On the mac version, is there any way to watch the animated battle & coronation when you start up the game? Small pet peave, but it's driving me nuts. thanks.

Do you mean "is there any way NOT to watch ... " as implied by your post title?

If so the answer is Yes. The Civilization4.ini file lives in your ~/Documents/Civilization IV/ folder (or the Warlords equivalent). Open it in TextEdit and find the line:
NoIntroMovie = 0
Change it to
NoIntroMovie = 1
You're done.
* Posters do seem to be increasingly leaving out the negative adverb these days. It tends to alter the sense of the post.

Or just keep hitting ESC until you get to the Main Menu. Alan's method will circumvent the need for this, of course.
