as soon as possible since those were built in every town i bombed in my old game.
What i am trying to say it could be more beneficial to have more tanks instead of building bombers. Frankly nobody here has much experience with bombers etc... but what i tried last night i didn't really like. Oh well... i don't know....

That's a ROMAN longbow there if i'm correct.

It will probably destroy the city, or maybe capture it if the Vikings had made any culture in it. We can then build an airstrip on neutral terrain and bring in our cavalries to ROP rape england.

I think we already agreed on building tanks instead of bombers. I do think however we should build bombers over cavalry as soon as we have flight.

Yes, we are the best team, thats for sure :D
Just i wonder what options we could have forgotten to abuse.
Anyway, if all goes well, we can read everything within a week :p (Cmon gman, lets finish this now !)
And lets hope NorthernPike won't be the one doing the conquest, the strongest memory i have from him is how he took half the map on his turn in that 5CC sgotm. :)

Didn't open the save but on Offa's screenshot Longbow has ORANGE uniform and i believe Romans are RED.

I AM COLOR BLIND AFTER ALL!!! :crazyeye: :lol: :lol: :lol:

The longbow looks orange on my computer screen and i guess i should have read better Offa's report. :scan:

So Romans will destroy that town of Vadso (it didn't have any culture when Vikings gave it to us during my turns). Sad part about it that war unhapiness will hit us soon. But we should take their town of Tarentum on spice island and that will make Romans talk to us. and then trade for RPs before the next big war on our terms. (The only problem RP will be the tech we have to research next and Tarentum is not going to be taken in another couple of turns due to lack of reinforcements).

At the same time RoP against England and since England doesn't have nationalism i expect them to extinct by the end of G-mans turns. We will have to keep some Cavalry on English land to scare away settler pairs in future though.

EDIT: I noticed Offa started building workers and settlers in our ICS towns...
I join them during my turns just to get them back during the next turnset :)
Seriously we don't need so many workers and soon we will have more than enough when we start razing enemy towns. just lets put all our corrupted cities to produce wealth.
St. Dman doesn't need factory even with factory it will be useless town. We should rush factory in Houston though. We can also juggle sea tiles between New Orleans, St. Dman and Houston and join another worker to New Orleans. Put it on sea tile to get some gold.

EDIT: @Offa!! Thanks for the Pepsi mate!!!! :)

Yes chaps, that is a roman longbow about to destroy our base in England. However, I just evacuated a worker from it onto unclaimed territory, so fingers crossed we may get our airstrip next turn anyway. I was dreading the romans finding that hideaway, and it nearly escaped a visit. I guess I could have blown all our savings a couple of turns ago to rush a rifle.

I did build a few more workers, only in size 6 ICS towns with food excess, largely with a view to rushing airports etc.

Now flight is imminent, this game should get going. The English island (hopefully), and the Greek/China hidaways can both get airstrips, and then full scale landings.

Re war weariness, we haven't lost any units yet, but the romans destroying a town won't help.

I don't think an ROP rape is needed yet, as we really want that for the finish, and the English should fade quickly enough anyway.

We can't do much rope rape on the finish i think.

ROP rape will only work if we have a city on their lands. We need airstrips before we can rape. Airstrips require a city or a war.

The Japanese can be reached by choppers from the Chinese/Greek Island, but it requires an extra city S,SW of Tarentum. This city should be as soon as we control the island so that we have our choppers base ready before choppers.
So please Gman, get a settler ready :)
