Some users have stated that they or others are, or may be, offended by user names with religious connotations.

Should users be allowed to have user names with religious connotations.

I deliberately did not include a "fence-sitting" or"don't-care" option.

Yes or No people, Yes or No.......

Just to clear up one misconception, banned refers to the use of these names, not banning the user.

Uless it is an offensive name the condems or says that religon is right than I see no reason to ban them.
ie.
"I am your God"(:D) - no offensive
"I killed your God" - very possibly offensive

I know the rules say that we don't have the right to free speech on the forums, but isn't banning a name with "God" in it going a little too far? IMHO as long as it's not insulting anyone, people should be allowed to have religious user names.

Why ban, when TF can change nicknames :)

And tedg, in your sig, there is not supposed to be a comma between nation and under ;)

OK, it's fixed. The point is what's supposed to be in there, not what's not supposed to be in there.:D

EDIT: Changed my signature to something non-controversial.

The point is what was added by congress and infringes on the rights of others....but we spam. :p

I don't feel people with nicks suck as your, thread starter, should be banned, I just feel foolish typing it out.

As an aside, I have asked for my username to be changed. Not because of any pressure, or sense of obligation. But because it is mouthful to type (if that makes sense).

Oh no...to what? #2God?

I don't see why a name should be banned regardless of content. Unless it's done to delibarately provoke a negative response.

Myself I was contemplating using the nic Leibstandarte - but I refraimed from it. As it would of generated negative feedback from others on the board. And I don't have the energy to deal with the 'upset feelings' of others.

If you dont like your name you can get Tf to change it (incidentally we already have a GOD whos sig is I AM GOD) but I certainly dont have a problem with user names with religious connections and can't think who on this forum would

Graeme, thanks for that, but I already knew how to go about getting my name changed.

I like my username, however, I have been informed that some others don't.

So, in the great Australian tradition of reconciliation.........

There's a guy at Apolyton with a Nazi avatar and what I think is a Nazi name. That's much more offensive to me than stuff like this. Do people who have usernames that involve God have some kind of inferiority complex? :D

Not at all. As a somewhat lapsed Christian, I enjoy having God weigh in on debates in these forums. It provides myself and other CFC beleivers with a moral compass in moments of great confusion.

The only time it should be banned if they use the name to be annoying, like continually saying that they know everything and that no one should argue with them, etc.

Nothing wrong with it, but it is a red flag in my mind as to the poster's personality, using knicknames like "God" shows me intense insecurity, and an abnormal desire for attention.

Of course, that's just my personal opinion.
