Should I disable tech trading or not?

.... and free trade agreement should give biggest bonus like +100% :science: (look at the chinese they copy every technology from others)
I do not see the chinese way of copying every technology as free trade agreement.
I'd rather categorize it as industrial spionage.

which is much easy with free trade. Try to sale something that is technology advanced to chinese... They will buy it from you only once. Then they will break it to the parts. Copy used tech and will start produce it themself.

While I think the tech-trading discussion is important, I think the main focus should be to make the AI tech better in the first place. As stated in a thread for beginners, one of the best ways to start a game is to build almost only buildings like +food, +hammers and +beakers (except the occasional defensive unit, hunter, and a few gatherers), and beeline through the tech tree accordingly to key tech such as for example Hard Hammer Percussion (?) (Stone Tools Workshop) and Ritualism (Knowledge Inheritance), and then beeline a religion, or animal riding, or boat building, or just go straight to Sedentary Lifestyle. However, I think the AI focuses too much time and hammers into producing units, that do not really add that much more than protection. If that is the goal, make the Tribal Guardian better at defense, and let the AI do as humans do, build buildings, and hook up resources. I don't know if there is a pattern to AI teching, but they should plan ahead in some way, the way experienced players do. That way, they will be more competitive, and the tech trading discussion will be less important.

@Tower,

Koshling is doing and has been doing that for some time. We caught and just recently fixed for ex. the AI's sudden disinterest(v25) in Founding a religion. As for AI Teching yes that has been worked on too. One small problem though. Every time a set of buildings or techs with buildings get changed the AI has to re evaluate. And starting before the V26 release we've had a Ton of that going on (buildings and building chain updated moved around and Building linked to techs). So every time the AI has to refocus it may change it's tech path decisions.

Plus now there are 2 Major Modmod additions being implemented and those are having their effect on the AI and Players too.

Can you be more generous in details?

Agreed, though I think +100 is too much. In fact I think the DIRECT modifiers to tech rate for a tech our trade-patner know from right of passage, open borders, free trade should be small (possibly even non-existent) BUT it SHOULD modify your effective bonus from espionage ratios. That is - if you are out-espionaging your opponent then that will be even more effective if you have open borders or a free trade agreement (looser border controls implied), but if his espionage out-weighs yours then the extra benefit you get from open borders etc. in that regard will be much smaller.

@Koshling

+1 it will make espionage points more important because now i always ignore that factor.

So this sounds like an improvement to the "Tech Diffusion" mod. Are you planning on doing it as such? If so it could be given to the community.:)

That does sound like a great idea Koshling. I had a passing thought about something along those lines once but it never developed beyond that point.

Can't do it without DLL support, so I can't really see how to make it modular really.

I see plenty of DLL modcomps in the appropriate forum, they can't be used by 'ordinary' users, but modders can add them to their own mods easily. That is what I think DH was saying.
