Yes, I am new to the demo-games.... I've been learning and observing the course of actions over the past month and now I feel that I'm qualified to run for Elder of our great nation. I believe our nation needs someone with initiative, someone with guts, someone with the know-how to rocket our beggining days into legend. I am that someone.
If I were elected:

The most important aspect of the first few turns is getting to know the lay of the land. Knowing where resources and suitable city locations are is paramount to our success as a nation. Therefor my first choice of the city's production shall be a scout.

With the building of the scout hopefully giving the city enough time to grow larger, my next focus of production will be a worker. With the city larger than the intial start, it should be a short build time to send them out to start utilizing the land around us.

The next step I will take is to ask the citizens of our mighty nation what they want from our capital. Do you want another worker? Perhaps a warrior to defend our borders against the barbarian hordes? Maybe starting a powerful wonder to ensure our cultural power might tickle the nation's fancy.
I leave this up to you, oh great citizens. The success of our nation lies not on the backs of our leaders; but on the backs of our populace.

Nothing in this world can even hope to match our might, and I hope that you, the people, will elect me as Elder, so I can ensure that power will rest in our laps.

Vote Shattered for Elder in the 4000bc elections and I shall prove to all of you and our leaders that greatness need not be dreamed about, it will be achieved.

Please ask any questions you can think of. I am open to criticism and praise. I will answer all inquiries to the best of my ability.

Thank you all.

A question:

If the cheftian's plans do not incorporate your original build queue, how well do you plan to follow the cheftian's request?

Also,

How do you micromanage your citizens in cities, do you emphasize certain things, or do you play around with each citizen until you get your desired output, or do you simply let the AI work out that sort of stuff?

I don't think that's a good idea. Getting the worker out as soon is possible is the only thing important in these first turns. Without a worker the effect of a growing population is minimal as they'll only be working unimproved tiles, that at best give 2 hammers and 2 food to support the citizen. With a worker, our best tile could be improved, probably a food resource. Working one improved resource is way better than working two unimproved tiles. Therefor building a worker first is the only thing that really makes sense in most cases (except if you have some really good unimproved tiles at your disposal.)

To answer Ice2k4's questions:
1. I will listen to the chieftan's request and try my best to come to a suitable agreement. The chieftan does have more power than the elder, therefor in the beggining I would most likely see his/her orders with more precedence than my own.
2. In the very beggining I plan to support growth more than anything. Food tiles will be worked, leaving production at the wayside till our mighty capital reaches a sufficient size. Most likely at around city growth 4 or higher will I move some citizens from food to production. But of course this method all depends on the land around us. If we are surrounded by flood plains than my method will have the greatest appeal. If we are surrounded by hills and forests, well then I would most likely find a balance between production and food that would best benefit our nation.

Once again.. that idea all bases on what our enviroment will be around our city. I still support getting a scout out before a worker for the sheer fact that the worker will build much more quickly with a higher city level. With my emphasis on food rather than production the worker shall be built quite quickly. Not only that, but with a scout out there looking for villages, theres a decent chance that we might recieve a worker from one. Just think... TWO workers improving our land will be much more sufficient off the bat than just one worker. Of course, that depends on chance and the enviroment. I can't really imagine what to expect without first seeing our situation. And that won't happen till the game is created. You do make a good point dutchfire, but I'm more supportive on the emphasis of exploration and village hunting. I believe that if we can nail the villages before the opponents we shall be MUCH better off than if we wait. Free techs, money, combat units, workers; what more can I say? Say we manage to get bronze working within the first 5 turns the scout is out. Not only do we save many turns from researching, but we also have a scout out to show us where to resources lie. Yes, the working of our land is highly important, but I dont believe it comes before exploiting the land to its fullest extent.

I don't remember the chances exactly, but I don't think you can get settlers on prince from goodie huts.

Hmmm.. You sure about that? I don't remember if they did appear or not...

Pretty sure that warlord is the highest level where you can get settlers.

I see now.. Well it looks like I was wrong.. I will change my post accordingly

I have been playing Civ since I was a youngling. (around the age of 11 and up) I have beat Civ 1, 2, 3, and 4 in every which way possible. I'm not bragging about that though, as many of my opponents have probably done the same. What I can offer is tons of expirience and knowledge of the Civ universe. When I first saw the announcement for this demo-game back in January, I was flabergasted at the prospect of ACTUALLY playing a civ. I immediately signed up and tried my best to involve myself with the current running game. I am very excited about playing the demo-game and am willing and more than able to dedicate much of my time to it. I have played countless online forum rpg/games, (avp, gta, dbz, kingdom, etc.) and I believe that I can co-ordinate my plans with the other leaders and populace to find the best way to proceed throughout the game. I'm very adaptive, able to flucuate and change to suit the needs of the nation. Though I have no previous DG experience, this appointment to office will help me learn and add to my knowledge of the Civ universe. I plan to show that age and number of posts mean nothing when it comes to ability and competence in action. With my ideas and the populaces support, I believe we can make this a DG to remember. I plan to take a different route than many of my opponents, as stated in posts above. I believe the key to success is growth, growth, growth. The more people, the more tiles worked. The more tiles worked, the higher the growth and production. Combine this with certain chosen wonders, our cities (mainly the capital) will flourish and grow. I plan to make our capital a city hungered for by other civs. We shall reign supreme and we shall be great.

If anyone would like to talk to me personally my msn is dark_saber_omega@hotmail.com

I hope to hear from some of you! I would be more than glad to answer any and all questions you have.

Salutations,
