Should the penalty of murder be lessened depending on the victim?

Should the penalty of murder always be the same?

Murder,to me,should be broad in a sense that whatever act that constitute as being murderous should be in consequence be life imprisonment for the individual that committed it,except some circumstances as self-defense.Of course it is hard for to argue for pro-choice because if taking this broad sense of what constitute of the meaning of murder is fallacious if you want to say that a fetus is attacking me and i have no choice but to kill it for self-defense.

Valid self-defence isn't murder.

You get to keep your money. :)

My mistake. When Narz posted his approval of killing rapists, I thought he meant 'one who has raped' not 'one who is raping'. Obviously I would not support punishing someone who killed in self-defense.

Black on White crime is a serious scourge in America.
So a black man who kills a white man should be punished more or visa versa?

I imagine your view would change if it was your grandparent murdered.

I would be distraught i suppose. But i dont visit them that often so i really wouldnt seek vengence or anything.

My opinion stands.

So a black man who kills a white man should be punished more

Yes. Black people need to respect whites.

I'm mocking the idea that old people aren't worth as much as young people

But youthful victims haven't contributed a dime to our society, whereas the aged have theoretically contributed taxes and productivity throughout their lifetimes. Beyond that, they vote (in huge numbers), and babies don't, so introducing ageism to murder penalties would likely bring about the exact opposite effect you would intend, where killing the aged would carry a far higher penalty than killing infants.

I was going to make a sarcastic point here about how we should just make the penalty directly proportional to the net worth of the victim, in order to point out the absurdity of treating crimes differently based on arbitrarily chosen criteria regarding the victims, but somehow I think the post above me already makes that point better than I could have hoped to. ;)

Edit: Phew; augurey, you actually had me concerned for a second there - it can be tough to discern sarcasm through postings. Agreed though - I was about to do the same thing from a rich/poor perspective.

All punishments for a certain offense should be right around the same.

The 4th option is a bit misleading - I don't believe that the penalty should depend on age, however, I don't believe that killing an unborn fetus should be murder at all (though it could still be illegal, if done without consent of the mother).

The only thing that should matter is the race of the victim and the race of the attacker.

Yes, we should be more lenient on people who kill those of certain races.

*sarchasm, and thought provoking.
