Hey all,

I'm struggling to find something that will explain how I can include a simple background and leader image into modbuddy for use.

I have the dds images: they are the right size and I have imported them into my mod... now what?
I can't find anywhere that explains what artdefs do or how to make them.

Can anybody help?

You have to look into other mods. You have to add leaders and fallback artdef files. You have to create textures out of your dds files in asset manager, then index them in xlp files. You have also add background.dds to your data.

Assuming you are able to produce your own leader and background arts... check this video out.
it is old, but should give you the basics to help you get there.

For what it's worth, I am going to update my template to include a beginner's walkthrough for basic art inclusion - it's just a case of finding the time to do it.

In the interim, there's a scattering of resources available that show the different ways it can be done, in isolation. I arrived at my current knowledge through a combination of scouring YouTube, this forum and asking questions - my view is that it is a fairly complex process considering the simplicity of what it intends to achieve.

The key steps (IMO) that need documenting in one place are how to go from 'nothing' through to having the right files that are part of a ModBuddy project. This is what I'll try and achieve in version 2.0 of my template. One of the challenges for me when creating the template was the need to have this include art so it all 'worked' - I am entirely aware that it does not serve to explain how the art got there. Just comes down to time to create/share that guide I'm afraid.
