SKNES: Architecture of Aggression

SK, i hate 2 be the complainer, but cud u update the UU post...so I know who has what

Yeah, I've been meaning to do this myself for some time. Will be done tomorrow most likely.

Sorry about that, I was just busy last week and felt the need for a "buffer" update, if that makes sense. I'll write a story about the transition before the next update.

No problem.

Since you asked, I think I prefer the labeled map to listing the colors in the stats. Sure, by this point, I could tell which countries are which without the aid of colors or labels, but it's a lot easier this way and it's not even obstructive or anything.

thanks. Yeah, I figured it might be easier this way - me being partly color blind and all really doesn't help with trying to decipher the colors.

I meant East Coast, I'm just ********.

And due to the fact that the split was NOT as horrible as I imagined, Armenia will continue its power drive to become awesome under its new king, Ashot VI.

End this silliness and allow us to reconcile our differences.

If we hold an immediate vote, with members of both the Armenian Clergy and Byzantine one eligible for Patriarchy, then sure.

OOC: What exactly is it you are asking for?

@SK: How close does the Orthodox Catholic Church align to the Orthodox Church of this time historically? (and the Church today, since I think the Orthodox Church has changed very little theologically)

Ok, that will be fixed tomorrow as well, along with Taman's government.

could you clarify, because this doesn't exist in the game :p
If its the Constantinople church you're asking about, I'd say it's pretty similar to OTL, although perhaps less developed due to it being underground for some time. My estimation is that right now the Byzantine-Armenian schism is sort of like the Sunni-Shia schism in which in the main difference is who leads the church.

Actually, it is the official name of the Church that not even the Church uses. Look it up. Also, I'm 90% positive that I actually did edit to say "Eastern Orthodox Church", so gremlins must have restored it. :p

Also, the doctrines of the Church should still then line up with doctrines of the State Church of the Roman Empire as established during the first Ecumenical council.

I just started this thread for greater religious discussion that will be totally separate from the NES.

I'm asking that non-Byzantines have as much of chance of getting Patriarchy as Byzantines, by vote, which would definitely entail some Church corruption snipping.

Do you understand anything about the operations Orthodox Church? All the Patriarchs lead their respective churches, which are held together in communion, making the church catholic. The Orthodox Church has no central authority. All we ever asked was that you recognize the restored Patriarchate of Constantinople to once again be the Ecumenical Patriarchate. We ask this because the restored Orthodox Church of Constantinople is a direct continuation of the old Orthodox Church of Constantinople, which was the original church. The first Archbishop/Patriarch of Constantinople was the spiritual leader of the underground church in Constantinople when it emerged from hiding after the great Edict of Tolerance issued by Constantine VIII the Enlightened, Roman Emperor and Protector of Sicily.

Perhaps now I should explain that the Patriarch of Constantinople (through whatever method is used, I have no idea what that method is) rises to his position through the Church of Constantinople, just as the Patriarch of Angora does, or the Patriarch of Jerusalem, or of Sicily, or of Alexandria, or even of Armenia did, and we pray still does.

I should also now say that the Imperial government exercises no control over the actions of the Church, which is fully independent. For this reason, we tell you that your request is absurd. For us to direct the actions of the religious body of the Church of Constantinople because could conceivably do so would make us no better then the lot that Jesus cast out of the Temple in Jerusalem. Finally, to accuse the church of corruption is to accuse God of corruption. Are you prepared to face Gods wrath for slandering his name?

One more thing. Who are these Byzantines you speak of? We are Romans, or if you prefer, Greeks. Are you perhaps confusing us with a tribe that we have not yet heard of?

OOC: No worries. As a note for your future NESing, it really helps if you do some research before doing stuff when you're in a position you're unfamiliar with. Personally I knew absolutely nothing about the Orthodox Church until I rejoined this NES and was forced to make arguments for my case from a theological standpoint.

Stats changed, please look at the front page, not the ones after the update.

MusicLord: I know you prefer to be called the Roman Empire, should I change the name to that?

Yes please. :p

Surrender to us, and we will allow you self-governance on your little island. Refuse, and we will not only invade, but salt the lands, and kill every last one of you. You have brought war to Islam, and you will face your punishment.

We laugh at your futile attempt to stop us, the Sword of Islam. Know that Venetian ships are no longer welcome on the Levant.

You destroy our ancestral homeland and call us rebels. You claim we have brought war to Islam when you wage war for greed and power, with religion as an excuse. You refuse to even call us by our proper name. We will never surrender to those like you, who ruthlessly slaughter our people and treat us with indignity. We will resist you until the end.

Sorry, your messenger was speaking in hysterics, we hope. For the sake of your people, it is probably best that we crush you, like a horse that needs to be killed when it's leg is broken. Don't bother sending any more delusional messengers to us from this point on, as we will have our hands tied building the largest fleet the Red Sea and Indian Ocean have ever seen. Our soldiers will revel in the remains of your civilization. And like Rome to Carthage, your lands will be salted.
