Thanks for the analysis, Narz. I'm thinking my play is improving, as I just created a trap for an enemy's queen (I really hope my opponent takes the bait!).

PS. I have to wait to get a membership at Chess.com. I was planning to get one next month, but with my business losing it's domain tomorrow because I don't have the funds to renew it, I have to get it back first thing on payday.

I've lost horribly in this line as black too. Its fatal for black to be passive in the Pirc Austrian Attack.

I think a6, Bb4 then d7 and Qc1 are an invitation to attack. The bishop sac was pretty clear. Black's pieces just cant do anything. At the end I hadnt decided whether to move the knight across or the bishop out of the way to allow Rf1. I think mate cant be far away.

It is fatal to be too passive in most openings. Bd7, Bg4 and then Bd7... what on earth is he doing? As for mate not being far away, it's too far for me to see it. Mate in 9 according to the computer.

Lol - too far away for me too. I thought it might be 3 or4. I couldnt see how he could defend at the end.

I think my game against alicorn is almost over. i believe I will win against him. :D

Just played a fun two minute game with questionable play from both sides, with a pretty ending. :)

I like two minute games. It's enough time for me to physically move pieces considering the bit of lag Chess.com's Live Chess has, but not enough time to think, so you get crazier things than in correspondence, where it's harder to attack.

I won my game against alicorn for our team! My rating also rose to 1248 as a result.

Congratulations to the win. You played better in this game than I have seen you play before. Unfortunately you still miseed that one of your pieces was unguarded and could just be taken off for free. I want you to look through the game and see if you can find it. Than I want you to tell me what move you could have played instead to aviod having your piece unguarded. Fortunately your opponent missed it but if he had not the game might have been lost right there. You did well in spotting when his pieces were unguarded and could be taken off.

What you both missed was that black was winning after you played 22. Bxd4. Black has a checkmate in a few moves. I want you to try to find how black should play in order to checkmate white's king and report your findings here.

I have something else to brag about: A new trophy from alicorn! Here it is. Nice to have the "Great Endgame Play" trophy in my case after working hard on it!

Here's a position from one of my recent blitz games.

Mate in two

Spoiler :

1. pxR any
2. d8=B#

Queen works too (and in blitz I have it set to auto-queen because otherwise I lose five seconds fumbling around choosing) but getting a same-colored bishop with mate is more fun. :D

Ok, no more procrastinating, have to decide on my move against Yeekim.

I found a different mate in 2.

Spoiler :
Rd5+ Kb6 a5++ and I like mine better :p

Here's a tactics problem from my recent game in our First Blood match:

Yes, white is already up a rook so the game is over, but I still enjoyed playing the combo.

Spoiler :
Qg6+ K moves Nf6 was the fun move :)

Yeah, yours works too & is visually pretty.

On the way to that I missed like three mates in four, but it's blitz so I excuse myself. :D

And nice one. We may just win the FB matchup. :)

Narz, how many games do we have to play against our opponents in the team matchup in First Blood? I'm asking because I won my first game, and now I'm playing my opponent again.

With pleasure Narz!

My rank has also gone up to 1308, thanks to Azza (azzaman333 on Chess.com) timing out in our non-tournament match! woot! woot! Thanks for the win, Azza! Love for you to accept my friend request on Chess.com!

Here's one I played true-correspondence style (no board, just back & forth messaging) vs. my friend Leon from real life . He was the best player in my college (not saying much, the school had 1,200 students) and for my whole freshman year I couldn't manage a win against him (sophmore year before I dropped out I beat him a few times to the point where we were about even).

Anyway, somewhat dissapointing game against him where I started out with a fairly large advantage but then the game slowly wound down to a draw.

According to the comp 39. ... Rxg3+ is a blunder but I can't see how I'm supposed to save my knight.

Anyway, here's the game :

Here's one I played against a handheld chess computer I bought for my friend in South Carolina. I was a bit disappointed since the machine's rating was supposed to be 1750 and I beat it on the highest level (didn't write that one down, this one is from L65 out of 75). According to Fritz I missed a mate in 8 or 9 at one point (checked the wrong way with my bishop in the early middlegame). Fun game nonetheless.

Rh5 Kc7 25. Bd3 Rf8 26. Rf5 Rxf5 27. Bxf5 {I stopped writing down the moves at this point, I checkmated black about 20, 25 moves later} 1-0

My game against L72 wasn't that exciting. I won a pawn towards the end of the middlegame & grinded out a win in the endgame. I played black in that game & it was an uneventful 1. d4 game. However I had one really awesome game that I did write down the moves to but was lost in my friend's messy apartment. I was white and black played the french defense and I totally bound "him" up & won in a rather spectacular fashion (with a knight move into the a8 corner that ultimately led to an unstoppable mate in 4 or 5).
