Should I buy this game now?

I was supposed to buy the game at its release but something came up. Now that I have the time to buy the game and actually play it, I'm wondering after reading all these bugs and unable to install properly problems, should I buy the game now and just wait for a patch?

This is not a question for the bug forum. Anyway, as with the dozens of similar threads asking this question: Make up your own mind.

If you're going to wait for the patch, you might as well get it now while you have the time. And while there are people who experience bugs, there are many more people who are happily playing the game without any problems. If you have a decent system, just go for it.

Look, there is exactly one way to make absolutely sure that you won't be able to play the game until after the patch, and that is not buying the game until after the patch. So why not buy it right away? Sure, you may experience some bugs, but how is that worse than not getting to test it at all?

If you can wait, then wait. The game is very buggy at this time. If you really have the itch to play Civ though, the game is still lots of fun, and very entertaining. I couldn't wait to play it, so I pre-ordered. The same things happened when civ III came out (well, maybe not quite so many bugs, but still a lot of them). Civ III was released in 2001. The game now in 2005 feels completely different from the way it did back then. Smoother, more sophisticated. Civ IV will undoubtedly be the same. Its still raw and rough right now. I don't mind documenting and reporting bugs, so long as they get fixed. Its worth waiting for, and the franchise still exists because lots of other players also feel its worth waiting for.

You could be in the lucky majority that can run it well. Are you a glass half empty or full kind of person?

I have the game, and I upgraded my memory from 512 MB to 1 GB, and now it runs fine. There are occassional crashes, especially in the endgame, but not always, and not that often, perhaps once or twice a day, when I play for hours.

When you don't have at least 1 GB of RAM, than it is probably not a good idea to buy the game, I think it will never really be playable with less than 1 GB, with patch or without. When you have enough memory, chances are good, that the game will run and perform good.

What? 1GB of RAM? Server memory huh. Right now I only have 512 memory. Didn't know that the game crashes in 512.

Mine was playable with 512 MB, never had a crash, only the occational slowdown for a couple of seconds. Got myself another 512 MB, and now it's running great!

But like I said, the only way to find out if it works on your machine is to buy it. If you are going to buy it later anyway, why not buy it today??? I just don't get it!

I have played a game with four opponents till 1992 without problems with only 256 MB RAM on a 3 1/2 years old computer. But for larger maps i probably will need more RAM.
