Simple question about hell terrain

Copied this from the manual:

Started with the birth of Hyborem and the Infernal civilization, Hell Terrain will spread as allowed by the Armageddon Counter (AC). It will always spread into Ashen Veil lands, but if the AC is over 25 it will also spread into unowned lands. If the AC is over 50 it can spread into other Evil lands and if it is over 75 it can spread into Neutral lands. It can never spread into the lands of Good players.

Hell Terrain is less productive than most land and the bonus types are often replaced with Hell versions. For example Cows or Horses on a normal terrain type will be converted to Nightmares if the tile switches to Hell Terrain.

I've noticed it spreads into evil lands as early as 25 if Hyborem is spawned nearby. It just spreads from his lands.

Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for. Only thing I hate about going for Sacrifice the weak as Calbim, but i suppose there has to be a downside. I spent almost 300 turns with adepts everywhere purifying the lands to prevent my resources from being transformed.

If you're the Calabim, I'm pretty sure you're already evil. Unless you were playing as Decius.

Yea the problem isnt good or evil for me. In fact Id much rather be evil since undercoucil is better imo. I just dont like hell terrain changing all my resources but I guess that's the price for using AV.

If you spawn some hell terrain from popping a lair, or using the wonder spell, it will also spread from there if the AC is high enough (without Hyborem having spawn).

Can hell terrain cross water?

I believe so.
