SGOTM8 - Xteam

Has either of our neighbors started the Great Library yet?

Hopefully one of them will start it soon. Unless we could somehow generate a Great Leader in our war with China. But we know how the rng gods feel about the Xteam  Maybe the Capt or bluebox will bring us some rng luck.

I had some RNG luck in sgotm1, but after that it's been the same story as with the rest of the team when it comes to leaders.
Not to mention a few :spear: :(
Anywhat, I'm not superstitious about it, so one of these days our luck will turn and the other teams will fret our 3000BC, pyramid building GLs [pimp]

That's right, it is an RNG after all, isn't it? :D

I'm back! Got it! :)

Sorry about the slight delay. I haven't looked at the save yet, but I plan on playing tomorrow. Hopefully I can look at the save tonight and post some discussion questions so I have a clue about what's going on and what y'all want me to do. (Well, whacking China next seems to be the consensus....)

Welcome back Willow :)

There's no rush so feel free to take your time catching up first.

Questions (some more inane than others :p)

- Do we want to move our northern exploring warriors south into our land, trespassing on the Chinese?
- If we do, will the Chinese get annoyed enough to attack us?
- If we don't, any guess as to the risk of attack anyway? (the two warriors and archer by Chengdu are not comforting)
- Any thoughts on ROPs? We'd need embassies (39 g). Probably don't want to with China since we plan to attack. But we might want to pull in Greece when we attack. We'd need to save some g.
- Where do the next towns go? (I know we have a map somewhere, but if someone knows quickly, I'll not take the time to find it.)
- How much longer do we want to pump out settlers?
- I assume we're sacrificing a worker for a gems colony?
- There's a barb camp in the mountains next to our dye road. Should I worry about our dye road workers?
- Anything else I should think about or be aware of? Besides rioting cities, the settler factory, and such details, of course. :crazyeye:

Gator's idea is to seal off the area near the Iron on the map in this post. So we'll have to move them through Greece and I was thrown out every time I tried. ;)

They have threatened me a few time but I never felt as though they were going to declare, but that is no guarantee. If we follow Gator's plan, we shouldn't have to enter Chinese territory any longer.

If they attack, there isn't much we can do atm anyway. Pray they leave us alone! :p

An ROP with Greece is in the plan as Gator thinks we can collect some Iron as it is detailed in the above post (199).

We have completed our core build. The next settlers should be used to get us closer to the Chinese horses as shown in this post.
WillowBrook said:

The Chinese cities in the initial area of attack are all size 1, so we'll need at least 4 to 5 settlers to replace those towns when they autoraze. We need to build them in a way to keep Greece from filling in the territory as they will be unproductive anyhow.
WillowBrook said:

Yes

During my turn set, they were more interested in NY. But I sent a warrior along with the settler to protect him. We need to take out that barb camp as Barb Horses are beginning to show themselves. I was very worried about it but they all went to NY for some easy Gold.

To build an Army, we will need to complete Barracks and get the pop up to make the cities more productive. First priority, imho, is to get the luxes attached and get cities built to the north to support our offensive against China. Also, worker actions in the core to get some shields going. In the process, an Army of Archers needs to appear from somewhere; and a leader would be nice too, if you can manage it.
Hope that helps. :D

Edited for clarity, I hope! :mischief:

Nice response leif.

Not much to add. Some other cities located nearer to China will give us a buffer (war zone) to keep Chinese troops out of our production core.

Depending on how long it takes to road to the dyes, in comparison to our war buildup, we might be able to use a captured Chinese worker for the gem colony. But that may take too long.

If we are trying to save money for troop upgrades then we definately need to get rid of all Bcamps before the end of the age.

Has anyone started planing where a second core and FP should be located?

I had not thought too much about it. :coffee: Alan is much better at this than I am!

BTW - Before I begin that discussion, in checking for a FP location, the Chinese city of Canton has Horses under it! So that will have to go too. before too long. It isn't that much farther, but I think we want to deny them to the Greeks if we can.

Now, since you asked Gator, I've thought some about it and it depends upon what we think we should do. And please feel free to disagree with what I'm about to say. As we can not move the FP once it is built, I think we have 2 options.
1. To build it around the Canton area and rebuild our own cities at distance 3 and whatever else fits. This provides for a maximum of good grass and BG tiles to make the second core productive without the ocean interfering. This also allows us to abandon our original core should we choose to jump the palace to some other place. The original core is cramped anyway. :crazyeye:

2. To build it in Washington with the intent of jumping the palace at some near time. That would keep the old core productive no matter where we jump to. As I said above, the old core is smallish and, imho, not as nice as the area up north.

