Spoiler :
Is it Bxg8?

It looks nasty for black.

Why yes it is. It's not only nasty, it's immediately decisive. Black might as well take the free bishop with Bxe3+ but after Kh1 there are no good options. Qf7+ (and fxg6 first in some lines) are just decisive. Best line for black is; Kg7, Qf7+, Kh6, f6 and the rook will be lost not to mention the unfun position of the black king and total lack of counterplay. At around +6.00 black might as well resign and that's if he found this, the best line.

I beat Col!! [party] :woohoo: [party]

Spoiler :

Not our Col of course :D

My bishops were dominating this game.

Spoiler :

Position after move 20
ColVsNarz.jpg

For his last move he just dropped a piece but his goose was cooked regardless.

The story behind this game is that originally WhiteEagle invited the wrong Col to his tournament. :D (the real Col is in it too though & more than likely I'll be facing him in round II :scared: )

Nice work!

I notice GreyGame - my best win - has been disqualified for cheating. Does that make my win better or worse?

I've been looking at some of the games. Very interesting. It motivated me to play a few games against my PC - something I hadn't done in months although I do tactics puzzles - and I was promptly smashed! :)

Nice work!
Thanks. :)

Depends on whether he was cheating in your game I'd say.

You do know that all rook endgames are drawn? (Especially against 2600 players :))
:p Not if I can get to the Lucena position. :)

Looks like homeboy's taken another vacation so I'm gonna be waiting again to see whether I can win...

I feel sick. :vomit:

I used the analysis board to confirm that I had a forced mate - I had done this a few days earlier as well, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything. But when I went back to the game, I executed the second of the two moves, rather than the first. Now I'm not only going to lose a rook, but the match as well. Game is here.

Too bad, too - this was going to be the second game in a row that I felt really good about. The other one is here. Again, I don't necessarily feel that I was particularly strong, but my opponent made some mistakes that I was able to capitalize on.

It happens Pete, don't beat yourself up. When I look over my games post-mortem (especially my blitz games :cringe: ) I am often appalled at what I missed.

Talking about mouse slips...

I played g5 instead of g6 :ack: by accident. I managed to hold on pretty well for 18 moves though until I made another error on g5 actually with Bxg5. In retrospect the real ender for me was 19. ... h6, I should have played Kf6. I subsiquently made a few more blunders & the game was over.

Ah, blitz! :crazyeye:

But yeah, in slow games I try to triple check my moves & keep my mouse away from the "submit move" button until I'm sure what I'm doing.

Maybe I should play some more Live Chess when I get done my RL stuff... might just help my tactical sense after all. I wouldn't mind having a game vs. Narz or Peter or col for that matter. Might just learn a thing or two...;)

I'd be happy to play you in a Live game sometime. You can message me on gmail. I can't guarantee I can always play (alot of time when I'm online I'm playing Cities & Knights of Catan [see sig] which is a real time game that can take over an hour at a time, depending on how slow my opponent's are) but at some point I will be able to.

If I'm reading that correctly, you two played 14 moves today!

Edit: I erased a comment that could have been a violation of the cheating rules on chess.com. Sorry!

I'll message you after I finish moving (and after I get rid of any friends who come by to see the place before the party on April 30th...). Thanks Narz! Just be sure to point out where I went wrong after the game, ok? I want to use it to learn, not just to have fun! ;)

(Though having fun is a nice side benefit!)

Yup, we probably would have finished if I hadn't went to bed early.

No worries, I haven't been online in 15 hours so didn't see anything.

Bah, I used to routinely finish games in a day. :hammer:

In fact, one of my tourney games was played at lightning speed. (All of my game as black against Mrt144 and the latter parts of my game as white. Of course, he played at that pace as well, so none is lost...)

Fairly proud of this game. Of course I got a huge early opening advantage when black underestimated my threat of Nb5 & then let me take his rook (it was either that or lose castling privileges, I'm a fairly big materialist in chess so I definitely would have opted to save the rook).

Stupid chess.com computer analysis says my 18. Bxh7+ is an "inaccuracy" and that the best move is 18. b4??. B!tch please (pardon my language)! Against another computer maybe (and even that I'm skeptical of) but not against another amateur opponent (or even a Master level one). With Bxh7 black has to be ultra-careful to avoid mate should he accept the bishop & even so white wins a lot of material. I don't know how the engine comes off giving me only +2.17.

As you can see I have an unhealthy relationship with the analysis engine. I feel like it's some sort of hyper-critical father-figure for whom I'm never good enough.
