I agree with Bast.
 
That's the origin of the language. Calling it "Spanish" implies the other Spanish languages are less Spanish, calling it Castillian reminds people that it's only a huge language because of Castillian imperialism (though that doesn't explain why it came to dominate Murcia which was settled by both Catalans and Castillians).
 
But what about all the other American languages?
 
That's like calling German "European" because there's more of them.
 
When I think of American, I do not think of any place besides USA, so I would say that it should not be changed. Neither should English be changed. I just can't be bothered to go to the other thread.
 
So what should we rename "English", given that most English-speaking people live outside of England?

And if I am not mistaken, Castellano can often used an alternate name for Spanish.
