okay. i downloaded the trial. i want MORE!!!!!!!! this game seems awesome so i prolly gunna buy it!! but i have a few questions

1) how do i get new resources?? like i know aboot researching to see the mine, but how do i get them??? do they HAVE to be inside my territory and if so how do i get the gold, iron, horses etc. from them??? also, once i have the required tech, and the resources will i be able to build the thing i want(ie swordsmen) when i double click on the city and then will it appear in the production thingy?? also, attacking cities. I was Germany, went to war with Russia. St. Petersbourg was close cutting me off from northern part of the map. i wanted to take it but he had spearmen in there. i'd attack with spearmen only to find out they defend best!!! so i want to know what units will have success when attacking cities. i also want to know how to get more food in my cities, increase production and make my sciences research faster!! if y'all vets could give me the advice i need to know how to do these things i'd be very greatful. :) thanx for your help!!

but how do i get them???
Build a road to them.
will it appear in the production thingy??
Yes
i want to know what units will have success when attacking cities
Units with a high "attack" number. It should be in the format of X.Y.Z, X being attack.
i also want to know how to get more food in my cities, increase production and make my sciences research faster!
More food: Granaries help, and irrigating the tiles that the citizens are working should help too.
More production: Mining the tiles and building factories and power plants should help.
More science: Crank up the science slider and build libraries and universities
if y'all vets could give me the advice i need to know how to do these things i'd be very greatful.
99% of the time, you ask a question here, you will get a good answer.

Oh, and welcome to CFC! [party]

EDIT:

99% of the time TOMOYO will beat me to your question too..

LOL oh my. and thanx fer the warm welcome all! :D i also wanted to know: (im assuming citizen = worker) wat does it mean to have a citizen 'work' a tile. in the game encyclopedia it said to get ure workers to 'work' the tiles with the resource. wat does this mean???

citizen = population point

Go to the city screen and you will see bread, shields, and gold displayed on the map part. Click on these to move your citizens around. A tile with things on it is worked.

I have no idea on the second question and will give nameless a chance to answer it. :D

before i forget: how do i trade and how do i tell how much a sci tech costs - it only shows the amount of time to get. up until a lil while ago i didnt even know the cost :p also, is there any way for me to make a cities boarders expand faster, this increasing territory?? and just to be sure the white line inside the blue one is the city limits rite?? again thanx fer ure answers :D

so if i drag one of them peeps onto a tile with gold will it give me gold???

In the city screen (right-mouse click a city and press "zoom to _____" you click on a part of the map and the people will work there. If you do that on a tile with gold, yes, it will increase your commerce and give you gold.

You can't buy techs except from other nations. To trade with another nation, click on the little "D" next to the minimap and select a civ to talk too. There you can bargain with foreign countries. Make the borders grow by building cultural buildings like temples, cathedrals, colluseums, and some wonders.

so the only thing gold is really used for is to get bargaining leverage and to increase the production of cities?? and does anyone have tips fer going to war?? like when i should, why, and wat kinda units i should attack them with, and wether i should sack the city or take it. ususally i go to war if i like the cities name :P but when i get the full game, i needs to no wat to do in the wars

Gold is also useful for:
a) getting more gold
b) upgrading units
c) funding deficit research
d) funding deficit entertainment :p
e) maintainence

As for warring, attack with units with a high attack, and keep the city if you think you can keep it.

okay so waddoes it mean to/wat is

a)upgrade units(how)
b) funding deficit entertainment
c)funding deficit research

In order to upgrade units, you need
  • Barracks in the city the unit is in
  • Any resources needed for that unit
  • Any tech needed for that unit
  • Enough Gold to upgrade the unit (Note: If you try to mass upgrade (ctrl-U on the unit) and you don't have enough gold, you won't upgrade any units)

As for funding deficit whatever, that means that you run at a minus gold per turn (losing money) instead of a plus gold per turn (getting money). So if you have enough gold banked, you can be losing gold each turn, and it be okay because you can afford it.

okay.. so do ye all have any stories of stuff tht happened to ya in the game tht i mite encounter??

oh another question lol... i bet im gettin annoying... can someone give me an example of an upgradeable unit and when u are able to upgrade do u have to build old units then upgrade them or once u upgrade 1 unit u can build them from now on... or is it that once u reach tht age u can automatically build tht unit and upgrading is for existing units only??

Once you learn a tech with a unit associated with it, you start building that unit. Two exceptions: One, you do not have the resources necessary in that city to build the unit. For example, you need Rubber to build Infantry. If you have just founded a city, and you don't have access to your resources, you won't be able to build that unit. Assuming you haven't learned Nationalism yet, you could be looking at a spear man in that city as the defender.

Two, it's your Unique Unit. If you haven't had a Golden Age yet, you can always build your UU, since that unit winning will trigger the GA.

And don't think of yourself as annoying...we're here to help, after all.

That'll be $49.99...the bill's in the mail. ;)

Example: You have just started a game. You can build warriors and archers. You research bronze working. Now you can build warriors, archers, and spearmen. Next you research Iron working. You find iron in your territory and build a road to it. You can't build warriors any more; but you can build swordsmen, archers, and spearmen. When one of you warriors (built before iron working) is active, if you press U it will ask "upgrade warrior to swordsman for X gold". Yes, will cause the upgrade to occur and deduct the amount of gold from your treasury.

When you research Fedualism you will be able to upgrade spearmen to pikemen.

archers come with WARRIOR CODE.

it can upgrade to LONG BOWMAN once you researched INVENTIONS

okay... in one of me games i had a lot of military--mainly cause th cities wouldnt stop building them!!i had 1 gold source and roads connecting my cities, and roads to resources... how do i get the gold and keep it!?!?! will building more cities reduce the gold drain the military causes>??

also how do i get citizens to work the tiles??? how do i know what tiles to work?? tell me all ya know aboot working tiles in general(ie:wat it is, why do it, where to do it etc.)
