Library of MGE & 2.42 Standard .TXT & .GIF Files

Several people have had similar problems with TXT and GIF files in the last 2 months. You must play with the standard .TXT files, but sometime, scenarios and mods may get mixed in and/or accidently replace the standard file(s) in in your root Civ2 directory. If this happens, you should restore the original files during your GOTM gameplay. But.... some people don't have the right files. So, this thread will provide them, which you can use as a reference or replacement.

Be sure to match the correct version: this thread will contain the standard text (.TXT) and graphic (.GIF) files. There will be 2 sets of files: one for Classic (2.42), followed by one for MGE (5.4.0f).

When you play a GOTM, here are some good things to do:

2.78 (CiC), 5.4.0f (MGE, patch 3), and ToT:

1. Make a subdirectory somewhere (typically in your Civ2 root directory) for your GOTM game.
2. Copy the starting .SAV into it.
3. Copy a standard rules.txt and cities.txt into it.
4. Start Civ2 and load the .SAV in it.
5. Make all your game saves to it.

2.42 (Classic) and 2.62 (FW)

1. The prior method (for MGE) will not work.
2. You must do it the hard way.... manually copy a standard rules.txt to your Civ2 root directory.
3. 2.42 and 2.62 versions will not look in the .SAV file directory, and will ignore any rules.txt in there (it only looks in the Civ2 root directory!!).
4. Use Cedric Greene's 2.42 ---> MGE patch to Upgrade, if you want the benefits of MGE.

PLEASE DO NOT POST TO THIS THREAD!

Well, at least until I remove this statement. It will take some time to sort & upload everything, and I need consecutive threads to keep it tidy.
Thanks.

----> PS, Instead of posting questions here, please post in this thread.

All the posts & uploads & hours of work in this thread have been deleted, as I just found out. The material will be put into large zip files (by admin request) in the next day or two.
