SGOTM8 - Xteam

Good summary, Gator! At least, I hope it's a good summary! :p Perhaps the main discussants (is that a word?) will have something to say on that.

I've been attempting to get to space on a huge world at demigod difficulty, and it's taking all my time. I just started reseraching fission, so switching gears back to this game is a little difficult! :)

Not just a summary, it's something like a game plan. :goodjob: I especially like the Rome-Japan option and saving reputation for ROPs.

Thanks, but feel free to make other suggestions, especially in comparison to some of the test games that were played. I did not have any time to play a test game.

One thing I thought about after I posted is that the Rome-Japan war could be declared on either party as long as we can bring the other one into the war. Rome has the upper hand right now with the legions, but Japan will have the upper hand when they get Chivalry and sams.

We also need to keep an eye on who builds the Great Library and when it's built. It may not have a long useful life if it's built on our island unless we specifically hold off on capturing it.

@Willow (HOF game) - are you able to maintain a 4turn research rate and are you getting any help from the other civs as trading partners? On the lower levels that I played I did not get much help from the other civs once we hit the Middle Ages. That was why I used all scientific opponents so that I could gain extra techs at the age change, especially the Modern Age one. Good luck with your game. My 100K HOF game is still on hold until I can find enough time to play.

Thanks Gator, sounds like a plan to me as well. :goodjob:

On starting foreign wars. China has a city on an island near Roman territory. Unfortunately, it isn't very helpful. When we choose to start a war "over there", we really need to try and pick who we think will win. We should think about bringing England in as well. The more the "loser" loses, the more likely we get cities in a peace deal. In that vein, perhaps we should wait until Japan has Chivalry, or we give them Chivalry, before we start anything. Besides, it would be nice to see Rome get a little smaller! :mischief:

Of course, this is going to require some Gold, so we have some conquering to do first, imho. :D

The other thing to keep an eye out for is Greece settling the islands to our west. It would be nice to get something over there to expand on. So before we make a peace with Greece, please check by counting cities.

Good luck Nemesis!!

And good luck Willow in the HOF!

I'm not attempting a really fast win, though I've gotten some help from the AI. In the MA, at least 3 or 4 required techs and most of the optional ones. Only the corporation in the IA of the required techs. We'll see about the modern ages - I brought the biggest civs in with me.

There are currently no huge demigod space wins in the HOF, so any date will get me a first place for at least a short while. :p I'm at 1500 just starting fission at 9 turns (first modern-age tech - I want the UN). I expect I will beat 1788 if the AI research a few things for me; 1788 is currently second on the demigod SS any-size-map table.

There are no scientific civs in my game; I was afraid of the AI getting away from me. I have little experience playing at this level, and this is my first game on a huge map, so I've played conservatively (i.e. - selling new techs for ridiculous prices to keep the AI poor and happy ;) )

I plan to go after the Internet next and kick off my Golden Age. Come to think of it, that might lead to 4-turn research for a while. I've never actually attempted a space race at any level in C3C, and only did it a couple of times in Vanilla (though it was my preferred victory condition in Civ 2), so some of the techs I've almost never researched.

@Willow - don't forget to use scientists & to mm for beakers.

Yes, usually we win the spam award by discussing my house building or someone's work place or something

...or multiple posts like this one...

We are over 100 posts behind Team Cutlery, so perhaps we need to discuss what we should discuss?!?!  :mischief:

Good luck Nemesis!

100 post behind. What on earth could they be talking about?

With a name like Cutlery they must be trading recipes. :p

They claimed, before they started, that they were on the search for kitchen utensils. Someone suggested they disband their settler, but I guess they didn't.

Hope you are caught up at work and getting some sleep! :groucho:

I've often found it's hard to do both...

My country is full of scientists! :D But some mm is just too tedious - I'm simply aiming for a win.

I'm also getting a little experience with modern warfare! The Mongols (located on another continent) just abused their ROP with me. though it didn't do them much good. They landed a stack of units, which I surrounded with infantry and tanks (since we weren't at war, I didn't attack), and then they declared and proceeded to loose most of those units in fruitless attacks. :crazyeye: Their only successfull attacks have been from their bombers; I need to figure out the best way to defend against those and to go after the carriers carrying the bombers.

In the few modern era games I have found myself in, my Bombers proved to be very useful in chasing down carriers and, when lethal bomberd is on, dealt them a tough blow. Some fighters mixed in can also help against Bomber attacks. Although, fighters are needed to site the carriers so the Bombers can do their thing.

I hope Nemesis is doing alright. :hmm: Capt. prolly gave him a heart attack!!

Gator is dodging hurricanes again. Katrina is nearing so keep your head down.

EDIT - Spelling and grammar?? :crazyeye:

This storm should stay way south of me, so we're just expecting a long weekend of rain. But this is the start of the really busy season for the hurricanes.

A long weekend of rain, sounds like perfect civ-weather to me!

Must be nice not to be in the line of fire for once. ;) :D

Well, fortunately, they offered peace before the second level of WW set in. Unforetunately, I didn't have the fun of tracking down their carriers beforehand. But WWII has broken out, and I've managed to keep all the luxes flowing in. The warring won't be good for getting help with research, but it should make the space race a little easier. I'll get my Golden Age in 1610 with the internet - looking forward to that; I've never had a modern age Golden Age before.

My internet access may be spotty the next few days as I return to school, so don't expect too many posts. But I'll do what I can. :D

. - Just played! :salute:
This was last Sunday. Team capt., you may have to make a decision. :salute: If Nemesis is still busy, Willow could play, she hasn't put her hands on the game at all yet.

We've already lost the flow of our game by now. We should better  to regain the stream of thought and :king:. I think strategic planning for upcoming turns was very good so far :goodjob:

Actually, Willow played here.
Nemesis reponded with a got it, will play Wednesday here.

I've sent Nemesis a PM but haven't heard back yet. I decided to give him until Noon today, my time, and if I hadn't heard, to declare a skip. Nemesis has played with us before and never missed a turn set, so I hope everything is OK with him.

We shall see what happens this morning, as it is should be late evening in Australia now. :D
