The real question is should I bother getting this? When CIV 5 first come out it was a piece of crap. By my 5th game I was winning on deity with a boring, repetitive clicking, and nothing happening. 1UPT and an incredibly dumb AI (seriously how did that AI even survive ALPHA testing let alone BETA), broken diplomacy, and the happiness factor. It just felt like they took everything they had ever learned to do with CIV and thrown it out, CIV 5 was in no way a successor to CIV 3 and 4. After all these patches and expansions has it became a playable CIV game or should I just wait for CIV 6?

Only you can answer that. But I can tell you my view on vanilla was the same, I dropped it after about 2 weeks. I picked up G & K and that made all the difference. The game is well worth the civ name with G & K and beyond. You will be waiting for several years for 6, so I suggest you try the demo on steam.
