Should I disable tech trading or not?

Should I or shouldn't I use it? Since there are like 10-15 times the amount of techs that vanilla had, techs will be valued differently. How does this affect the game? What about resource-for-tech trades? I found those to be game-breaking when I last played (v22).

Lol. I disabled tech trading in my game.

I know. I'm asking because I'm a turn away from writing.

Anyone?

v25 :mischief:

The AI trades techs just like you do with Tech brokering On.

I turn Tech Diffusion "Off" anymore. And have for several versions now. The Ai isn't hindered if Tech trading and Brokering are "On". If you fall behind with TD Off you Have To Trade to catch up. Different play styles again.

Tech trading makes game to easy.

Discover 1 tech that nobody has. Trade with everybody. Now you. are tech lider

AI do the same but you can doo all of it in one turn (before others AI players would even "know" about it ).

Also remember human player will be always more smart how to exploit such option.

Personally I don like tech trading but i like tech transfer system from Realism Invictus mod. It works when you have open borders with other civ that have tech with you work on now. In that case you will have + 50% science bonus to discover that tech (from open borders)

I don' think we should replace tech trading, but I do think this would be a neat extra mechanic. It could also be extended to provide tech rate modifiers when researching techs that are known by a civ you have a large number of espionage points against (larger than they have towards you, with the modifier depending on the ratio to some extent)

Right of passage (advanced diplomacy) could also give some bonus (much less than open border) like + 10% :science: and free trade agreement should give biggest bonus like +100% :science: (look at the chinese they copy every technology from others)

SO my proposal

+10% - right of passage
+ 50% - open borders
+ 100% - free trade agreement

+ your espionage modifier

Why can't the AI do the same? And why does tech trading work in normal civ iv bts?

It does. Especially if it's a tech that it already Wants, like the techs shown in the Foreign Advisor screens.
