Sid>Spock

If only Rod Serling had still been alive...

I was going to suggest different voices for each type of tech, but I guess SMAC beat me to it. That would have been great!

"You're traveling through another dimension... a dimension not only of sight and of sound, but of mind... your next stop, the quantum zone!"

-- Physics tech quote

How about the Crazy Warehouse Guy doing the voiceovers?

You have researched Masonry! That's right! Masonry! Masonry has been researched! It's absolutely INSANE! The path to Monotheism has been MASSIVELY REDUCED!!
It's only one technology away! That's right! One technology! One technology! This number is never to be repeated again! One technology!
See this Great Wall Wonder option? If you have enough turns, it's yours!
The Pyramids can also be built and they should be built by midnight tonight or your options of switching Government Civics to something better will be MASSIVELY REDUCED!!

Or the Surprise Spruiker?

That's right shoppers! Step right up and this amazing deal on Civil Service! Get on your workers, get on your farms and spread the irrigation around! You Axeman over there, wouldn't you rather be a Maceman?
Civil Service is a worthy investment now and for all great bargains, build more farms in places you could not before! It's a massive improvement over the unfarmable land! For a great amount of beakers today, a greater amount of Macemen tomorrow! -speaker gets taken away by security-

That was SID doing that voice? I never even realized it. I heard it and the only thing I was thinking was: Who's the untalented dork trying to step into Nimoy's shoes on the cheap?

Now that I know it's Sid... I... don't feel any worse about that comment. He should stick to games and never, ever, ever, EVER do voice-overs again.

Actually... they should hire George Carlin to do the voice-overs. Even the most serious quote would be a giggle provoker.

I never even knew that Spock(!) was the voice of vanilla CIV4...
Not a fan.
Although I noticed the new voice, I didn't find it bad, nor knew it was Sid's voice!

:mischief:

Some sell, some buy, and only we know why! The wrapper's more important than the price! Important decisions are made each day, much too important for the plain folk to make. They're always in a bind, so we're here to help them make up their mind!

That's what I thought of when I read your post.

All the quotes should clearly be done by Homer Simpson..

"Politimacal power blows out of a barrel of beer... mmm... beer."

"Beep... beep.. beep.. um.. baa.. d'oh!"

"It is entirely seemly for a young man to lie.. what is this? Is this going to lead to something gay? IS IT?"

"I must send the boy to fight so I don't have to!"

"I cannot live without beer and tv"

"Wha? Art for the sake of truth... ah.. I'm not reading this crap."

Sorry for reviving this old topic but I just can't think how interesting it would be if that movie trailer guy did the quotes for Civ 4. I think his name is Bill Fontaine.

There isn't even a question - Spock owns all your base.

Sid is balls out great at game concepts, but other than the novelty of it BEING Sid, he sorta sucks at it. Hey, we all can't be great.

Makes you wonder - now that they've set the bar high with Nimoy on Civ 4, who is gonna do Civ 5? James Earl Jones would rock the effin house, but then Patrick Stewart would also be good. Hell, even someone like Richard Attenborough, or hell even his fellow JP alum Jeff Goldblum, would be "cool" choices instantly.

I think that once you go Nimoy, you can't go back to "some dude" for the next versions...

I say homer too

"You have discovered Education: I am so smart, I am so smart S-M-R-T I mean S-M-A-R-R-T"

You guys are right though, Spock is better than Sid, it was just the novelty that made me like it...

Always hated the voice of the guy who did the quotes without knowing who it was (the fact that the quotes are mutilated/taken out of their context is also annoying...). I much prefer Sid.

That's right shoppers! Mass Media has been researched! It's a huge, huge, huge sale of United Nations! usage. All sorts of ranges of options can be used. Slavery? Gone!
Police State? Gone!
ICBMs? I wish they were gone!
For a lot of hammers today, for a Diplomatic Victory tomorrow!

The boss has gone crazy and has gone and researched fission! This means Uranium can have even more uses! It's absolutely insane. The Manhattan Project has been directly imported to your civilization!
ICBMs can be built with this wonder! With them, your enemies will be all MASSIVELY REDUCED (down to radioactive waste!)
You can also build tactical nukes! They have a range of 5 squares! That's right! 5 squares! 5 Squares! This number is never to be repeated again, 5 squares!
You can import them directly onto a submarine or missile cruiser and make them walk straight out the door on the enemy! That Montezuma will never know what hit him, because he's ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!

Am I the only person who thought Nimoy was very disappointing given the hype that surrounded the games release? I find him very dry and dull for the most part. There's a few quotes that he clearly likes himself, but the rest of it is nothing more than actor reading lines off a sheet.

They should have got back the SMAC crowd, who were truly excellent.\

"I don't know but I've been told!
Deirdre's got a network node!"

Don LaFontaine is who I think you're thinking of. He also did that Geico commercial spoof: "In a world where both our cars were totally underwater........!"
