Skaven development thread

that a good idea. the first Skaven worker should be the "slave rat", maybe working at 75% like the amazon slave (and able to be sacrificed too? :hmm:) then upgrades to the Skaven worker, which would work at the regular rate or maybe 125% (and can't be sacrificed)

now there are only three units needed to be made: giant rat, jezzail team and the vermin lord as the Skaven "dragon" equivalent, then the skaven would be complete.

a plague censer bearer wouldn't be bad either. kinda like your NG fanatic, aaglo... :mischief:

my bilge rat idea is still on orthanc's to-do list too

That's great, Odin. I completely forgot that there can be different workers in different eras.

@LMR!&Axeboy
oh crap
well, I discussed yesterday about these issues:
- the giant rat is almost essential - it would be a non-resource requiring attacker in the first era
- if (more like when) I do the giant rat, it would be daft not to convert it into that ridiculous bilge-rat (propably without a rider, but with that shaky platform attached to it's back
- I also thought about making that plague censer bearer, but not based on the goblin fanatic - that would come out of hobbit flailman ;)
- I know I once mentioned the warplock jezzail. Somehow that thing just doesn't inspire me at all. I mean, it's just one of those ugly skaven with a stick and an ugly shield? What is that gun anyway? A mini-version of the warp-lightning cannon or what?
- mrtn also requested me to do the vermin lord.

:hmm:
does anybody want to be me for a while... :hmm:

;) :p

I have a couple of questions:
- does this look like a rat?
- why not?
- should there be civ-colour in this? I had an idea of painting the symbol of the horned rat to the back of this thing, but I think it would not be good. How about a collar or bands around it's feet/shins?

I'm quite sure that you can't sacrifice units with a defense value, and the skaven worker needs that, to not turn into a bearded human when captured.

Aaglo, that look just like a rat!
Though not precisely as a Giant Rat, those are more doglike, more shoulders, less ass. And they sometimes seem to have spikes along the spine.

But it's good enough, of course. :) Especially if you make it snarl so it's not so cute. ;)

Originally, the rat was a bit higher (it looked a lot like those temple/jade dogs), but I made it lower so it looked more like a real rat. But the I too checked the images of these skave giant rats, and noticed that they're nothing like regular rats :)

Here's an updated version: it's feet are a bit longer, and I've added spikes to the back and civ-coloured bands to the legs ;)

Actually you can sacrifice units with a defence value. You can sacrifice any unit as long as it's tagged Sacrifice under Special Actions in the unit editor, and it's of a foreign nationality, e.g. an enslaved unit or a unit with pop cost (e.g. worker) built in a city with only foreign citizens (newly conquered or something).

so you aren't able to sacrifice your own workers, even if they have the "sacrifice" flag checked?

@aaglo: i think there are a few too many spikes on its back. i would get rid of the two closest to its head. otherwise great :)

Edit: again @ aaglo: so you will do the Bilge rat after you finish the giant rat? coz if you are gonna do it, i'll let orthanc know

You know, since I do have Kinboat's Skaven model for Poser, along with two of his musket props (one from the Janissari and one from the Gnoll gunman), I might do the Jezzail team, but the sheild-bearing rat may have a Roman type shield or Kite shield instead of the triangular job that they do in the minis.....
