The game is coming out in five days and i'm wondering, should I preorder? Is there any benefit in pre-ordering like me getting the game earlier. Also, will that ugly black box be the actual game box art or just the thing that holds the cd?

I think thats about it. So yeah, what do you guys think?

My opinion is that I pre-ordered and have set to be delivered to my house so that I do not have to fight over the last game in the store when this game sells out immediately. But that is MY opinion.

Actaully thinking about it more, I have one more question. Will it be on DVD if I preorder it because... I don't have a dvd drive.

You don't indicate your country of residence, so I think you might benefit from this thread that tries to list all web shops that allow you to pre-order in various countries around the world.

As to the use of pre-ordering, as Rayanth explains in this thread there are several reasons for pre-ordering. One of them is that you may get it delivered to home instead of having to go get it. Another is that shops get a good indication of the number of items they need to stock. If you pre-order, even if you go to the shop, you'll know that you get it, and that it isn't sold out by the time you visit the store. So yes, you may well get it earlier if you pre-order. Then of course for Civ4 there is the fact that you have the option of getting the pre-order version with some goodies that may or may not interest you.

The jury is still out, but the most persistent rumour is that the US pre-order version will be delivered on CD (and thus most likely also the regular edition). The European version is DVD. But by lack of an official statement :wallbash: even after the game went gold, it's speculation.

i live in france (unfortunately, i hate it). but im not gonna pre order because it france its coming out on the 3rd. usually i would pre order but im going on vacation, so it just maked me realize thats its gonna take as much time to just buy it at a shop (score games) it might be 10 euros more but im really eager for this one.

Yes you will get more for your money

The primary advantage to preordering is to guarantee the store won't be sold out, and of course you get the preorder edition if you preorder =) This edition has the leather case, soundtrack, and all sorts of goodies, for exactly the same price.

The real question is: why NOT preorder?

Ok, I've decided to preorder then. Just onre more thing:

I was reading your thread and you said that if I preorder too late, I might not get it when it first comes out on shelves. My question is, is it too late to order it tonight?

Not only did I preorder from EBgames (I have one less than a mile from my house!!!!) but I paid the entire balance... all I have to do is drive a half mile to EB and pick up CIV on the 26th!!!

pre-order is a must!! home deliver if u can. I ordered through amazon 2 weeks ago. The only down side is even with one day delivery I won't get it the actual day it is released. BUT... I also won't have to worry if it will be sold out at the store or have to wait in line!! Plus u get the "special" pre-order version with a bunch of extras! I like being "special".

Tonigh tyou should be fine... Monday is calling it close, tuesday is pushing it.

Ok. Thanks for all the help guys, I appreciate it.

Eh oh.. I just cancelled my pre-order from ebgames.com because it was gonna ship all the way from the U.S. warehouse to here(canada) and said it would take 3-5 days shipping. So I'm planning on going to a local EB tommorow and pre-ordering in person, so I can pick it up on the 26th, right? But now i'm worried that they'll run out as you said! :S.

I don't preorder and I've never had a problem getting PC games I want on release day, no matter how hot the game. Maybe I'm just lucky. :goodjob:

It's also convenient for me since there's a huge volume of PC game selling retailers and shops right next to my work and/or between my work and home.

<shrug>

Whatever works.

Per-ordering gives a spiral bound rule book.

I just got back from a local canadian EBgames and I gotta tell you that your time is running out. I cancelled my online pre-order and tried to get a local pre-order, cause I really want a collectors edition! And they said they got an e-mail saying that they arn't allowed to accept anymore pre-orders for the colelctors edition. The guy was a fellow Civver and I asked him to help me out and I told him my scenario and he said he'd try, but the SKU looks like it's probably just a normal copy. So i'm sorry to say that it looks like your time is running out for Pre-orders. :S
