We're moving next weekend and need to rent a truck.

Budget and Uhaul both have comparable 24-26' trucks available at about the same price.

Does anyone have any experience that may help me decide which truck to rent?

Rent both and enter them both in a no rules death race against your spouse/roommate/SO to find out which one is best.

Let's get ready to make your friend with the big pickup truck GRUMBLLLLLLLE!

The insurance on these truck rentals is pretty inexpensive...

I only have experience with uHaul, and, well... It depends on the location you get the truck from. I've seen locations which rent out uHaul trucks and they are absolute crap, but then there are locations where the trucks are in pretty good condition. Be sure to investigate the truck before you rent and see if there are any discounts available (doubtful, but who knows).

Last truck I rented was Uhaul. Some of the Uhaul trucks are a little older, some a lot older, but generally they are good enough. Be very careful of the condition you return them in. And if you are at all concerned, get the insurance. The truck I rented was a perfectly good truck, and had no trouble with it. One annoyance was that they give it to you with 7/8 of a tank, and expect it back the same. But that's hard to measure, so they're gypping you on the gas some. Bring your digital camera, and document the condition of the truck if there's anything notably damaged on it when you pick it up. Make sure the rental office has a note of anything like that before you drive off the lot.

Other than the miscellenous fees being a whole lot larger of a part of the total price than you would probably expect, I had no problems with my experience. Although the time periods for the rentals can be pretty tight.

That applies to all car rentals and it's a pain. Sometimes you'll luck out and it's a full tank but often it's at weird levels. UHaul is decent from my limited experience.

You should probably rent one that is parked. A moving one may be hard to flag down.

Best luck on your move!

Whatever is cheaper.

Have you compared it to zipcar or a car sharing service? They have huge moving vans you can rent for a few hours.
