When can we have a Regent game? We have had a few in the past and even a warlord game (felt like monarch though).

I was just wondering if there would ever be a Sid  gotm.
I wonder how many could win it? ;)

a sid cotm would be fun - who survives longest! ;)

A Sid game is considered too much of a lottery. If an AI civ decides to attack you early you'll lose.

Well, as we saw in cotm14 that is also true for emperor and surely it true for deity. People here tend to go for risky starts to get a possibly higher score. Anyway you guys will be making the map: so you can put us on an isolated island or peninsula or make the distance between civs high, or whatever. This would be fun for me to try, cause i still haven't won an epic game on sid, but i fill that i can do it if i concentrate, but since i hardly find time for normal games now, a sid gotm might be the only chance. After all i'm a bit tired of crushing regent/monarch/emperor AIs and i hardly notice any difference in difficulty in the past XOTMs (except for the deity ones, especially gtom43 - a very fun game).

Sid Pangaea COTM proposed. Who is with me?

You'll have to wait for the boss to get back from vacation next week for that proposal to get any air time. I'm not qualified to judge. All I know is we don't even have Jason scoring factors worked out for Sid because we didn't anticipate running any Sid games.

Well, I've just lost the COTM. I will post details as soon as the first spoiler is open.

I am, i think i will then play one again :)

On the other hand, Sid archipel would be better so that people won't need to lose to an early AI attack.

If you started the game (much less finished it), you should not be posting in this thread.

Yeah, i'll play then even if i get civ4 by that time ;) Agree that archi might be a good compromise that will let many people who are not so confident to survive or even pull of a diplomatic or space win.

Why not run a Quick Game of some sort?
Make a proposal to Theoden, in the Quick Games sub-forum?

Well, I still have yet to win one on Demigod/PTW Diety, but this seems like it's more appropriate for that than for a regular GOTM. Although maybe the next Demigod COTM could have the predator class as Sid-Equivalant.

I agree with the original description by AlanH that sid is largely a lottery. However:
1. If it's tried just once, that would still reflect this fact.
2. Those who fear for their GPR position can compensate bad luck with the ptw/vanilla GOTM.
3. It would be the biggest variation yet for the players on the top half - trying to survive, although I don't deny that conquest class players are unlikely to succeed.

Uh, not quite.
It is too much a lottery. But for a completely different reason IMHO.
A Sid game is lost if a remote AI reaches about 40% land by swallowing the weaklings before you have Replacable Parts. Even if you hold another 55%. Nothing you could do about it.
But the one problem I have with xotMs are the unnaturally good starts we get. This always favors Farmer Gambit strategies - and those do not work on Sid (Pelagos aside).

I played nothing but Sid for the last months, and the Ancient Age is clearly the easiest one with the correct Civ. Forget about expansion - build nothing but Archers and a few Spears. Don't even think about founding a second city before killing some AI Settlers and 1-2 cities.

I for one would love a Sid Pangea game.

I agree with you here, GOTMs usually get an above average start, but surely it is not always the case, actually recent GOTMs (COTM16 and especially GOTM46) strongly favoured the early rush approach as human got very poor starts, but closest AIs got nice fertile land.

As for the lottery stuff i'm sure that map designers can take care of that and make such a map on which none of the above is likely to happen.

Just a thought...

You could ask one of the HoF'ers permission to use one of their starts. This way we know that it is possible to win on the map. For example Gyaathar has a std iro game that he completed diplo in 960ad or so.

Well then, if you get 55% of the territory in a real sid game, I suspect you will be pretty high in the scoreboard - despite this "luck" factor. (And how about non-stop bombardment to increase that already high score, even if you can't postpone 100K or spaceship loss 'till 2050 AD?)

I fully support the idea, because
1. It is more interesting to play when you don't know whether you'll win, so you have to think about every move
2. No-brainer decisions such as Republic slingshot won't work and keeping up in tech won't be an easy task
3. AIs are more agressive and you should also think about defense
4. It is important to keep your reputation clean, otherwise you won't be able to win on your own
5. All-out warmongering won't be so effective