The question seems to become which area do we think will be the best production area in the long run, our core or the one up north, if we intend to jump the palace somewhere else?

As we need OCN/2 (6 or 7) cities around the place we intend to jump the palace to, it is going to be a while before it leaves our starting island, I think. So, I guess I would recommend that we think about building the FP where Canton is to provide us 2 cores and the option of jumping the palace somewhere else at some point.

EDIT - And when we do jump the palace, let's hope there is room to spread things out a little in the new place. Rings of 5 or 6 and 7 or 8 would be nice to make the FP more effective. :mischief:

Turn 0: 1250
make thugs in New York content by giving them authority to take people's money :D (they get turned into work crew next turn)

Turn 1: 1225
nothing interesting

Turn 2: 1200
more worker actions, moving scouts north through Greece

IBT
dyes connected! :) much happiness :)
warriors kicked out of Greece - but one makes it to the north side!
another settler from Washington

Turn 3: 1175

turn lux down to 10%, COL in 9, getting 2 gpt

IBT
Alex unhappy again
I suspect the Chinese troops are headed for the barb camp next to our dye road.

Turn 4: 1150
rather uneventful

IBT: barb horse blocks our dye road

Turn 5: 1125
up lux to 20% to placate Washington
check combat calculator for regular warrior v. barb horse on mountain ... looks bad :( only 30% chance of winning
If warrior fortifies on the forest and the b-horse attacks, we have 63% chance of winning. But the horse will probably take out the road instead. The worker clearing jungle by Miami is also vulnerable. I have no clue what is best. So I have my units stay put.

IBT
China wants to talk: trade WM? sure.
The barb horse attacks! The regular warrior wins, down one HP. :)
Barb galley spied off coast...

Turn 6: 1100
Houston founded, bordered by China on 3 sides.
Gems colony founded.
Interesting: Delphi contains elite warrior (barbs, apparently), and Greece is contecting iron to Corinth.

IBT
Alex kicks us out, again
barb horse attacks and looses to Chinese archer
another settler from Washington
barracks completed in Philadelphia and Seattle

Turn 7: 1075
Buffalo founded

IBT
Chinese archer takes out barb camp
Chinese start TGL

Turn 8: 1050
quite uneventful

IBT
Alex gives us another troops warning. He agrees to trade maps.

Turn 9: 1025
even more uneventful

IBT
Alex boots us
Boston and Atlanta complete barracks

Turn 10: 1000
Arghhh! China gets COL one turn before us!  Fortunately, Greece is broke, so they don't have it yet.
I turn down science since we'll get COL next at any level.

Notes
There's a settler in Buffalo. not sure what we want to do with it before we clear out some Chinese.
The three towns building barracks could be switched to other builds; I put them on barracks since I wasn't sure what we wanted.
Those two northern warriors have made progress to get to the northern penninsula, but it's slow.
The other civs have no off-island cities or contacts, but since the home island is now full, hopefully they will soon.

Finally, the save. Enjoy!

Nice job Willow, how does it feel to be back and civving? :goodjob: :goodjob:

Looks like things are shaping up. :D We have a couple of luxs, we have some Barracks done and we have some settlers ready to move north. Now we just need an Army of Archers?

Once we get CoL's, and can trade to Greece for Phil and HBR, we hope, what do we research next? Republic at min?

Roster:
Capt - UP
Nemesis - On Deck
Gator
Bluebox
Leif
Willow
- Just played.

Looks like we need to start thinking about how to take down China as we're kind of surrounded! All that means is that we can attack in all directions!

It's nice to be back. :)
I hope to finish my quartermaster run before school starts. (the cheiftan 100k will just take a bunch of time to complete; the demi-god space race on a huge map should be a fun challenge)

Republic seems a reasonable next tech.

I should point out that China is now building two wonders - taking their two most productive cities out of production. They also have a settler pair on Houston's border; I wonder where they are sending it? :hmm:

If only we had a dozen Archers now! :hammer: But they should be building those wonders for a while, so that means less military! :D

Maybe they are building a galley somewhere near and are sending them afloat?

Good luck with the quartermaster run.

I'm off for GOTM 46, finally!! :mischief:

On a spammish note - we seem to have some serious competition in post-counts this game.

Any comments (on or off topic) are welcome :p

Nice turns, Willow! Good to have those lux! :D

If we want the settler to settle I suggest this site:

xteam-newcity.GIF

  • It's a river tile;
  • It's next to grassland;
  • it's located in the same ring as Miami.

Do we have to prepare a QSC report?
