In my Civ V games Siam seems always going to war with me and others, and the leader Ramamaphang is acting cocky and like some spoiled bully.. has it been like this in your games or does the Siam a.i. personality just hate my playing style?

I've been to Siam(Thailand) several times and I could say that they are the most peaceful and big-hearted people I've met from all nations.. before Civ V was released I espected them to be a sort of Gandhi-like peaceful nation.. :D

I think all ai can go on rampage.. maybe some more likely than others. In my games the superpowers were: Iroquois, Russia, Greece and Siam

I've had pretty militant Siam most games too. Like you I expected another Ghandi but, oh well.

This is because Firaxis uses the face of the corrupt and cocky politician who is suspected to be behind terrorist attacks in Thailand for the past 3-4 years!

As soon as Firaxis allows us the edit .gr2 .dds files, I will correct his face.. Yes! ..bring back the leader: King Ramkhamhaeng the great, immediately.

Sorry for using this site as my political expression, However, Firaxis should have more research on Thai history and culture before they come up with the wrong face!

Please imagine putting Osama Bin Laden's face on the Statue of Liberty and asks American victims of 9/11; how they like it!

Statue of Liberty with a beard ?
BTW I read somewhere that FBI admitted recently that they don't have a very solid proof that Bin Laden was responsible for 9/11. :mischief:

Leaving aside the politics, I feel Ramkamhang's face looks fairly similar to statues of him, only far more jowly. Either way, that's not remotely relevant to in-game.

First game with him, he was crushed and eliminated before I met him, so no. However, last game, he did gain a lot of territory and acted aggressively. It started as a coincidence, Babylon declared war on him and they were in a state of almost constant war. Babylon had also declared war on me and I crushed him, so, soon after, Siam was able to take advantage and conquer Babylon's territory. I think that went to his head, so, afterward, he started acting like a bully and conquering other people.

My guess is Siam is pegged in the middle as far as peacefulness goes, so the fudge factor sometimes pushes him to the aggressive side. Also, if any AI leader sees a chance of winning the game militarily, they go on the aggressive and attack other Civs. So sometimes fate pushes them into the warmonger side.

well he has been pretty hardcore in a few of my games too, but I've had quite a few of the civs go on the war path. So far this behavior does not seem to be related to their persona's at all. The game I finished last weekend had Gandhi kicking the crap out of everyone. I was going for a cultural victory but had to change my strategy because he had around 40 cities and quite a large military. He also kept sending me messages complaining about my weak military, close borders (his damn fault) and such, so as soon as I got infantry, artillary and tanks I stomped the yard with him :)

I don't know much about Soam's history, but while modern day Thailand is peacefull, was Ramkhamheang's Siam?that could be the difference there.

gameplaywise, his War Elephants give him a massive advantage, and he uses it suprisingly well when he gets the chance.

I've had him as a peaceful neighbor building Wonders (which I took :D ) and I've had him as an Elephant-zerging aggressor. My general take on him is that he's a peaceful guy but you can't really trust that. ;)

Even Ghandi also can be bad ass warmongering if the circumstance is right.

But my last game with Germany, I suffered no war at all even surround by notorious Monty, Warshington, and Haiwata.

In my game, Siam attacked me to gain my land. When I beat his ass, I guarded my borders and I kept getting HOSTILE messages for him. Like... the some leaders like to pick on little nations... but, later in the game he went to war vs. America and beat them down when they were practically nothing and stole their land riding on the British backs. His nation was pretty good size after that and I still was getting the same HOSTILE messages as before. LOL. I thought that maybe it was because I had my armies to close to his borders but when I retreated them a couple of hexes I still got the same response. Maybe it was the fact that I never trusted him again after the first war? I think the AI could use a little polishing.
