After a look at the save I support the Seleucia plan, too. There are 3 Roman and 3 Japanese cities on that island. Because it is so difficult to get a Roman mainland city, I'd prefer DOA with JPN.

We could gift them a few other cities, e.g. on the Tientsin island, beforehand. Re-conquering Viroconium, Ceasarea, Lutetia from JPN would also mean to automatically reduce the citizens by one each.

I presuppose it's easier to get a mainland city from JPN.
Can we gift cities with resisters in them? I am trying to remember if that is OK? If it is, that is an excellent idea.:goodjob:

EDIT - Those cities currently have up to a 16% flip risk as well.

With a little bit MM we could still run the state with 30% lux, which means ~ +90gpt. :groucho:

Yes of course, we can.

The plan will have been a really stupid idea when they flip back to Rome the turn we have gifted them to JPN.

Here's my look at culture:
We're not going to reduce flip risks much anyhow, so that shouldn't be the sole reason to build it.
Therefore, I think we should build temples in a few of our coastal cities that aren't completely corrupt, after we finish Courthouse (if needed) and Duct. After the temple (or sometimes before, depending on coastal tiles available before cultural expansion), we can build a harbour, which will aloow us to grow to or near size 12, then join workers. The workers to the NE of our main continent is standing by to do just that.

Since we're building Wealth and not going for high score, irrigating just to get more taxmen, is pretty useless in our least corruptive cities in the GA. Remember we get the benefit of markets/banks on our wealth income, but not on our taxmen, so I actually mined a lot up north around Area 51 and our income actually increased.

I'm not sure I mentioned, but Japan has MT, so maybe selling them Salt is a bit risky?

I'm sorry about this. While I suspected this might be the case, I was pressed on time and only had a few more turns to play

I agree on the Seleucia plan, didn't think they'd accept that. Must be oil on the icy island to the north of England.

If we gift and then declare, the lost cities for Japan should count for our war effort as well???

I just had a more detailed look at this. Japan wants WM + around 600 gold for Navigation. I'm not sure we need to spend Gold for a tech that is uselss to us. What was interesting is that they will not trade for saltpeter! Wonder why they don't trust us?

I was thinking about your point Capt. If we give them Saltpeter, it helps them to grind down Rome and allows us to cut them off when we go after them. We will undoubtedly face some unwanted Cavs but as long as we can produce enough to defeat them? :hmm:

If Japan loses too many cities I think it'll sue for peace and may give Rome MT for it. Rome with Cavs will only make things harder, no? :twitch:

At this point, Rome is the chief goal and anything that reduces their military is good, imho.

Once we take the Roman cities on the Seleucia island, we can declare on Japan, shutting off the salt and taking their holdings there. Perhaps we can sue for peace with both of them and, perhaps, see a couple of cities on their continent? :mischief:

Sorry, Capt, didn't mean it as a criticsm, only as a hint for the next player. You played a really good turnset.

I don't understand your question, sorry. :(

 I can handle criticism. Couple criticism with poor display of tact and a touch of arrogance and I'll go off like a rocket. However, although I did take your comment partly as criticism, it was very constructive as such ;) You don't get far in life if you can't handle constructive criticism :)

What I meant by the question was this:
We gift cities to Japan and declare war. Later that war, a city flips, but to Rome instead of us.
I thought that in such a case, the AI will look at what it had before the war started, then look at what it has now. What the AI will give for peace is then determined by military strength in addition to how the war is going in terms of what it has now compared to when the war started.

Well, that wasn't much clearer...
Maybe one of the EENGLEETCH speaking natives will have understood what I meant and come to my aid... [pimp]

Perhaps what you are trying to say is that we could receive a two-fer benefit. Japan loses a city by flip to Rome and we take it from Rome, so both those civs feel the loss and we benefit?

Interesting comcept. I am not sure that a flip will count because I've never seen a civ declare war because of a flip. :hmm: Doesn't mean it hasn't happened though??:crazyeye:

Progress report: Only got thru 3 turns. Made peace deal with ROM and we have 3 cavs in Seleucia after rushing harbor and a barrack there first. Buying fullprice (80gold) worker is helping.

I've got to take my parents to the airport at 5:30am so I'm done playing for the evening.

Oh yeah, here's something for the team to think about.

 This looks like a very good progress report!!

Don't need to think too much about London, just be thankful it is ours. Now we have to keep it!! :mischief:

Hope the airport trip is a safe and smooth one. :coffee: :)

Then, go get 'em!!

Good luck with the Seleucia operation!! Oh, and everything else too....:hammer:

I bet we use the :woohoo: smilie nore than the other teams.
Should we ask Alan to add another statistic to the leaderboard page? At least we'll win one award then, most optimistic team :p

Now if only we could have several "woohoo"s to pick from that would not all move in sync with each other ... and smileys that wouldn't stick out their tongues all at the same time.... :p

24 Hours without a post, a nice vacation...

Some homework on war weariness in Democatic Government which also, imho, applies to Republic. Please pay particular attention to paragraph 6 through the end. It seems to apply to what we are trying to accomplish. ;)

In particular, setting our lux sldier to zero and starving our own citizens to maintain our Gold supply seems counterintuitive, but if it works for Moonsinger, who am I to question. :mischief:
